43 I Miss Mom And Dad

Martha screamed in utter shock the moment she entered James' room. Blood was coming out of his ears, and his body appeared slightly bloated. "Esther comes quick! Call 911!" Martha screamed upstairs as she quickly lifted James' body and hurried to her car.

James woke up feeling terrible. 'AI' he called in his mind but received no response. He noticed that he was inside a moving vehicle, and something was on his face. James left eye was not working anymore, and he was not hearing in his left ear. It was like he was paralyzed.

"Wha…la," James said in gibberish. He could not feel his tongue and his lips. Martha, who had been sitting close to him lightened up and touched his forehead. "James, hey James are you okay? What happened?" she asked as tears flowed out of her eyes

"I..la ar..m allrrrarr" he replied. James was very scared and frustrated. Tears formed in his eyes. What happened to him? What happened to AI? All the unanswered questions were flowing around him as he heard the silent howling of the ambulance as it sped ahead.

James became partially unconscious. All he could hear was muffled speech and sounds. He remained in that state until he regained full consciousness. He was oblivious of the time that passed.

James noticed that he was in a room, but it was not his room. The bed he was sleeping on was not his bed or the scent of the environment. In fact, it was not the house of the Harts. He tried to get up but was unable to, and he could not open his eyes. Although James could feel his body again, he could not move a muscle.

'AI' James thought. He received no response, which frustrated him even further, but before he reacted, a finger gently touched his forehead, which for some reason jerked his body like he had epilepsy.

"Oww" James was able to open his eyes and focused on the woman in his front, which he recognized instantly. James felt a little different like he was a different person altogether. He had a lot of memories of the person in front of him. Every Thanksgiving, he had always expected her and her family to come to join them as her mom would prepare the sumptuous meal.

His parents. James now remembered. His parent died in a kitchen fire, which knocked him out and caused him to forget everything. James could not hold back his tears as for the first time, he wailed and hugged aunt Martha "No aunty, I miss mom and dad, I miss him so much!" he cried on Martha's chest.

James was depressed for the rest of the day. Martha tried and failed to make him eat, all James did was stare at the ceiling and cry from time to time. "I cannot believe this. Mom and dad died more than a month ago, and I did not even remember" he said, using his sleeve to clean the tears on his face when Martha walked to his room to collect the food that was untouched on the table for two hours.

"Honey it was not your fault. Remember that that that kitchen fire caused this. It was simply an accident." Martha tried to console him. James stared straight into her eyes and asked "Aunt, please be honest. Did you think that fire was accidental or intentional?" Martha's eyes flashed a look of hesitation, she could not bring herself to tell James all that transpired.

"Uhh… You know, fire accidents happen in most homes due to…" Martha was talking when James interrupted her. "Aunt, I'm not talking about fire accidents in homes, I asked if the fire that killed my parents was accidental or intentionally caused. Please don't lie to me aunt" James said with a depressed look.

Martha sighed and sat on his bed, then she began telling James everything that had transpired, up to the time she saw a suspicious person on a minibus, and the time he has almost been kidnapped thanks to a mystery woman.

"Wait, you are telling me that a woman saved me from three kidnappers by diverting their attention? Who was she?" James asked incuriously.

"That's what I don't know too dear" Martha pondered.

As if on a cue, there was a gentle knock on the door. John, who rushed to the estate four hours ago to meet his family after Martha informed him, took a stick in the storeroom and cautiously approached the door. "Careful John" Martha whispered as she gathered her kids to James' room and prepared to close the door.

"Who's there?" John demanded in a deep voice. "Hello Mr Hart, I'm Amy Penn. Can I come in?" a woman answered. John looked at his wife confused. "She was the one that told us to meet here. Let her in" Martha said with a normal voice.

After Amy entered the sitting room, Martha came out of the bedroom to see who her saviour was but was shocked. It was a young woman, somewhere around her early twenties who risked her life to veer off the assailants. John, however, became alarmed.

"What the hell? Was it not you that I saw in a minibus a week ago? You said your brother attends the gym I and my wife goes to. But how…" John asked suspiciously. Amy nodded slightly and sat down. "Look, let me explain everything" Amy sighed.

"Please, start from why people are trying to murder our family," Martha said.
