Soldier of God, Part One

I returned to the cave and stepped forward to the edge. I could hear the zombies groaning. A complicated expression was visible on my face.

Shouldn't there only be a handful of zombies spread throughout the cave? Why are there at least 3 of them right at the start?

I took a look at my stick and concluded that it will surely break in two before I dealt with the zombies. There shouldn't be a problem if their reaction speed is the same as the second zombie I killed before. After contemplating for a while longer, I told myself to stop being a chicken and took the plunge.

General POV:

Four zombies were in the first room. Three of them are spread throughout the cave, they are on their knees digging through the dirt and the bones. Meanwhile the fourth is in the middle of the cave room. He is the only one of the four who has a sword in his right hand.

"Doooon't stooop. Fiiind it"

Max could be seen peaking from the entrance. What are they looking for? He continued to observe them for some time, until he had seen enough. Then he made his move. His first target was the one in the middle. Max then slowly closed the distance between them, while making sure he doesn't step on any bones. Unfortunately, the zombie decided to take a look around the room and noticed him. Max cursed and accelerated his movements.

Seeing a human charge at him, the zombie alerted the other ones. They stopped digging and turned around to see a fight happening between their leader and a human.

The zombie swung his sword with all his might. Max panicked when he saw the sword coming in his direction and hastily stepped back. Much to his surprise, as the zombie leader attacked, he lost his balance and a tripped over a few bones. Seeing his chance, Max attacked by hitting the zombie on his left shoulder, causing the zombie to completely lose balance and fall. He followed with a second attack on his head, which sadly split his stick in two.

With their leader on the ground, they became angry, and all three charged at the human.

Hearing their groans, Max began sweating heavily and he threw what's left of his stick away trying to grab the sword the zombie leader dropped after his two-hit combo. He picked it up and he started swinging it like a madman at the approaching zombies. Max finally got a real weapon and rejoiced, this made a notable difference while fighting. Now he was able to cut into the flesh of his enemies. The zombie closest to him fell to the ground quickly after 3 swings. Feeling confident at his current strength, Max tried slicing the torso of the second incoming zombie. This failed miserably. His strength insufficient as his sword got stuck almost halfway through. All color disappeared from Maxes face, he desperately tried pull his sword out, however he couldn't do so.

In the meantime, the third zombie managed to bite Max on his left arm.

"Aaaaaaaahh!"

Max screamed in pain. The zombie's teeth dug into his flesh. Enduring the pain, he managed to pull out his sword and proceeded to hack at the zombies head. Still the zombie didn't want to let go, even worse, his teeth went deeper. With tears slowly forming in his eyes his sword finally cut the zombies neck, sadly in the process of chopping the zombies head, he managed to injure his arm even more, because his blade collided with his arm after the head fell down.

"Shit! It hurt so much!"

Max dropped the sword and covered his wound with his right arm. Blood kept flowing out and dropped to the ground. However, he didn't have much time to rest as his screams attracted the other zombies who were in the cave rooms next to this one. Max grit his teeth and got up with shaky knees. Two zombies with swords entered the room, as they saw their kind lying dead on the floor, one of them groaned something incomprehensible and then they both charged at Max. On the other hand, Max retreated a few steps and waited for one of them to attack with the idea to counterattack, however he was unable to do as the second zombie swung his sword when he wanted to attack, so retreated even further.

This play repeated for one more round.

Knowing that to win, he has to do something, retreated even further to give himself some time to think. He looked around and noticed many bones lying on the ground Max picked one up. After the zombies closed the distance with him, he threw the bone with all he got into the face of one zombie, stunning him for a second, giving him the opportunity to strike. What he did. Max rejoiced, it worked.

He immediately put some more distance between them to pick up a new bone. His attack didn't kill the zombie, but it immobilized his upper body. He retried this tactic again and this time he successfully killed the second zombie and went to finish off the first on.

After the battle a huge feeling of weakness overcame Max. He fell on his knees exhausted.

Max POV:

Shit! Why am I so stupid? Why did I think I can split a zombie in half with just one swing of the sword? This shit almost killed me.

Ahhh my arm hurts so much. I took of my jacket to inspect my arm. A Biss wound and a long cut could be seen. A lot of blood is dripping. I took my sword and cut a big piece off my t-shirt and then wrapped it around my arm, this should help to stop the bleeding. At least I hoped so. I tried to move my arm and thankfully no tendons were cut, it just hurts a lot.

I spend some time on the ground recuperating and once I recovered my courage I decided to move on. Of course, I picked up a few large bones to aid me in battle and took one of the 2 swords from the zombies. Furthermore I also looted their corpses for runes, giving me an additional 57 runes.

Thereafter I crossed the two cave rooms and stopped once I heard a voice in the distance. It was a deep humanlike voice.

"Hey, I haven't heard for some time now anything from zombie search team, go send someone to take a look. "

"Yes sir! Hey, you slave! Stop what you are doing and go find out why your friend haven't reported to us."

After I overhead the conversation I moved back and hid behind a wall. The zombie didn't notice me as it entered the room. I used its negligence to stab the zombie in the back nearly killing it. It fell to the floor and before it even realized what happened, I already dealt the finishing blow by beheading it. Then I went to peak at the enemy positions for the next area.

General POV:

A soldier wearing green armor is looking towards the entrance where the zombie slave went in. After waiting for some time, the soldier grabbed his crossbow and moved towards his comrade's location while never leaving the entrance out of his sight.

"Prepare for battle, I think there might be intruders. I want you check the caves and if you encounter enemies, lure them here."

The soldier nodded and took his great shield and spear and proceeded to move towards the cave room entrance.

(Towards a zombie)"Slave, inform Captain Rick that there might be intruders"

After, a zombie could be seen running towards the boss room.

Meanwhile, Max noticed a soldier with a great shield walking in his direction. Cursing he recognized his mistake; he had spent too much time deciding how to continue. Promptly from his point of view the best course of action would be to engage the soldier now.

Max charged at the soldier with his 2 swords.

Once the soldier saw him, he stopped moving and got into his fighting position, hiding behind his shield and ready to stab Max. Contrary to his expectation, Max didn't stop instead started running even faster encircling him, trying to backstop him. Max took inspiration, from the game on how to fight him.

Naturally, he didn't want to leave his back exposed, so he stated rotating in the same direction and occasional trying to stab him. He managed to strike him briefly once, however this left his back more exposed, so he had to drop his shield in order to be able to fend of the incoming strike. Max though had other plans as he threw his sword with his injured left arm. Max endured the pain, and it paid off. His move successfully stunned and slightly injured the soldier, then he swung his sword with the intention to cut his neck. As the soldier was stunned, he couldn't react in time to fend of the sword with his spear. The sword cut his throat, blood flowed out, he dropped his spear and put his hands on his neck trying to stop the bleeding.

However, it was useless. A look of despair was seen on his face, tears formed in his eyes, he gasped for air, but he couldn't breathe, blood also came out of his mouth. He tried to say something but couldn't. The look on his face turned from despair into one of hate as he looked at Max.

Seeing this Max froze up, his emotions were running wild. But he didn't have much time to sort out his feelings as an arrow hit him from the back. Max screamed in pain!

"Ahhhhhh"
