Early Retirement

You know, when they asked me where I saw myself 10 years in the future. I don't think I could have predicted running people over with a magical truck and sending them off to another world on a weekly basis.

Oh right, where are my manners? Name's Aversis, Gold Aversis. My role in this fanfic is to periodically piss off you readers every now and then with stupid decisions.

Breaking the fourth wall?

Check.

*BAM*

Flipping the switch to leave behind a decoy truck with no driver, I drove off stealthily as my truck cloaked itself. When I first started this job, I honestly felt incredibly conflicted. Everytime I ran a person over, my guilty conscience would make itself known and hound me down. However after about a month, I got used to it. Still felt like an ass, but I'm pretty chill about the concept of literally murdering people on a weekly basis.

I mean, I work for a R.O.B. Who would send them off into another world with powers and all that good stuff. Plus the job is incredibly lucrative, like I'm paid roughly a hundred thousand USD for every single person I run over. Hell I even have life insurance for my family if I end up dying. Granted my last living family member is my sister who I currently have a strained relationship with. But despite that, I owe her a large debt of emotional support in my early life or else I would have offed myself by now.

With some of my leftover cash after paying bills, I actually purchased upgrades to the truck as well. Just some interesting things like a cloaking device, decoy truck, pain canceling bumpers so that anyone I ran over wouldn't feel a thing and a few other neat stuff. I mean, while I'm pretty sure I count as a bad guy at this point. I still try to make it painless, plus they get to go off to some anime world so they'll get over their deaths eventually.

[Last target of the month: Reality 2147] The system coordinator that came with the truck informed me as I shifted gears and shifted into a different dimension.

Yup, there are countless dimensions and realities out there. I don't just work in one reality, supposedly each designated Isekai driver is given a certain amount of dimensions under their juristiction. Mine were dimensions 2101-2200. I considered asking the boss to let me work in other departments like the Interdimensional FBI. While it's true that their death rates are a little high, they get the coolest gear. Ah, I'm rambling again.

Silently making my way through the area, I confirmed the target. Hmm, a little weird since his eyes are covered but I've seen odder looking people. The target's in a black school uniform with only a bag. According to the data, he's a pretty decent dude. Which means... flipping a switch a 'little girl' appeared out of nowhere on the street. The kid seemed to have noticed it, I smiled at this. It's sort of cool to see dudes instinctively reacting to these situations.

With a honk of my siren horn, the engine of my truck roared to life. The target jumped towards the fake little girl, however he didn't push her away. My pupils constricted at the sight of his condescending smirk. The bangs covering his eyes finally parted due to the wind to reveal glowing gold eyes.

SHIT THIS GUY WORKS FOR ANOTHER R.O.B!

I've only heard of it, but sometimes R.O.Bs would troll each other by screwing with their employees.

It was too late to stop it, he pulled a rectangular object from his coat and held it straight up to me. My eyes processed the item and found it to be.....

"NANI!!!???" AN UNO REVERSE CARD!

*HOOOOOONKKK*

My head snapped to the right as another truck flashed into existence in midair. It was in the middle of hurtling towards me! The last thing I heard was the sounds of magical truck explosions.

Within a tacky looking office room, a guy with golden blonde hair and golden eyes was currently slumped in his chair in disbelief.

"Driver, Gold Aversis. Death at age 19. Sorry kid but rules are rules." The dapper gentlemen in suit and monacle informed his employee with a sigh.

"But boss! It was a setup!" Gold cried out indignantly as his golden eyes flashed a bit as if reacting to his emotions. Each worker under a R.O.B would have a certain color for their eyes changed the moment they accepted the job. It was to tell them apart from the departments they worked in. The Isekai Truck drivers had golden eyes.

The R.O.B. nodded his head in understanding. "I know it was a set-up. But fact is, it was still processed through the system. If I were to change it now, then I wouldn't hear the end of it for the next few million solar cycles from the other R.O.Bs." he sighed as his employee became downcast at the fact that he was indeed dead.

There are cases of Isekai truck drivers dying. Sometimes the target would be a super assassin which would kill the driver. Other times they would die normally in their life and go off into the afterlife. However this was the first case of a truck driver dying due the shenanigans of another R.O.B on the job.

"Chin up kid, it's not so bad. At least you get to go off to another world. I mean you could consider this a vacation or in this case, retirement!" the R.O.B tried to cheer him up

Gold Aversis sighed as he calmed himself into acceptance. His boss was right, it's not like he did much else besides watch anime and play games when he wasn't running people over. He lived a pretty content life, the only thing he was sad that he couldn't do was apologize to his sister before death.

"Wait, does my life insurance still count!?" Gold panicked since his death wasn't a regular death. He nervously watched as his boss shuffled through some legal documents in response to his question.

"Hmm... Ah, don't worry it still count." R.O.B informed as Gold let out a breath of relief.

"Your sister was informed of your death and the life insurance was received. For the rest of her life, she will have incredibly high luck." The luck given from life insurance wasn't small. It basically made it so that nothing bad would ever really happen to the recipient and insure that they live to an old life unless they tried to take their own life.

"That's a relief." he smiled as he finally relaxed "Alright boss, so what happens now?"

"Well, you'll take the original designated person's place in being sent to another world for amusement. However since this is a special case and I want you to relax in retirement, I'll make sure no other R.O.Bs will interfere with you." he smiled to his employee.

"Now for the fun part!" R.O.B clapped his hand as a wheel was revealed from the wall. "It originally listed the person to only get 1 power, however I tweaked it for you. You will still technically get one thing."

"What do you mean?" Gold asked confused

"These power boxes contain two abilities or items each related to their color and name. Normally you would just get one, but this way you get two!" He excitedly spoke as he pulled the lever

With whirring lights and clicking sounds, the wheel span and began to dump out boxes from the slot. Gold looked at the boxes in fascination as there were 5 boxes released.

"Now then, choose one." His boss said as Gold took a closer look.

There were 5 different colored boxes with their own labels. They were labeled as Earthly Brown, Frigid Blue, Black Abyss, Red Sun and Golden Fate. Gold was honestly unsure of what to pick, he didn't know if there were good powers or not. He started to feel like it'd be a lot easier to choose if he just knew the power.

"Can I just use one as an example so I know what to expect?" Gold asked his boss who raised a brow.

"Sure, choose one to serve as an example. Please note, you won't be able to take it with you after it opens." R.O.B warned

"Hmm... let's try Frigid Blue." Gold chose as the box began to shake and popped open. Two sets of words were displayed in the air in a blue font.

"Cultivation: Cold Origin and Ice-Ice Fruit." Gold now had a good idea of the rewards he was dealing with. Now he felt regret since he wouldn't be able to get it as this was an example.

"Don't worry, you still have 4 other choices." His boss patted his back as he cursed himself for being so stupid. Ice was such a cool power, hell even all his alternates that shared the name Aversis would agree. Yes he knew he had Alternate selves in the multiverse, the knowledge comes with being an isekai truck driver.

"Alright" he clapped his cheeks as he seriously considered his choices. Earthly Brown sounds like it would give nature or wood related powers, maybe even life energy. Black Abyss sounded so incredibly edgy but if he had to guess, it was probably some sort of dark power. Abyss seems to make it related to the underworld? Perhaps shadows.

Red Sun would probably be fire related or it could be something like being superman? Then there was Golden Fate. What does it mean by fate? It could be a reference to anime. Perhaps the fate series? Who has gold powers in fate? Kintoki, Gilgamesh, Excalibur was gold right?

"Take your time." His boss spoke good naturedly since Gold had been a pretty good employee in the time that he worked for him.

"Alright, let's go with Golden Fate!" He decided with a gulp. The box seemed to light up with gold light and pop like the last box. His eyes were nearly forced to shut themselves from the intensity of the light. His retinas were finally able to make out the words displayed in a gold font.

"Gate of Babylon and Rhongomyniad." Gold fist pumped as this was great! Granted, his actual body wouldn't be strong, he could work out or something. It's not like he's going to run off on some epic quest to save the world! With the gate, it would probably take care of most of his daily necessities. If he remembered right, it had a hot spring in there. He didn't know much about Rhongomyniad besides that it was Lancer Arturia's spear. He doesn't know how to fight, and his body was on the chubby side which meant that he wasn't built for combat.

"Hmm, adjustments need to be made." his boss spoke as he seemed to be in thought.

"Adjustments? Don't tell me you're gonna nerf me boss." he was a bit nervous, he wasn't sure if nerfing was a thing his boss did.

"No, just adjustments. That spear, we need to place it's power in something that you can use without the divine spirit possessing your body."

"So what did you have in mind then?" Gold felt relieved as he wasn't being nerfed.

"It would be easier to do if another spear was used as a catalyst. Preferably a larger weapon to accommodate the amount of power." the R.O.B was in deep thought. After a moment he brought out a catalogue. "Let's see some golden spears." he muttered as he flipped to a section.

"Uh, first thing that pops in my head when I think of big golden spears is that Dragonslayer Swordspear from dark souls." Gold commented as there really wasn't a lot of golden spears that he knew of.

"Found it, that will have to do then." his boss found the spear that his employee spoke of. "Yes, it should fit. Come over here, I need to break off a piece of your soul." R.O.B spoke as a large swordspear came into existence.

"Wait wha-?" Gold felt a sharp pain from his being before he could finish. As if a piece of him was ripped off from him. "GAH WHAT THE HELL!?"

"The pain is easier to deal with if you aren't expecting it." his boss commented as a pillar of holy light erupted from his will.

To Gold, the light felt out of this world. As if the tremendous power was the tower of light itself. The brilliant light seemed to flare out in unwillingness as the R.O.B took control of it. Eventually the light was unable to stand against the unfathomable power of the R.O.B and allowed itself to surround the sliver of Gold's soul.

"WHY IS THE PAIN BACK!?" Gold writhed on the ground during the entire process. Once the Light was finally assimilated with the piece of his soul, R.O.B began to gently fuse the now golden soul and Swordspear together. The SwordSpear originally had a rustic silver bronze look, but it became completely golden after fusing with the light.

Gold shakily stood up as the pain was gone, replaced by a gentle feeling of contentment. His body however, felt like it had just finished a marathon. He had never ran a marathon, he could barely jog a mile before collapsing due to his unhealthy lifestyle.

"Congratulations!" R.O.B spoke as he clapped, however then he coughed and spoke a bit lowly. "Now for the bad part...." Gold stopped in his moment of introspection as he turned to his boss questioningly. If a R.O.B says it's bad, then it's probably bad.

"....What do you mean by bad?" He cautiously asked with some trepidation. If the pain wasn't bad, then what was bad?

"Well... Since you've killed quite a few people, you will be subjected to a random negative effect that will follow you." His boss embarrasingly spoke as Gold didn't understand.

"But... I killed people on the job! Surely it shouldn't count if I did it on the job right?!" he asked incredulously.

"Well... while being on the job does lessen the sin, it still counts a bit. But don't worry it's only a lesser negative, it shouldn't be too bad." his boss tried to assure him but he was still sort of worried. "Well let's get this out of the way." The wheel shifted into a slot machine as R.O.B pulled the lever again.

The machine whirred like a regular slot machine from a casino. Gold was a bit worried once the machine stopped and popped out his lesser negative.

"Random Yandere effect." R.O.B declared as Gold became confused. "In each world you go to, there will always be ONE random person of the opposite gender who will gradually become obsessed with you. However you don't have to worry, the chances that you would encounter them is slim to none. It could be someone living on the other side of the world. As long as you don't put your face on a world-wide T.V show or something, you should be fine. But fair warning, their parameters and abilities will be boosted by 5x in their pursuit for you if you meet." His boss warned

"Alright, that doesn't sound too bad. Chances of that happening are pretty much none anyway." Gold relaxed as the chances of him meeting that ONE person of each world is pretty much non-existant.

"Well now that that's over with, is there anything else before I send you off to your retirement?" his boss asked as he seemed to think for a moment.

"Could I... keep my truck?" Honestly he was attached to his truck, it's been with him for years now. He's even slept in it quite often.

"Sure, I'll leave it in your gate for you." R.O.B said as a portal flashed into existence.

"Thanks, take care boss." Gold said his farewell, stepping through the portal towards the unknown.
