Something Off

I am 16 years old. I look and act a lot older than I am so according to most people I am 20. Also, if others knew that I am the youngest here I wouldn't be treated with the respect that I am treated with. I am Asaka's right hand person. I am nonbinary and Asaka makes sure that everyone uses the right pronouns with me and when I hear someone uses the wrong pronouns on purpose then I deal with them. I might be young, but I know how to fight. I do online school, which I do in my office so no one knows about it but Asaka, who is considered my guardian by my school. I have worked for Asaka for 4 years. It started out as I just helped around the base with whatever is needed while I got proper training on how to fight. Then I started training others to fight. I am still learning a lot but I am also a very hands on person and a fast learner so no one really knows, which helps with pretending to be 20.

Recently I have noticed that Asaka isn't working as much and something else seems to be on her mind, so when I realized there was a mole in the base, I knew that I could use this to my advantage. I try to call Asaka several times but she doesn't answer, until finally she does.

"Boss. Finally I can get a hold of you. I have kept everyone at the base. I have shorted everyone out into four rooms based on loyalty. They are slightly crowded. I haven't told anyone yet on what's happening, so everyone is in the dark. I have made a list of people that have been trying to leave and why they said that they want to leave for you to look at when you get here." I try to speak fast so she doesn't hang up on me without knowing what I know right now on the question. 

"I will be there soon. Don't let anyone leave and keep a close eye on them."

She hangs up the phone before I can respond so I just wait for her to get to the base. I head into the security room while I wait with my notebook and pen so I can make sure that I can write down anything else that Asaka needs to know.

"Good to see you boss." I hand her the notebook that I have. "Here is everyone that has tried to leave, how they were acting, and what they said why they wanted to leave."

I see her looking through the list of people.

"Bring me Yor. I want to talk to her."

"Yes ma'am."

I leave the room and I get into the room that Yor is in. Yor willingly comes with me but I can see that she is scared. I keep bringing Asaka the people she needs, watches as they get integrated and then put them back and grab someone new. Once we find the mole, Asaka puts the mole in the room, gives me some orders and then leaves. I go to do my school work before going around to do the rest of my work around the base. I wasn't able to talk with Asaka about her new behavior but hopefully next time I can.

When Asaka comes back, I can see she isn't in a good mood. I make sure people get what needs to be done, done as fast as possible and when I see her going into the room with the mole, I get a med team around as I know she isn't going to want him to die this fast. By the time she is done in the room, the information that she wanted is already at her desk.

"Clean him up. Make sure he doesn't die or all of you will and it will be worse." Asaka demands as she walks away from the door as the med team cleans him up.

"Boss, what's on your mind? You have been more upset today than normal." I ask Asaka. This might be the only time I have to ask her about this.

"My office and we can talk." 

When we get into my office, I watch Asaka sit down in my chair. 

"Lock the door."

I lock the door and I sit down in front of her.

"So, what happened?" I need to know what is up with this sudden change.

"So to sum it up, I have these weird feelings for this guy. I haven't felt this way before. It feels like I have been missing a part of me and he is that part. I don't know what is wrong with me but I want him to be mine. When I tried to get close to him, he didn't have the best reaction. So now, I don't know what to do. I am upset at myself for rushing it but at the same time, why can't he see that I want him. I guess I'm not the best with my emotions but I thought my flirting was clear but I guess it wasn't."

I listen the entire time as I nod my head slightly. "Well maybe you are in love, and since you have never felt love, this is all so new to you that you crave it. You crave it so much that it is messing with you. Have you done anything that you normally wouldn't do other than flirt with him?"

"I broke into his apartment, stole a shirt, sprayed my perfume, and I put mini cameras up around his apartment." She says this so casually and I can see that she is slightly proud of herself.

I look at her in shock. How can she be so happy about that? This really isn't like her. "I wasn't expecting you to do that. What do you plan on doing with the employee list that you asked for?"

"Kill some of them."

"Why?" What will that accomplish?

"Then I can help him out. I mean, it seems like it would work. Remove people from his life, promise to keep him safe and then he is mine. Plus, with me he won't have to worry about money or anything really. I will provide for him. I will give him everything that he needs. What else could he want?"

I pause for a second as I think about what she just said. "I'm sorry to ask but do you even know his type?"

"Shit. I didn't think of that." Of course not. Did she even stop for a second to think about what she has been doing? Because it doesn't seem like it.

"Okay. How about we send some women in to find out his type or should we try men?"

"No, he is straight. I will send different women to the bar and see how he reacts to them."

"Okay. If you need me, I will be in the back. I am going to make sure that training is going well."

"Good."

I head out of her office, hoping that she doesn't do anything stupid while I am training.
