55 The Church Duo

After quite a long time, Kento and Saji went around clearing the mess made by students. As discipline representatives, they were tasked with quite a lot of things and that included fixing the damages to property.

At least the ones that could be easily fixed.

"Thank you for working so hard to keep this place clean, Kento and Saji." 

The one to say this was Asia. She met the boys when she was running an errand for Akeno and decided to go back with them.

"It's nothing much." Kento said. "We were just doing our job."

"But not having someone for the clean up is quite annoying." Saji sighed.

They had janitors but for some reason, Sona left these small cleanups to Saji and Kento.

After being done with everything, the boys realized that it was already pretty late and all the students had gone home. The only ones left were the student council and Occult Research members.

So, they thought of dropping Asia off at the mansion where she was staying, thanks to Rias. 

"My mom invited you to dinner." Kento revealed, without explaining much. "You can come as well, Asia."

"Huh?" Saji was surprised by the reveal.

"I told her about you and how you have helped me so far." Kento shrugged. "And she told me to invite you for dinner as a token of appreciation. And I would like that too." He smiled at the pawn. "Besides, her cooking is phenomenal."

As someone who did not have the privilege of growing up eating their mother's food, this invitation was a great deal to Saji.

"I-I… I would love that!" He expressed, his eyes gleaming with hope. "There is nothing better than home cooked food."

"M-Me too!" Asia answered meekly. "I would love to eat your mother's cooking."

Kento could not deny Saji's words. "Definitely, it is a comfort food."

The three talked about the new things they have been trying out recently and they respected the efforts each of them were putting in their work.

But as they walked, they noticed two figures entering the school campus.

"Huh?" Saji was confused. "Who is it at this hour?"

At first, he thought it were some students that must have forgotten something. However, that idea changed as Kento pointed out a key fact.

"Why are they in robes?"

Both the boys were confused as to why they came hooded.

As they analyzed the two individuals, Kento knew he had the best way to figure out their identity.

'They are from the angels' side!' Kento was shocked at the boldness of the two girls to walk into the devils territory.

Seeing them covering their faces, Saji frowned. 

"Who are you?" He asked, walking towards the two girls. "And why are you hooded?"

But the biggest surprise came when they replied.

"Move you filthy devil." One of them said, who Kento identified as Xenovia. "And call your masters."

Saji at first was taken aback by the way they spoke but upon realizing how disrespectful they were being –he felt annoyed.

"Who do you think you are to talk to me in such a way?" He asked, frowning at the two. "I don't think we were informed about any supernatural being making a visit. So, speak… Who are you and what is your purpose for coming here?"

The girl, whose blue strands of hair poked out of her hood barely stared at Saji. 

However, Kento could see the look of disgust in her face.

"Move you filth." She said. "I asked you to bring your masters and you did not listen. So, do not blame me for what happens next."

As she said this, both the girl next to her as well as Kento's eyes widened.

"Xenovia don't!"

"Saji move!"

The two said simultaneously, but the girl had already made her move. She manifested a sword and immediately swung it towards Saji.

However, thanks to being a devil with enhanced senses, Saji was barely able to dodge.

Yet it was not without taking any damage.

"*Ugh!*"

The boy was grazed by the sword, burning his arm a little.

"L-Light!" He frowned, realizing that the girls were associated with either the church or the fallens. And upon recalling how poorly she addressed him, he realized she was from the church.

"You are from the church!" He said loudly. "How dare they send people here!"

"You have no need to know." The blue haired girl announced. "Bring out your masters or burn from my sword."

"Xenovia!" The other girl near-yelled. "Remember that we were told not to fight them. Besides, we should never stoop as low as hurting them first. They are not worth it."

Usually Kento did not care about these things. But their tone was certainly ticking him off.

Last time he felt this was with Riser and the only thing keeping them from falling on the same level as Riser was them not bringing any family into this.

Seeing Saji hurt, Asia immediately rushed to aid him.

"S-Saji!" She immediately looked at his wound and was horrified. "I-I'll heal you."

Saying this, she activated her Sacred Gear without a second's delay and started healing the wound.

But this action drew the attention of the two girls.

"That is…" The brown haired girl mumbled, surprised at seeing Asia.

"You are Asia Argento." The blue haired girl frowned, as her face morphed into disgust. "The traitor."

The moment she said this, Kento saw Asia's expression darkening and her eyes getting a little watery.

"T-Traitor…" She mumbled, remembering the painful past she suffered yet never gave up on god. 

Being called a traitor hurt, especially when she devoted her whole heart to god.

Xenovia drew her sword. "Maybe this is what we were meant to do, serve justice."

"Don't do it, Xenovia!" The brunette rushed towards her, but Xenovia had no intention of fighting from the start.

"Yet we are bound by our promises." She said, putting her sword back. "And I know, none of your blood is worth tainting this sword with."

"That's a bit harsh." Kento finally decided to speak, seemingly annoyed by their presence. "You entered a territory maintained by devils and you are pulling swords without even listening to them first. That's a bit unruly, I would say."

Kento did not like them one bit, but he tried not to curse at them from the start.

Even when the devils acted all high and mighty, he did not lash out.

And here, Saji and Asia were not even being disrespectful. So, he was even more annoyed at those girls.

"Who are you, another godless heathen?" She asked.

Kento gritted his teeth, but still managed to keep his smile.

"I cannot say that I am a devotee of the Christian god." He said. 

"Of course." Xenovia frowned. "A heathen either prays to none or prays to those pagan beings."

"It's alright, Xenovia." Irina said. "We did not expect them to be on the path of truth. They are just lost souls."

"You all are speaking a lot of trash." Kento was almost losing his cool with them. "What gives you so much confidence that you can just barge in here and expect to leave scratch free after insulting everyone?"

Kento was about to punch her, but he still maintained his gentlemanly smile.

Xenovia was furious. "We have God on our side." She said. "We can never lose to you heathens."
