CHAPTER 4

"Who are you?" Scarlett questioned with her eyes wide in shock.

"Tsk. Humans. They always prove how ungrateful they can be," Arsenio mumbled in dissatisfaction.

Her brows furrowed at his incoherent words. Arsenio sighed quietly and eyed her. He expected to hear a thank you before anything else.

But he is being questioned instead.

"I'm your saviour and you are in my abode," he answered.

Scarlett fell silent as it seems she was taking in his words.

"My saviour," she whispered.

Then memories of the previous day came flooding into her head. She instantly got a headache.

Scarlett groaned in pain as she clutched tightly on her head. The pain was seething and it lasted more than mere seconds before it subsided.

"Where am I?" She inquired as her eyes took in the new, unfamiliar environment. Then she slowly sat up.

"What part of 'I saved you' or 'in my abode' do you not understand?" Arsenio slightly became pissed.

"Well, the part that clears why a supposed dead person is still alive. I may understand," Scarlett refuted.

There were fleeting seconds of silence before she spoke again.

"Or am I in hell? Is this some kind of preamble to the eternal torture that is set for me?"

Arsenio was almost forced to raise a brow at her questions. But his face remained devoid of any expression.

"No. You are very much alive. I happened to save you."

"Oh! So, that dark thing approaching me was you. Well, thank you uhm... What is your name?" She asked as she had no way of addressing him.

"Arsenio," he reluctantly answered.

"Arsenio, thank you for saving me," Scarlett thanked him with a small smile.

"Instead of throwing your life away, make it into something you want," Arsenio's sudden words made her smile drop.

'Humans. They always choose a pathetic end when things suddenly turn unexpectedly bad,' he thought as he made his way out of the room.

Meanwhile, Scarlett had a little frown on her face. It was not just because of the bold words of her cold saviour. Instead, it was because of how right his words were.

As the saying goes, the truth is bitter and it hurts.

She could only let out a resigned sigh. "It looks like even death does not want me either," she mumbled.

Scarlett's eyes watered as the harsh truth of reality hit her. Her parents were gone for life. Never to be seen again.

She folded her legs up and cried into the sheets covering them. Her hands wrapped around her trembling self. Her curled-up figure on the huge bed looked so pitiful and sad.

Arsenio, who was still standing outside the door, let out a sharp sigh.

'What am I still doing here? Why am I feeling this way because of a strange, pathetic human? And why the hell did she calling my name brings this weird feeling to my heart?'

All these questions he has had no answer to. Since he came in contact with this human, his emotions were riled up.

He has been nothing but clueless. And he hated it. To have no answers to his questions.

He always does. The mystery was annoying. Just as he kept thinking, someone came to him. The man dressed in dark colours bowed his head.

"Lord Arsenio, your immediate attention is being requested by master Ryker. He says it is urgent," he delivered the message.

Arsenio did not say a word before he suddenly disappeared into thin air. The messenger was at first shocked.

But when he realized whom he served and the awakening, he sighed a smile.

••••••

As soon as Arsenio appeared in a room that seemed to be the monitor room, he scanned everywhere.

There was a huge screen in the room that had numerous images of different places around the mansion. His eyes scanned them quickly before landing on the one who sought out his presence.

"What's wrong, Ryker?" Arsenio inquired as he went to stand side by side with the brown-haired man.

"We have a visitor, Arsenio," Ryker answered with his eyes still focused on the screen.

He then tapped a few times on the virtual keyboard and one of those mini images zoomed into the full screen.

Arsenio's brows furrowed a bit. On the screen was a man unknown to them. He kept knocking on the closed gates at intervals and his lips were moving.

He seems to be shouting.

"What does he want?"

"I have no idea. He looks... Lost?" Ryker thought out loud. "You want me to check it out?"

"Go ahead."

With permission given, Ryker left the room. Arsenio patiently waited as his eyes never left the screen.

He already had a faint guess of who that man is.

~Outside the mansion~

"Hello! Anyone here? Please, I'm–"

"What brings you here?"

A voice interrupted the man by the gates. He jolted backwards. The man had not seen Ryker walk close to the gates.

"G-Good day, sir. Please, I need information on–"

"Straight down, a left, two rights and straight out. That's your way out of here," Ryker didn't let him finish before throwing directions at him.

Just as he turned away from the gates in an attempt to leave, the man called out to him quickly.

"Please. I'm not here for directions. I know my way out because I memorized my way. I'm not lost," the man corrected.

Ryker tilted his head to the side a bit. "You are not lost? Then what are you doing out here? I have nothing for you?"

"I'm Kayden Davis. I'm looking for a person," he replied.

"Sorry, but no one had passed through here," Ryker shook his head.

"Alright. In case you are here. She is a young woman in her early twenties. Red hair, eyes like mine and she is about this tall," Kayden described whom he was looking for.

"She's my little sister. So, If you see her please call this number," Kayden handed Ryker a piece of paper with a set of numbers and a picture on his phone.

"This is her picture."

Looking at the picture, Ryker was surprised. 'That girl... She's the souvenir Arsenio brought here.'
