Chapter 4

It has been two weeks since his divorce with Lin but he has not been able to get even a single job despite trying again and again.

"Okay now this is getting ridiculous. This place had a vacancy and I have the qualifications for the job so why do I not get the job?" Wen said as he looked at his phone.

He then decided to call the company to ask them for the reason for their decision.

"Hello, yes I am Chen Wen, I had applied for a job in your company a while back. Could you tell me why I wasn't given the job? I had seen the vacancy and I possess the necessary qualifications for it." Wen said to the one who picked up the call.

"Yes sir, let me just verify this with my boss." The one on the other side said to him.

"Thank you." Wen said as he waited for the reply.

It took a few minutes before the call was picked up as he hastily put the phone to his ear.

"Is this Chen Wen that I'm talking to?" The voice of a man is heard from the phone.

"Yes, I would like to know why I was rejected." Chen Wen asked the man immediately.

"Unfortunately for you Mr. Wen, our company has been asked by Ms. Xiao Lin, to not give you a job here." The man said to him as his eyes widened.

"What why?" Wen asked him shocked.

"We do not care. I have seen your history Chen Wen, you are an unremarkable man without any redeemable qualities. We have no reason to defy Ms. Xiao Len's words. Now that you have your reason, please do not call us again." The man said before he cut the call.

"Hello? Hello?" Wen said but didn't get an answer as he has a face of anger.

"God damnit!" Wen cried out in anger.

'Why would Lin do something like this? Does she want to show me that I'm still not worth anything? I didn't think that she would be like that.' Wen thought to himself as he grit his teeth.

He sat on the ground as he took some time to soak in the words of the man as he remembered all the times he was rejected for a job.

'Is it because of her? She wouldn't be like that would she?' Wen thought to himself in confusion.

He grabbed his head in confusion as he sat on the floor as he scratched his head.

"This is gonna be tough. Maybe I should try other small jobs." Wen said to himself before he looked at his phone as he tried to find any small or part-time jobs that he can get.

And he searched again and again but he was rejected by the people in the area. So, he tried those outside the area which also didn't work. He kept on trying for the next week to get some kind of in and around his area but he wasn't accepted by anyone. Almost all the establishments have been told to not give him any job which left him exhausted as he has been job hunting for almost a month now.

"Maybe if I asked him. He will help me right?" Wen said to himself as he dialed another number.

"Hello, Master Wen?" A man's voice can be heard who seems older than he is.

"You don't have to call me that anymore Bai. I am no longer a part of the Xiao family." Wen said to the man in response.

"And what does Master have to do with me?" Bai asked him ignoring him.

"Well, I need your help. Can you get me a job in the company, I know that it belongs to the Xiao family, but can you give me any kind of job? Please." Wen asked the man in a pleading tone.

"I'm sorry to say this but Ms. Xiao Lin had told me to not give you any job. I'm simply helpless here." Bai said to him in a sorrowful tone.

"I-I see." Wen said as he looked down.

"I'm sorry Master Wen, I wish I could help you and repay you for the help you had given me. But if I were to disobey an order from the lady Xiao Lin, I don't know what will happen to me." Bai said to him as he sighed.

"It's not your fault. Thank you for taking the call." Wen said before he cut the call.

He grit his teeth again before he punched the wall using his right hand in front of him as he winced. He looked at his fist to see that it has become wounded from the punch as blood leaked out of it. He immediately used a band-aid to cover the wounds as he sighed.

He is currently sitting on the floor mulling over the things that have happened in the three weeks since he had divorced with Lin. And his situation isn't ideal as well. His family won't support him as they want him to find a job on his own, and they don't even seem to believe him and say that he is just being lazy and not working hard enough.

He sat in his apartment room as the pressure from the situation was starting to get to him. He knew that sooner or later the money that Xiao Lin and his father had given him will run out. And not to mention the fact that due to the frequent visits to various companies, with some of them being a great distance away from his location it is impacting his financial situation as well.

And not only that, his ex-wife also seems to have some sort of vandetta against him as she has stopped him from getting the job, which he didn't understand one bit.

'Is she trying to show me that I am worthless without her? Or maybe it's that Huan who is giving the order. No, Bai wouldn't say that Lin said it to him if she herself hadn't said it to him.' Wen thought to himself as he mulled over the words.

"I need to get some fresh air." Wen said to himself as he stood up.

He then went out for a stroll as he walked through the streets wanting to get the matter out of his mind as he thought about what to do about his job. During the walk he saw many people going through their daily lives happily as many passed him as he has disgruntled look on his face.

He was continuing his walk when a new restaurant caught his eyes as he looked at it. But he didn't want to use his money when he might need it in the future so he was about to walk away. But then he caught sight of a notice by the restaurant asking to people to help as waiters as his eyes widened.

'T-That could work!' Wen thought to himself as he looked at it.

Since it was a new restaurant there isn't going to be a way that she would be aware of it as it will not come to her attention. He could use this chance to earn some money for himself. And with that thought he went to the restaurant and towards the owners office. He knocked on the door as he got the permission to enter.

"Hello, can I get the job of a waiter here?" Wen asked the owner as he entered the office.
