The first time Marcel veers close to one of the tri-slugs, he misjudges the speed at which it travels and the sub becomes coated with the sticky web-like substance.

Marcel brings the submarine to float in the path of the tri-slugs as they propel themselves across the grotto, spewing forth their lines behind them.

Back at the control booth in the submarine bay far below ♜ˢˡⁱᵖᵖᵉʳʸˡⁱᵍʰᵗʰᵉᵃʳᵗᵉᵈ♜, you research ways to help. You come up with various ingenious ways the tri-slug could be caught, if you were to have prepared the submarine precisely for that. It will serve you all in good stead in future missions out into the ocean. But for now, you are forced to watch as Marcel tries, and fails, to capture one.

"I can't do it, President," he says, as the canister closes on some of the seawater. "Let's try to take a more certain sample. Perhaps if you were in my place it would be different, but I just can't catch these things."
