The sudden attack

Shaharrah Chioni's POV.

It was already dark when Maya and I decided to go home from the mini-library of our village.

The surrounding is quiet and there are no lights in the houses which means everyone is asleep. Fortunately, the blue moon is round and serves as a light on the road we are walking. We could only hear our footsteps and so we avoid making any noise.

"Shaharrah." Maya suddenly stopped from walking, "when can we visit the central palace's library?"

I sighed deeply because of what she said.

Since we were young Maya and I love to read books that's why after we pick and sell flowers in town, we go straight to the mini-library of the village. Enchant village has no school, that's why we don't have the chance and privilege to learn. Some elite families that comes from different kingdoms always called us uneducated and plague in Eleftheria. Because Enchant Village is a place of the poor and useless when it comes to magic.

However, the place where we grew up is the most quiet and peaceful of all. There is no chaos and war, far from the chaos and outrageous world. Unlike other races that are always attacked by their opponents. Because in our area there is no vanity and greed for power which causes misunderstanding.

"Are we allowed to visit the central palace?" Maya asked once again.

Suddenly, I dropped the book I was holding so I immediately picked it up and face her.

"Maya, we will never had the chance to enter the palace. We'll be sent home upon stepping on the front gate." I walked and left her where she was standing.

"But Shaharrah!" Maya started to run after me until we suddenly stop.

Suddenly the breeze changed, it's giving us warning that there's an impending danger. The cold breeze of the air gives me shivers as the wind starts to smell like blood.

"Vampires!" Maya and I exclaimed together so I pulled her into the dark hallway between the houses.

"What are they doing here Shaharrah?" Maya whispered nervously.

"Shhh!" I let her hold the book I was holding and peeked at where they are. My eyes widened when I saw what they are doing...they're burning the whole village!

The villagers started to move out from their houses and tried to get away from the Vampires. Others were mercilessly killed by them and sucked their blood. I started to get nervous seeing the situation. I'm also sweating cold because of fear and apprehension that they might see us.

I felt hope that someone would save us when the soldiers arrived.

"Maya! Let's go!" I was stunned when I looked at my sister.

"Shaharrah!" she said as the vampire held her by the neck. Maya's like a toy hanging in the vampire's hand.

"Maya!"

"Let her go!" I shouted but the man just laughed at me.

"What could be an ordinary Enchant can do to save a life?----create flowers?" He said insulting me.

"The weak will always die in agony." the vampire smirked and laughed before dropping Maya's body in front of me. 

I don't know where I got the courage to strangle him but instead of being hurt he just laughed insultingly. The vampire pushed me into the wall and strangled me. This may be the end of me, I'm going to die like my younger sister helplessly. So I just close my eyes hoping my death will not be nefarious.

Then a rain drop fell to my cheeks.

"The Mermaids!" the Vampire whispered and looked at the sky. He then transformed into a bat before flying away like a coward. 

The surrounding became quiet, the shouting, and the sound of weapons subsided. The war stopped. And because of the Mermaids who created rain from the sea, our village was consumed by water leading the fire to disappear from houses to houses and only thick smoke can be seen.

The dark-green-haired people aproach everyone to help and heal their wounds from their healing magic and pure water. And you know what's amazing? Mermaids have tails when they are in water, and feet when they step on land.

A Merman also came to us and tried to save Maya. But he couldn't. Maya is gone. My little sister died in the hand of a Vampire. It happened so fast, the whole village of Enchant was quiet awhile ago then suddenly it exploded and burned. Many homes were burned, gardens was destroyed, and many Enchantas left the world of Eleftheria.

And Maya, who was my only reading companion, is gone. Why did this happen? Why did the vampires suddenly attacked our place? Why does the central palace did nothing to help us? Did the Queen abandoned us?
