House cleaning

There are many places that I could have ended up after stepping through the portal.

I have to say, I can't complain about where I ended up. I don't know if the boss personally chose where I would end up, but I'm glad that it's during modern times with the internet and showers available.

As for which reality I was in, I realized I was in DXD. How did I know? Well I asked locals. Being an isekai driver required that my head get stuffed with a minimum of 2 extra languages of my choice, so I chose Japanese and French back then.

I was in Kuoh, also I'm homeless. Feels bad. Boss didn't set up a house for me, but I guess it should be expected for me to take care of my housing situation myself.

In the 3 hours that I've been in Kuoh, I can say with complete assurance. That anime people look amazing in person. It's like, there are no blemishes or anything on their skin. Even the supposedly bad looking people didn't look that bad. In comparison I look like a damn train wreck.

My T-Shirt and shorts were the same ones I wore when I died. Which means they looked beat up and torn. Not a good look, although it fits considering I'm homeless.

Why don't I just get some clothes from the Gate of Babylon? Simple, I can't find any. What do I mean when I say I can't find any? Well from an hour of testing and playing around with the gate, I have learned some concerning things.

One. shooting things out of the gate actually costs my own magical energy. I found out earlier when I tried shooting rapid fire in a deserted area at some random trees. I think I shot out about 20-30 weapons before I dropped to the ground like Megumin after an explosion.

Two. I am actually required to have seen an item before in the gate to actually pull it out by will. The amount of crap inside the gate is HUGE and that's an understatement. I have noticed that it's split between two sections. Weapons and everything else. Honestly besides Rhongomyniad and my truck, the only other obvious thing that I can find in the gate is EA. Why? The damn thing is literally on a pedestal at the highest point of the treasury as if Gilgamesh wanted anyone who entered his gate to be in awe of it.

Three. I can enter the gate. That really caught me off guard. I was just casually taking inventory with my mind, then all of a sudden I accidentally entered the portal when I tried to pull something out.

Well, these downsides can be worked out with enough time so I'm not too worried.

For the first one, I just need to figure out how to increase my magical energy through some method. Second, I need to spend time out of my day to take inventory, although it will take A LOT of time considering the size of the treasury. As an extra, I should probably get my body at least averagely fit. I actually can't lift Rhongomyniad, I tried and I couldn't even raise it above my waist.

I guess until then, I should learn to fight close combat with my fists or something. But where? I'll think of it after I deal with my homeless situation.

Well it's official, I've reached a new low. I have become a squatter in an abandoned house. If I remember correctly, this house was where the first stray devil with the boob lasers was shown in the anime. I found that the semester at Kuoh academy didn't begin for another couple months. Which means that I have a couple months before canon starts.

*Creek*

"Shitty place really is falling apart." I muttered out as I examined the run down structure of the abandoned home. Honestly, I'm a little worried about falling asleep and having the whole place come tumbling down on me.

'This is kind of creepy.' No electricity, run down building, dim lighting from the outside. This reminds me of a haunted house.

"Maybe I should stay in the basement." I can't believe I'm actually considering that. It's creepy enough, but I really am worried of this place coming down on me. The stray devil hasn't taken residence here yet from what I can see. So staying in the basement might be better incase she shows up unannounced.

*Squeek* I flinched a little from the sound of the door to the basement.

It's dark down there. I'm honestly scared, shit is dark. Wait, I should have glowing gold eyes still.

'Flashlight eyes go!' I think to myself as my eyes flared out a soft gold light. It's funny, the only thing these eyes are good for besides identifying the department i worked for is for seeing in the dark.

Taking small steps down the staircase, ignoring the creaking of the floorboards. I stop to look around the basement area. Despite identifying it as a regular basement, albeit a bit messy. I still have goosebumps, I can't help the fact that I'm a damn scaredy cat.

Flashing my eyes around the room like a flash-light, I notice there doesn't seem to be any other rooms down here. Honestly that's a relief, it means I don't need to go checking dark rooms. Alright, I just need to clean the place up and maybe get some electricity going somehow.

One Hour Later

This isn't working out. Dear lord, trying to move all the crap up the stairs and out the door is a lot of work. I found some gloves and a broom in the gate at least. But I am not making much progress, there's got to be a better way.

Some of the debris that have fallen on the ground are too heavy for me to move myself. Yes, I am that weak. In my defense, it's like 80 pounds at least! I need help, but who would help a guy clean out an abandoned home's basement?

'I got it!' After a moment of sweeping in deep thought, i figured out where I could get help with this!

I sprinted up the stairs and out of the house. I hope I can get one before it gets dark out.

The sky became dark by the time Gold returned to the abandoned house. He was breathing a bit hard as he was rushing to get the things he needed. Regardless he was determined to get the basement cleaned out tonight. Navigating through the house and down the completely dark basement with only his eyes as a light source. He noticed that he was no longer that he was no longer as afraid of the abandoned house as before.

He lit up the area with some candles he procured.

"Alright, please work." He said as he placed a piece of paper down on the floor. It was a flier with a circle-shaped diagram on it. The circle lit up with red light, the magic circle expanded as a white haired girl slowly rose from the ground. When the transfer finished, he waited as she took a look around the dimly lit room until she finally turned to him.

"What do you want?" Koneko asked flatly as she seemed guarded. It made sense as she was summoned in a creepy dark basement.

"I need..." Gold started out slowly as the white haired devil seemed to be ready to knock him through a wall. "you to help me clean out the basement." he finished as Koneko seemed to be stumped for a moment due to the odd request.

"Really?" she asked flatly with a deadpan stare of a thousand yards.

"*Cough* yah. Sorry if it's odd, my name's Aversis, Gold Aversis. I'm a mage who came to this town recently" With that admission Koneko immediately seemed to be on edge again as he raised up his hands to show he meant no harm. "Relax, I just wanted a place to stay for awhile and I'm sort of too physically weak to move larger stuff out of here."

"Can't you just use magic?"

"Well, I'm sort of new at the whole magic thing and don't have a spell for that." It's not exactly a lie, he was interested in learning magic as who wouldn't want to learn magic?

Koneko just seemed to give him an unimpressed look.

"Well can you help me here?" he asked a little awkwardly.

"You do realize you're in Gremory territory right?" she seemed to speak as if she was reminding him.

"I know and I'll introduce myself to your master later, but first I need a place to sleep for the night." he responded. He didn't mind introducing himself as a fledgling mage. Rias was probably too concerned about her engagement at the moment to make much trouble for him. Plus, introducing himself would get rid of a lot of questioning down the line. He didn't want to hide himself like a rat, he just wanted to chill out in the open in peace.

"Fine, here is the cost." she seemed to take out a device that somehow calculated the cost of the request.

"Um.. Do you accept gold? I don't have any of the currency of this country." he asked as he Koneko blinked at the sight of a golden ripple appearing from the air, dropping some gold coins in his hands. He said he was a mage, he wanted it to seem like he wasn't lying.

She took the handful of gold and nodded her head.

And that was how Gold spent the evening cleaning out his basement with the short cat girl.

I feel sort of inadequate as I watched a girl shorter than me lift heavy debris like it's nothing. By the gods, how does a body that small have that much strength!?

Glancing down at another piece of debris that's slightly smaller than the one she carried up, I wrapped my arms around it. "Alright, lift with the legs." I mutter to myself as I struggle to budge it.

A small sound escapes from my throat as I make a futile attempt to lift the debris, I think I started putting my back into it at this point. Damn, now my back's gonna be sore later. I freeze as I hear a cough beside me. How long has she been next to me!? I feel my face heat up a bit out of embarrassment.

"*Cough* Well, I'm just you know not feeling good today." I say as I back off from the rubble. She didn't buy my flimsy excuse, I don't even buy it.

"Right" She said with a damn smug expression on her face as she lifts it with ease.

Devil strength is bullshit.

"Much better." I say as I look around the basement. The debris and rubble lying on the ground was finally removed. It was near midnight by the time Koneko left.

"Now I just need to get some electricity and a bed."

A golden portal shimmered into existence above me as my truck was placed gently on the ground. I have a bed in the back of my truck, and the truck itself has it's own generator.

If worst comes to worst, I could have slept in my truck but It'd be uncomfortable sleeping in such a tight space after awhile. I opened the door and fiddled with the screen for a moment.

[Designated driver: Gold Aversis. Currently retired.] I hear the system coordinator inform me as I checked my status.

"Do I still have access to the shops?"

[Multiverse catalogue privilege still available. Current Credit balance: 174 credits. However due to being retired, Designated driver: Gold Aversis will no long be applicable for normal currency exchanges.]

Shit, this meant that I wouldn't be able to exchange any kind of money for store credit. The Multiverse catalogue allowed Isekai truck drivers to pretty much purchase anything in the multiverse. However you needed to use store credits to do that. The exchange rate from when I was working was 10,000 USD per 1 credit. Which wasn't a lot as cool things could cost hundreds of credits. However additions to the truck were always at a discount for drivers.

"Since I can't get store credits the normal way, how else can I get credits?"

[Current available methods include trading rare items or currency of known characters in the multiverse. Rare items could range from a rare weapon, divine relics, ancient scrolls etc.

It is also optional to make transactions to known characters in the multiverse. Example: Selling food to Son Goku for zenny.

The Currency of known character will be available for exchange. Rates of credit exchange will differ.]

So either I go looking for things myself or become a merchant for anime characters huh. Then again, rare weapons and relics... I have a gate full of that stuff. I wonder how much credits I could get for EA. It's not like I need it, also I can't actually use it without enough energy. Something to consider in the future I guess.

For now, I'll leave all the cool stuff be. Skipping over all the super powers and weapons, I navigate my way to the miscellaneous section. I search for generator in the search bar.

1000 credits for Arc Reactor

500 credits for Mass Produced energy coil

400 credits for....

scrolling all the way down to a regular cheap generator. Generator life estimated at 200 years. Power cables and complimentary installation included.

Price.... 50 credits.

Damn, even the cheap stuff feels pricy but I guess having someone else install it for me is convenient. Oh well, I guess it's an investment for more comfy living. I clicked to place it in the shopping cart. Navigating around through other miscellaneous things, I add a queen sized bed without frames, a 30 in flatscreen, some home appliances.

Total cost: 140 credits.

Reluctantly hitting buy, I sigh as my transaction was processed. Usually they take a minute or two. Placing my truck back in the gate, I silently wait until a green portal flashes open. A man in casual business attire stepped through. His eyes were glowing emerald green. Which meant that he was from the sales department.

"Gold Aversis?"

"That's me."

"Please sign here." he gave me a clipboard with some papers to sign.

"Thankyou for your purchase." he said as he snapped a finger, willing another green portal above us.

"These are your purchases, the technician will handle it from here." I watched him leave through his original portal as woman in blue stepped out.

"Where do you want it installed boss?" she asked as she gestured to the generator.

I smiled, it's nice to get good service. Shame there wasn't a cleaning service available.
