ch 4 - unneeded lies pt.1

" Uzumaki Kushina and Namikaze Minato… that's their name, right?"

The old man turned, his eyes locking into Naruto's blue ones. He's obviously shocked but he decided to try and hide it as much as he can. Shaking his head, he spoke " I don't know where you heard that or who told you that but they're not your parents"

Naruto gained a genuine look of disappointment, he didn't know what he was thinking, but he hoped that the old man would tell him the truth. But it seems that the old man didn't Intend to tell him who his parents were. Just like in the 'anime'.

"I see, so you still chose to tell me lies instead of the truth old man" Naruto said, all his expression genuine and non fake. It seems as if the influence of Navi's memories is loosening its effect on him and giving him the chance to say what he always kept and hidden from others.

Hiruzen's frown deepened when he heard what Naruto said. He doesn't know who told Naruto that but they're going to regret it when he found out.

"Who even told you that nonsense?" Hiruzen asked, his voice having a bit of a force in it. He wants to know who told Naruto about them and make them pay. 'is it one of danzo's? Is this one of his mind games that would make the kid come to him willingly?'

His worries about danzo sinking his claws on Naruto was found unneeded because something he thinks far worse gave Naruto the informations.

Naruto raised his hand and pointed at his temples.

"There's this… person? In my head. They showed me many things, and it's not just about who my parents were." He paused looking the old man straight in the eye. "They even showed me their deaths and… mother's last words to me" referring to Navi's memories.

Hiruzen just stood there with wide eyes, looking absolutely baffled by Naruto's revelation.

"Naruto you shouldn't trust that thing! It's-"he quickly warned, thinking that Naruto made contact with the fox but he didn't finish as Naruto interrupted. " you're not denying it"

He ignored Naruto's words and repeated himself " you shouldn't trust that thing Naruto! It's a deceitful creature that enjoys other's suffering!" Naruto then hit him with a painful question that struck him deeply.

"And who should I trust 'hokage-sama?' you?! The person who lied to me my entire short life?! That person showed me and gave me closure while you fed me lies and you're expecting me to not trust them?" He asked angrily but he didn't shout, his pain that he's hidden for so long finally making itself known. By now tears already began streaming down his face.

"When were you planning on telling me 'Hokage-sama'? One year? Two years? Maybe ten?! Are you even planning on telling me about them old man!?" With his voice cracking multiple times, he asked crying while looking hiruzen in the face. The pure pain and sorrow in Naruto's voice and his look, making the old man wince but he chose not to say anything.

"If that person didn't show me those things I would still be the same idiotic child that pranks other for attention. Do you know how hard it is, old man? Knowing you had parents but not knowing who they were? Wondering if they left me because they hate me? And yes! Old man! I didn't believe everything you said to me about them. I always knew you were lying, I just.. never had the courage to speak what's on my mind…"

the aged hokage still didn't speak so he continued.

"I started doing pranks and vandalizing for attention,no matter how negative said attention was. i thought that maybe,just maybe if you saw how desperate I am for even a single shred of negative attention, that you'd eventually tell me… but you didn't." He added, looking down at the floor with a sullen expression.

"I acted like a buffoon for nothing. You asked me why I was silently crying on the playground earlier so I'll give you the answer." He stated, his expression turning slightly hardened. Before giving the hokage the answer. " It's because *I* realized that no matter how hard I tried, I wouldn't be able to have the family that I always dreamt. A mother that loves me and a father that would do anything to ensure that I am safe. Even the truth of their deaths and their names wouldn't be told to me." He finished, gritting his teeth in frustration.

He told the old man how he actually felt, he finally let out what he wanted to say and more. He doesn't want anything drastic from the hokage. All he wants is an explanation and an apology for all the lies, he already have a gist of what the old man's answers would be thanks to the knowledge from Navi but he still wants to hear it from the hokage himself.

But alas he supposed you couldn't get everything you want in the world as the old man gave the opposite of what he was expecting.

"What would you want me to do then Naruto? And let me remind you, I'm still the hokage and I won't tolerate you're tone any longer no matter how much I see you as a grandson." Hiruzen asked, obviously trying to stop Naruto from guilt tripping him even more but, it didn't help as Naruto looked up to him perplexed at what's he's trying.

" So that's how it is huh? Old man?. You're going to try and play the victim because lying didn't work out for you? You wouldn't even apologize and accept that you're wrong? Not even an explanation as to why you did it? Please stop it! Apparently you promised mom in her dying moments that you'd take care of me in return for them saving everyone in the village! But you didn't! You left me in an orphanage that eventually kicked me out! If that's what taking care of a child is then I'm baffled! I learned everything on my own from trying to do the laundry, buying groceries, cleaning the apartment that you 'bought' for me, with the money that most likely came from the money that my parents left for me, and even foraging for food in the woods if no one wants to sell me anything! So please stop trying to make it look like I'm the one in the wrong for speaking up to you" He didn't shout any of the words he said, but even with the hushed tone he was using, the anger, loathing and sorrow can be felt by the old man.

" let's just stop this, 'hokage-sama'. I don't want to argue anymore. I can talk all day about the things I wanted to say to you but, let's just stop this." He pleaded, not wanting to prolong this argument that's going absolutely nowhere.

"Just give me whatever my parents left for me and I'll continue to take care of myself and I won't bother you with anything anymore." His voice slowly lost its previous bitter tone and just became a low whisper that was almost inaudible to hiruzen.

"I don't care how little and insignificant they are please just give them to me by tomorrow, I don't care if you don't give me all their money. All I want is the things they left for me"

He turned around to leave the old man on his own while saying. " I know I can't order you to do anything, but please see yourself out hokage-sama."

"If that's what you wish, Naruto. By tomorrow the things your parents left for you would be left in a box on your table by one of my ANBU. I hope someday you'd find it in yourself to forgive me,I only lied for your own safety." He said it with a solemn expression, meaning that he actually believed he did good to Naruto by hiding the truth from him. But Naruto knew otherwise

"Please stop lying hokage-sama. Me knowing who my parents were wouldn't paint an even larger target on me than I already have, being a container of a bijuu with most of the village knowing it. But like I said earlier let's just stop this. Goodbye hokage-sama".

With that, the old man sighed and left. While Naruto walked to his couch and sat before staring into the ceiling and letting his tears flow one last time.

'This would be the last time I will ever cry! I promise it.'
