Chapter 2

Chen Wen, after he had left the Xiao residence was walking through the streets with a despondent look. He then sighed to himself before shaking his head and then took out his phone. He dialled a number and put it to his ear and waited for the call to connect. Soon, the call connected as Wen opened his mouth.

"Hey dad?" Wen said as called him.

"Wen? What is it?" The voice of a man can be heard from the phone.

"I'm coming home now." Wen said to him.

"What? Why?" His father asked him.

"I was asked to divorce with Xiao Lin and well, I'm no longer a part of their household so I'm coming there." Wen said to him without sugarcoating it.

"What?! You can't come back! Do you know what people will think about when you come back! You're a man without any job! Our family will lose its dignity!" His father shouted immediately.

"B-But Dad, I don't..." Wen tried to tell him.

"Don't. To have a son, a grown man, who doesn't have a job of his own is a big disgrace to me as a father and to our family! I will send some money to your account, get a job by then. After that you can return to our house." His father said as he cut the call.

Wen was wide eyed when he heard his father, he then slowly lowered his phone as his grip tightened as he grit his teeth. He then dialled another number as he placed the phone to his ear.

"Wen? What is it?" A girls voice can be heard.

"Can't you at least call me big brother Yan." Wen said to the girl in response.

"Eww no. Do you know how embarrassed I become when I mention you to my friends? Besides, if it's about getting home then don't ask me. I heard your conversation with dad." Yan said to him.

"Please Yan, I just want to come home." Wen said to his sister.

"You know how men without jobs are seen as right. Xiao Lin saved you by marrying you so you had some kind of a worth, but now that you're no longer her husband that has also gone. Now I can't mention you to my friends before becoming more embarrassed." Yan said to him in an annoyed tone.

"Come on Yan, I'm your brother. Help me out." Wen said to her.

"Nope. You're a grown man so you have to find a job. You can't rely on your wife or family and become self-sufficient. So stop being lazy and start working and get at least a decent job so that I won't be embarrassed." Yan said to him before she also cut the call.

"Yan wait!" Wen said but the call was cut anyway.

He grit his teeth in response before he put his mobile in his pocket. He then leaned onto the wall on the side as he held his head. He stayed like that for a few more moments as he cleared his head.

"Dad won't take me back into the family without getting a job. I know him long enough to know that, and my mom is also of the same mind so she will support him. As for Yan, well she has also said the same thing. I've been hearing the same thing for a long time now." Wen said as he sighed.

He then took out his phone and started to look through it.

'At the very least, I need to find an apartment where I can live. After that I need to start finding a job.' Wen thought to himself as he looked through the phone.

Then he found an apartment which was near to the shopping district which was perfect for him. He then went towards the apartment and though it took a while he reached the apartment and then using the money that Lin had given him he bought a room for himself for a month.

"Thanks." Wen said with a smile.

"Whatever. As long as you pay the money I have no problems with you." The landowner said to him as he walked away after giving the key.

Wen sighed to himself before he opened and entered his room. It was a small one, very different from the house he had been living in, but he was fine with it as he didn't want to frivolously use the money that he has and end up with nothing.

"Alright, now to buy some clothes, food for tonight and some necessities." Wen said as he exited his house.

He then went to the shopping district and bought the necessary item's from there as he was satisfied with it. He would sometimes be told to buy groceries for the family so he was used to it. After that he went on his way back to his room where he made his dinner and ate it in silence.

'My whole life was turned upside down in an instant. I can't believe this is happening but the reality is different.' Wen thought to himself as he ate.

After he was done eating he laid down on the floor and opened his phone. Then he started to look for jobs which he might be able to get. But he then got a message on his phone which took his attention as he opened it.

His eyes widened when he saw what the message was as it is practically a marriage invitation to Xiao Lin and Zhang Huan which showed him.

"The marriage is next week?! So soon. Or did they already planned this and only thought about telling me about the divorce today?" Wen said shocked as he got up and looked at the invitation.

His grip on his phone tightened as he grit his teeth. Feeling betrayed at the fact that Lin didn't tell about this to him.

'I know Lin didn't have much of a high opinion of me but I never thought she would be like this. And she even sent me an invitation.' Wen thought to himself as he looked at his phone.

A look of sadness and despair appeared on his face as he looked at the screen before he lowered his arm and placed it on his chest as he looked at the night sky through the window as he has a despondent face.

'I feel like my life just took a turn for the worse.' Wen thought to himself as he looked at the night sky.

He stayed like that for a few minutes before he got back to his senses. He then started to look for jobs on the internet to distract himself from the invitation as he looked through them.

"These jobs are near this place and align with the topics I had studied. I have a good chance at getting a job in at least one of them." Wen said to himself as he applied for one.

After that he went to sleep hoping that he would have some luck in getting the job as he slept on the floor. Tired from all the mental stress that was put on him so suddenly.
