Predestined III

[Why do you keep asking?] The rather uneloquent system seemed as if it got fed up with me.

'Last time he killed me so swiftly... that I just don't know anymore' I sighed helplessly, holding what looked like a golden jar? Apprehension filled my mind for the whole duration that item was in my grasp, but this was part of my intentions, it was all or nothing.

I put the jar back on the ground before picking loads of coins and placing them inside, the atmosphere got even tenser. Then I took that jar and placed it in one corner that looked rather empty.

Nothing had happened yet and I sighed in relief, 'I'm still alive...'

Then I went forward to take what resembled a posh box with decorative bells and placed it somewhere else.

For several minutes I did just that; looking for the best way to arrange them in this room. Eventually, I placed everything in a semi-organised manner as much as I could, there were countless gold coins which I placed inside golden pots to the side, then there were swords and weapons I tidied on weapon racks, stands of herbs and pills… so on and so forth.

At some point, a smile appeared on my face, I didn't notice just yet.

But someone else did.

I cleaned the golden dust and poured it into pots, even dust was valuable here. Then after the place was neat I did the most complicated thing... arranging every single 'corpse' in order of size. I even brought those that I had seen before with difficulty, placing all of them inside.

After everything was organised there was a lot more space and even an entrance further into the cave was unveiled to me, it had been previously covered by gold. Everything looked so much better. Going by the treasures in this cave alone, I dare say that the whole wealth of the underworld couldn't be compared to this, and it was only an estimation.

I didn't know who these individuals were, what those pellets are for, or whether those are legendary weapons, everything simply looks… valuable.

Thinking that the next room couldn't possibly be worse, I saw the error of my ways after walking for ten minutes in a path of gold.

The next room I found was even worse, at least twice the number of treasures, everything scattered around in disorder but there were fewer corpses and sculptures than before.

'So these are the ones that went further but still failed'.

I even witnessed the silhouette of a woman running for her life near the entrance, she didn't make it… and she was also quite gorgeous with two fairy wings on her back.

As a maid, I began to clean everything I saw.

Until he finally lowered himself to speak to me.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"

I perked up and stopped immediately, here he is, he finally can't just sit there and watch me. I gulped and my hand shivered, my words would determine my fate, whether I live or die.

'Calm down, Grayfia...' I heard his voice as close as my ear, but upon turning around, there was no one there except for the small ball of fire that lit up the cave and the gold all around.

His voice wasn't violent, he merely asked me what I am doing. If before I could feel with a sixth sense that someone was watching me, now I undoubtedly felt his aura wrapping itself around me, not choking, not tight, simply present.

"Cleaning…"

"I didn't request that from you" His voice sounded slightly irritated, but I wasn't faced.

"I'm going to do it anyway, Richter-sama" I continued to clean, there was a brief lapse between each time he spoke to me as if there were myriad considerations in his mind.

I think he's looking at me wondering if something's wrong with my head, and... maybe something is indeed wrong in my head.

"Why?"

His tone indicated confusion. I can't blame him, if some unknown animal entered my house and began cleaning it; I would be surprised as well... I assumed that's just how existences like him view people like me.

"Because you're allowing me to stay in your realm, for free. I have to repay you somehow and your caves need someone to tidy it up"

It was the truth, I have nowhere to go, if I don't die trying to accomplish this mission, what can I do? I have already rejected the proposition to go back, there is no second choice for me.

This dragon is the 'landlord' and I'm merely seeking asylum, the mission? I would leave that for later.

"…"

The Dragon didn't answer but his aura never left me. I was left to complete my duty peacefully for the rest of the day, 'Show me your things and I will tell you who you are' the more I cleaned the more I learned what sort of individual he is.

First I had my doubts about whether he is male or female… that's simply due to the number of eggs there are, they can't be all laid by him, right?

I hoped not, because a lesbian relationship with a dragoness wasn't something I'm ready for despite being a devil.

The other possibility which is the one I'm more willing to believe is that all these eggs are his. He mates with lots of dragonesses and then petrified the eggs they laid?

I remained in my spot for a while, thinking.

With one possibility he's a lesbian dragoness, with the other he's a psychotic bastard.

My possibilities weren't faring well.

'Are you insulting me somehow?' He asked me all of a sudden, clearly upset!

'Not at all, Richter-sama!'
