The witch withdrew the pin from her chest and let out a loud guffaw mocking Azrael, but only quietened when she felt a sharp pain ram through her body.

She said, "I won't die. Death has refused to take me yet."

"You think you deceived me? By creating only a fracture of yourself to lure me to another one of your traps." He interrupted her. "You knew I would pick up the hairpin and stab it at you; it was all a trap, but you did not guess that I had a hidden card."

Azrael smiled; he saw realization wash away the laughter from her face.

She quietened down. "What did you do?"

Azrael turned away and said, "It doesn't matter now. Because neither I nor even you can stop the damage that would happen."

"You—" She pointed her elongated accusing finger towards his back as her body weakened.
