5 Your death shall be entertaining

After looking around for quite a while, Bruce found something that might help him or that could make things even more complicated. It was the fire alarm. By utilizing that, Bruce was pretty sure that the three goblins blocking his path would move away from the entrance. It was impossible to know if they would leave the building or go upstairs. It didn't matter; Bruce just wanted to step outside the building and then complete the first quest. After that, things would become easier with a real weapon in his hand… probably.

Weirdly enough, before Bruce could even accept that gamble, the fire alarm began to ring. For an instant, Bruce thought that he would have a heart attack. He was pretty bad at dealing with surprising things, after all. However, he reacted fast enough and then opened the door of the staircase completely until almost the door touched the walls, and then Bruce hid himself behind it.

"Oh, shit…" Bruce muttered. "I didn't think I would end up in such an exposed situation."

Behind the door, Bruce was pretty well hidden. He was confident that only a handful of people would be able to feel his presence there, but his targets were humans; they were monsters that had probably come from a magical world. They probably had the instincts of a beast but also had other tricks up on their sleeves. In any case, it was too late to think about that. Bruce began to hear the footsteps, and then he held his suitcase firmly and then put his index finger close to the button; if the monsters noticed him, Bruce would use that gas again.

The goblins' footsteps grew louder, and so Bruce's heart began to beat faster. Despite the nerve-wracking tension, Bruce caught himself smiling. He had never thought that he would be an adrenaline junkie; that was a bit troublesome since Bruce liked to think of himself as someone calm and collected. However, it was much better than being a scaredy cat that trembles in fear at the sign of any danger.

The surprises didn't end there; when the footsteps became large and close enough for Bruce to feel their vibrations, they suddenly stopped. A putrid smell began to fill his nostrils; Bruce could also feel the smell of iron… it was blood. For some reason, the creatures stopped right in front of the door. That was something unexpected, but then again, Bruce caught himself grinning from ear to ear. However, the grin disappeared when he heard the footsteps of the monsters crossing the stairs.

"Well, that was boring…" Bruce muttered and then slowly left his hideout. "Wait a minute… why am I disappointed for the monsters not having discovered me?"

That was way too weird… it almost looked like Bruce wanted to have been found and then have a hard fight against the monsters. He knew that he wouldn't be able to fight against two of them at the same time, yet his instincts were telling him that he should fight anyway. It was illogical.

"Whatever…" Bruce muttered and then headed to the entrance of the building.

Only a couple of seconds had passed since the monsters had left, so Bruce made sure to proceed slowly while avoiding stepping on the pools of blood or on the pieces of flash. That being, Bruce made sure not to look at them directly; he only identified those by making use of his peripherical vision. Despite everything, Bruce still was an ordinary person. The sight of blood and the remaining's of humans will only demoralize his spirit, and he can't allow that to happen while there are so many enemies nearby.

Most people would feel pretty anxious when they were about to complete a quest and receive a reward. However, Bruce didn't feel anything like that. He only showed any sign of emotion when his right foot was out of the building, and a short sword suddenly fell right in front of him. Still, at the sight of a sword appearing out of nowhere, Bruce only frowned.

You completed a quest!

You received a new quest!

Form a party!

Reward: Buckler.

"I guess no matter what, I will always have three quests to complete," Bruce said while picking up the short sword and then noticing that it was pretty heavy but well-balanced. "Using this will require… holy shit!"

When Bruce looked around, he finally noticed that the arrival of monsters was a disaster like no other. He was so focused on himself that he didn't even notice the situation in the city. Still, now that he was outside and in the open, Bruce felt as if his eyes, ears, and nose had been finally opened.

Goblins weren't the only monsters that had arrived on the planet; looking at his left and right side, Bruce saw some groups of big ass rats and even some bats that looked like mini-Dracula. All of them were attacking humans. It was hard to find any part of the road that hadn't been painted by the red of blood. The only parts which weren't red were the parts Bruce couldn't quite see, some houses were on fire, so it was only obvious that his vision would be obstructed.

Bruce's mouth was hanging wide open; suddenly, before he could recover from the surprise, a car passed by him at an astonishing speed and almost hit him. The vehicle didn't stop until it hit the next building. Bruce watched all that without blinking, and the same happened when the car suddenly exploded.

The shockwave caused by the explosion finally made Bruce wake up. Gritting his teeth and holding his suitcase and short sword with all his might, Bruce made his choice. He would enjoy that situation as much as possible. Still, he won't do it while monsters destroy his hometown and devour his fellow humans. No, he would enjoy it… he would enjoy slaughtering every single one of the monsters he faces.

Short Sword (Common) (+0)

A common sword that possesses no significant capabilities or effects. Forged by an average blacksmith.

Physical Attack: + 3

Durability: 10/10

Requirements: 5 Strength

No wonder the short sword felt quite heavy on Bruce's hands. It didn't look heavier than three kilograms, but due to its length, Bruce won't have an easy time using it. Still… it would be much better than his combat knife, at least considering their range.

"It has been a while, but it is time to see my parents," Bruce said and then began to head toward North.

Truth be told, Bruce wasn't confident in crossing the city alone with his current strength. Even though he had a few tools on his hands, Bruce wouldn't bet that he would succeed in reaching the northern part of the city as he is. However, that was only a temporary problem. A big ass rat suddenly appeared at the crossroad fifty meters ahead of Bruce; the creature stopped for a second and then immediately turned to face Bruce. Without wasting any time, it also charged toward him. Despite the unnerving appearance of the beast, Bruce grinned from ear to ear.

"Your death shall be entertaining!" Bruce said.
