A Girl?

Knock.

Knock.

After two knocks, Assistant Jin entered the ward of his old master with a bag of food in his hand. He placed the bag of food on the nearby coffee table and went directly towards a nearby corner. He came out rolling an over-the-bed table. He opened the bag and took out some cutlery from it first and arranged it on the table, then he started unpacking and serving the food on a plate.

After arranging the food on the dinnerware, he rolled the table beside the bed and presented the food to his master, saying, "Old master, here are some nutritious dishes, especially cooked for you."

Old Master Emerson accepted the food and took a bite of the porridge first. "So bland," he commented right after placing the porridge in his mouth.

Assistant Jin, who was standing on the side, pursed his lips, saying nothing. The meal his old master was having was prepared according to the meal plan created by the top nutritionist, yet his old master called it bland. Only his old master had the capability to do that without batting an eye.

The meal was quiet since Old Master Emerson disliked talking while eating.

After the meal, Old Master Emerson continued reading his book while Assistant Jin started cleaning up the dinnerware and threw the trash away. Usually this would be a nurse's job, but since Old Master Emerson disliked anyone intruding on his privacy, Assistant Jin, who has been on the old master's side for many years serving him, is used to taking over. He was well aware of his old master's likes and dislikes. There was another reason, which was more important: the safety of his old master, and therefore, only trusted people were allowed close to him. This was also the reason for such tight security outside the ward, even though the whole floor had been booked by them.

After Assistant Jin was done cleaning, he stood beside the bed waiting for his old master's order.

Without looking up from his book, Old Master Emerson asked, "What do you think about the accident, Jin?"

Assistant Jin instantly recognized that his old master was inquiring about the accident investigation, so he responded, "I believe it was staged as an accident, old master. We've stopped the police from looking into this matter any further and have taken over the investigation ourselves. The car was in perfect working order when you left. Someone must have tampered with the car at the location of the meeting you attended, according to our investigation, because that was the only location the car stopped at on the way back to the villa. The instigator appeared to have meticulously planned everything ahead of time. The road where the accident occurred was in a remote area where few people went, especially at night. On the day of the accident, all of the cameras near that road were out of commission, so we couldn't see what was happening on the road where the accident happened. However, we learned from the hospital's cameras that a young girl called for ambulances and brought both you and the driver to the hospital."

After hearing about the girl, he finally closed his book and stared into the space in front of him, narrowing his eyes. Then he turned his head to look at Assistant Jin, asking, "A girl?"

Seeing the interested look in his old master's eyes, Assistant Jin replied, "Yes, I've told our men to do a thorough background check on that girl. Since the police already had her name, it shouldn't take much time."

A deep knock came from the door just as he finished his words, followed by the words of a bodyguard informing him that the information about the girl who saved their old master had arrived.

Assistant Jin went to the door and opened the door, took the things from the bodyguard's hand, and closed the door, returning beside the bed. He handed the file of the young girl and a tab directly to his master.

"Here is all the background information about that young girl and the CCTV footage of the hospital at the time she brought you in, old master."

Old Master Emerson accepted the file and started flipping through it.

It was a really thorough report, but he only cared about the important points listed in there. Then, he watched the whole CCTV footage of the girl bringing him and the driver to the hospital in an ambulance all the way till she left the hospital in a fluster.

Seeing his old master silent after reading the report and watching the footage, Assistant Jin decided to lay his observations down. "Old master, I don't think that this girl has any possible link to the individuals who instigated this accident. She brought you all the way to the hospital and also gave the cops her statement, name, and contact information, all of which are authentic. Thankfully, she happened to be a passerby when the accident happened and brought you out of the car on time, saving your life."

The old man on the bed just hummed in return, still deep in thought, staring blankly at the closed file.
