It takes a bit of time, but you have the submarine scan the structures thoroughly so they can be replicated without wasting space in the sample pods. When you're ready, Marcel takes the submarine outwards, exploring more of the upside-down surface of the underside of the ice.
The output screens at the control booth show that the temperature is getting warmer. It's still deathly cold, but the temperature has climbed up a few degrees. You notice the underside of the ice hangs down in uniform clusters that look like an inverted castle with bone-white turrets.
As the submarine drifts closer, you realize it's a vast coral reef.
"Life!" Marcel cries.
"We can't be certain yet," Professor Li warns over the comms. "There could be an inorganic process here that causes an accretion of what looks like calcium."
"Dead or never alive, let's try not to damage the coral too much if we're taking a sample," says Marcel. "We want to keep our presence as low impact as possible. Besides it'll save fuel if we just cut off a small bit as we pass."
"This is what we're down here for," says Professor Li. "Dig in and try and take as much as possible."
