57 Coup (1)

*Quest received*

*Empire in turmoil*

*With the sudden coup on not just one but two sides, the empire has fallen into a state of war. And you, Baron Enderson, are right in the middle of it. I mean literally in the middle of it, your territory is connected to all three factions with the east being the empire and the north and south being bordered to the two groups intent on fighting them.*

*Pick a side, who would you fight for?*

*Demi-humans/Human/Dragons*

*Hint: Hehe, even I feel sorry for you…*

Seeing the three letters in front of him a young adult with black hair and eyes looked frustrated at the options. Naturally, he would choose the strongest of the three options, but the System in front of him was more intent on killing him as the las t choice where he chose the safest option but had for some reason been the most dangerous one. After a long silence with teeth grinding, hair being pulled and frustrated cries he picked his choice.

'Other people got systems that helped them with their reincarnations, and I got stuck with this piece of…'

Back at Wind City, Celer stood in front of his door where a large line of soldiers could be seen marching towards him. In the front was Amadeus on Sleipnir that stood out from the whole army. Seeing his old friend Amadeus let out a smile but he held back, and it was only after the pleasantries at the front of the castle did the two drop the act.

"It's been some time Celer."

"It has indeed your highness."

Looking at the ring on Celer's finger he let out a smile,

"It seems it's official now."

Celer traced his ring with a smile,

"Well, you will need to keep up with me for now, until Eurus grows up."

His two childhood friends were getting married and he could see the happiness in Celer's eyes. Celer and Veronica had been childhood sweethearts and the two had finally made it official. As Veronica was the sole daughter and there was no heir apparent for that position, she couldn't marry into Celer's family. In turn it had to be the opposite, but this was not unusual given the birth-rates of dragons. However, even if the two were engaged, Eurus needed to be of age and education to replace Eurus and that won't be happening any time soon.

Amadeus nodded as he walked ahead. The two headed for the main hall room which was temporary fashioned into a war room with a large table in the middle. On top of the table, lay a map detailing the southern region of the empire. The were various pins that were allocated to the temporary position of both ally and enemy forces.

The first thing Amadeus said when walking into the room was,

"Is there any response from the Bestia Empire?"

"None yet."

The room that was filled with heavy atmosphere gained a bit more weight with the entrance of Amadeus. Torches were aligned along the walls giving the room a sombre feeling due to the absence of windows. Various military personnel surrounded the table. They were analysing the map but faced Amadeus with a salute. This wasn't an official ceremony, so there was no need to kneel. They just bought their right fist to the left of their chest.

"At ease."

Amadeus naturally made his way to the head of the table,

"You should get some rest your majesty."

An unassuming individual asked to which Amadeus gently shook his head,

"It's fine. We need to be quick; I can't leave matters of the state for too long. How are the enemy's movements?"

"They have captured two minor cities and are laying siege on the third."

Amadeus nodded as a contemplative look appeared on his face.

"Excluding the Shield guard that would stay behind, I have brought a total of 70,000 from the special training unit. With the dragon army commanded by Celer we should have around 120,000 soldiers."

"Forgive me for speaking out of turn your highness, but we are still outnumbered 4 to 1."

Amadeus didn't reply but they were indeed outnumbered. There was no way he could allocate any more soldiers here as they were too far, or they were defending other regions. He couldn't trust any of the other countries due to a treaty. So, for now this was all they had.

The next day Amadeus stood on the city walls flanked by Irene and his maids, he couldn't see the enemy army, but he just stood there in thought.

The army was getting ready behind him and were ready to move after their rest. The four cities where the dukes were located, and the capital city were all part of a formation and there was no way that the enemy would be able to get through. With the cities strengthening each other, there was a teleport formation in each of the situation to be used for emergencies. So, unless they were besieged on all four sides, it was easy to move troops to each city if only one or two were sieged.

The group were more intent on expanding the territories at the south and try and convert the populace rather than directly take over the empire. The advancement of this would be slow but it had more long-lasting effects. Plus, it had a far and wide reach.

On the other hand, what was happening in the west was much worse, but the group over there seemed to have stopped. Anywhere they go they will be met with resistance, so it did give Amadeus some buffer time.

Seeing that the soldiers were ready Amadeus turned around and started walking down the stairs of the wall. His rings flashed as one liquified and encompassed him, turning into his armour while the other into a glaive. Climbing upon Sleipnir, he came in front of the army as he raised his glaive.

All the hustle and bustle came to a halt as everyone's eyes landed on Amadeus' face. His face wasn't covered as a serious look plastered his face. Hints of maturity on that childish face gave it an odd yet comical contrast yet no one laughed. It was this very face that was leading them to battle. They had all trained their best to fight for that face and were willing to give up their life.

Amadeus didn't give any speech as none was needed to raise the moral. The fire in their eyes was burning at their peak, and he didn't want to disappoint. Celer was at the forefront with his armour and watched with worry. A series of hand signals were given out as the army prepared to move with Amadeus at the front. They had located the enemy encampment not far from the city. They weren't preparing to attack wind city but the three minor cities apart from the one in between the capital and wind city.

With them leaving the gates amidst the cheers and support of the citizens, Amadeus at the forefront went into a strange state. All the noise surrounding him was muffled as sweat appeared on the back of his arms. A fear plagued his heart, a fear only to him as he led an army behind him. Some would return tired, some would return slightly injured, some would return with heavy injuries, even losing a limb or two, whilst some would be embraced by Mother Orbis.

A heavy feeling descended on his shoulders as the army behind him resembled a snake, inching towards their first ever battlefield.

- South-West of Breeze city -

The coup done at the south was progressing rather well in the eyes of Marquis Karzox. They had taken over two cities and were close to taking the third. With having three cities, they just had to defend until the other group also took over three before they could simultaneously lay siege on the two major cities.

The first two were rather easy to take over but it was the third one which proved difficult. Before he could think any further, a bird appeared and landed on his arm. He seemed to communicate with the bird as a frown appeared on his face.

"It seems they left, coming to us instead of the east…are they looking down on us?"

Amadeus had expected this as he carried on walking, indulged in his own thoughts.
