Devil

Their faces were only a few inches apart as he answered, "My little girl is quite smart, now isn't she?"

For several seconds, Daphne thought her heart froze as she could not tear her eyes away from him, his blood red eyes boiling as they pierced straight through her, almost as if he was controlling her mind, body, and heart.

Finally, Daphne recovered from her shock as her heart skipped a beat, 'Devil!'

No way. . . There is no way. . . She was sitting right next to a devil?! She had been speaking to a real life devil this whole time?! She fed. . . fed a devil grapes?! Did devils even eat grapes?!

Daphne knew from Maryanne that there were devils here, but she did not expect to ever meet one, especially this soon. She could not fathom how devils were actually real, living, walking, breathing. . . were they breathing?

"De - devil?" She stuttered, afraid to look into those eyes now. In her father's fantasy book, the stories with devils in them, which were rare, always described them as obscure and enigmatic creatures that lured humans and creatures into sin, their souls never to be tested, for they could always be worse.

Daphne definitely did not want to get in contact with a devil, or any evil creature here to be exact. She slowly moved away, but she couldn't get any further into the carriage than she was right now.

"Why is your heart beating so fast?" The devil asked, his eyes glinting in an annoyed sparkle as he cooperatively moved away and back to his original seat.

Daphne did not respond, for she also did not know how to respond. He did not appear to like her being scared of him, but who wouldn't be scared of a devil. And could he hear his heart or something? Or perhaps even control it?

Lucifer could still hear her heart but he brushed it away as he smiled, ignoring the fear and distraught on her face, "Let's go celebrate!"

Celebrate? Daphne's lips twitched. Celebrate what? Her?

---

The carriage moved past the streets for a while longer, and soon enough, the road was no longer bumpy but unusually smooth as they glided through the land.

Daphne was unsure of where they were going, and there were no windows. In a few minutes, the carriage slowly came to a stop and then the door was pulled open from the outside.

"Go ahead," Lucifer said, stretching one of his long hands out as Daphne practically jumped out of the carriage, feeling uncomfortably confined in the tiny space with the devil.

Once she stepped out, she felt a cool breeze blow through her thin dress, chilling her bones as she looked around the place. This looked different from Maryanne's place and from the Brothel and the streets around the Brothel.

It seemed like they were on a huge piece of land that belonged to one person or one family, as behind her, there was a large gate that separated this place from the rest of Healeh.

In front of her, there was an enormous building, roughly the size of twenty of her apartment rooms, and her apartment room was not small. The house was mainly black with some grey on the outside, and there was no greenery in front of the mansion except a large fountain.

Lucifer got out of the carriage as well, straightening his suit as he began walking, not waiting for Daphne as he went for the building. The coachman quickly got onto the carriage and drove it away, and with nowhere else to go, Daphne had to follow Lucifer up the black marble stairs and to the large front door.

Before Lucifer even reached the top step, the two doors were pulled open and an old man wearing a black suit greeted them, bowing down in front of the devil, "Young master Black, follow me."

Lucifer stepped into the house and Daphne looked around the place curiously, following quickly behind him with no one else to rely on, although a devil did not seem like the most reliable creature.

The interior was just as big as it seemed from the outside, and they walked around, walking past several maids with their heads down before reaching a large room.

There were several couches in the middle, a long dining table towards another side and a glass chandelier hanging on the red ceiling above them. The floor was lined with red velvet carpet, the same shade as the ceiling.

Lucifer sat down on the couch in the middle, leaving a small space next to him and looking over at Daphne, his expression telling her to go and sit down next to him.

Daphne wanted to go and sit on the other couch, but maybe it was because she got too scared from the look in his eyes or because he had some magical power to control her, but she unknowingly sat down in the empty space next to him, her arms brushing against his suit.

Was this his house? She wondered as she looked around the extravagant design and decorations. Every corner seemed to be filled with something expensive. No wonder devils were at the top of the food chain here. . . They were filthy rich.

Lucifer watched as she looked around, her eyes darting around the room, and he grinned slightly, looking at the ticking golden watch on his wrist as he grew a little impatient.

This was when the door to the room was swung open and a tall man with red eyes a lighter shade than Lucifer's stomped in, a crooked smile on his face, "Young master Black, didn't expect to have you as a guest today!"
