36 Dossier

No one learned anything from classes that day, seeing how they were all too focused on the news regarding Xia Heru. The day quickly passed by and soon the final bell rang.

Yan Shu arrived back home along with Song Yun. She grabbed something to eat and left for her part-time job as usual.

On her way to the bus stop, she made a detour through a secluded alleyway flanked by two dilapidated buildings. Other than the occasional homeless person, no one walked through there. There was even an urban legend claiming it to be haunted.

She made her way to the end of the alleyway where she found a little shop which had closed down long ago. Through a broken window, she could see a dusty counter, empty shelves, and movement from what she assumed to be a rat.

Yan Shu ignored all of that and focused on an old post box by the side of the shop. She opened it up, grabbed a bulky satellite phone from inside, and dialed the number she knew by heart. "Not bad. I'll be dropping by tomorrow, so be ready." She then hung up, not waiting for the other side to reply.

Having done what she came to do, Yan Shu placed the phone back in the post box and left.

Kai gritted his teeth in annoyance after she hung up on him. "This little brat," he muttered. "Can't she at least wait for me to reply? She is becoming more and more annoying."

"Who are you talking about?" asked an older man by his side. Kai's father looked like an older version of himself.

"It's that brat. 'Not bad,' not bad my ass. I worked overnight to help her and this is all the thanks I get? You need to have a serious talk with her when she gets here."

"Wait, she's coming?" Kai's father ignored his son's complaints. He couldn't hide his excitement knowing that Yan Shu would return.

"Yeah, tomorrow. She told me to be prepared, which means that she wants to fight me. Let her come, it's high time for me to teach her a lesson."

"Shut up Kai, she is practically your sister. Just do as she told you and get to work. And don't you start throwing a tantrum after she beats you."

"But dad," Kai wanted to complain, but it fell on deaf ears.

Kai's father ignored his sulking son and headed for the kitchen to inform his wife that Yan Shu would come. She immediately got excited and started planning what she would cook the next day.

Kai sighed at the sight of that. 'That brat, even my parents are ignoring me in favor of her,' he thought to himself. 'Just you wait then.' He went to his room, opened the computer, and started coding on it, losing track of time in the process.

"Sent successfully," displayed the prompt on his screen, after which he turned off the computer and lay down on his bed.

Yan Shu boarded the bus, reached the Chen Groups, and worked as usual. She clocked out two hours later and returned home. After a shower and a change of clothes, she then had dinner with Song Yun.

They divided the chores afterward, with Song Yun cleaning the table and Yan Shu washing the dishes.

"Yunyun, I'll be coming home late tomorrow, so no need to wait for me," Yan Shu spoke after they were done.

"Why is that?" her friend asked.

"Tomorrow is the last workday of the month, so the team leader wants us to finish all the piled-up work."

"Oh, okay. Good luck and goodnight."

"Goodnight."

With that, the two went to their beds and fell asleep.

In contrast to Song Yun and Yan Shu, Mrs. Han struggled to fall asleep. All she could think about was what would've happened had that psycho Xia Heru remained near her daughter.

While going through her skin-care routine the previous night, she received an email from an unknown sender. Filled with documents and images, the email was a complete dossier on Xia Heru. It listed all of her crimes, from coercion to assault, and even ordering an attack on a girl from her school.

It also listed what happened to her victims. A girl had her legs broken, while another ended up in a mental hospital. An image showed two parents mourning the loss of their son and a document told the story of a family forced to live on the streets.

Before the email, Mrs. Han was still planning on how to punish Xia Heru for slapping Han Shuya. She abandoned all such notions after reading its contents, wanting nothing more than to send that girl to as far away as possible from her daughter.

Mr. Xia sat on his study while trying to go through the day's documents. But no matter how hard he tried, his mind kept wandering back to the meeting with Mrs. Han. One minute he had been going through his business as usual, and, the next one, he was shaking in his expensive designer shoes.

And the worst of all is that it was all caused by his daughter, with him being none the wiser. If he had focused less on his business and more on his family, then maybe none of this would've happened. Maybe the time had come for him to retire and let his son take over the family business.

Mr. Xia was about to give up on doing any more work for the day when his phone vibrated on top of the desk. He opened it up to find an email with an attached file named "dossier."
