11 The First Task. The Extras Try to Shine!

Harry returned to the champions' tent slightly disheveled but with a victorious smirk on his face. He'd gotten his bets placed in time. "Oh hey Harry, welcome back!" Jake waved at him. "You missed the monster drawing, so you got whatever was left over. I wasn't really listening to whatever everyone else was facing."

Harry's smirk faded temporarily as he remembered that he, too, was going to have to compete in this deadly tournament, not just Jake. But that didn't matter because he was going to be rich... well, richer. Actually, a lot richer! "So, what are you facing then, Jake?" Harry asked.

Jake took on a victorious grin. "Hahaha, you're looking at the next dragon slayer!" Jake declared, pointing at himself.

Fleur and Victor, who were nearby, just shook their heads in denial. "He is going to be roasted alive," Fleur said, while Victor nodded. When they first met him, they had believed he seemed very capable. When they found out he didn't even use a wand, however, they figured he actually was an idiot who was going to die…

Harry looked at them curiously. "Aww, just ignore those killjoys, Harry," Jake said. "They'll see soon enough when I instantly curb stomp that dragon into the dirt."

Harry didn't know what 'curb stomping' was (since it was 1994...), but he just nodded along to Jake's boasting. He had seen him cast spells, and if Jake had learned a few more by now like he claimed, then he was sure to succeed.

Harry and Jake continued to have small talk until a loudspeaker voice roared through the entire area around the stadium.

"IT IS TIME FOR THE FIRST TASK TO COMMENCE! WILL OUR FIRST COMPETITOR, LUIS FROM BEAUXBATONS, PLEASE COME TO THE ARENA!"

Luis, still dressed in a super sparkly French robe, stood up and smiled. "Wii, it is time to show the entire wizarding world how fabulous I am!" He then glared at Fleur. "Then everyone will know who the true most beautiful student at Beauxbatons is." Luis stormed out of the room after his declaration.

All the remaining competitors glanced at Fleur in curiosity as she just glared right back at Luis, who left the champions' tent.

"I sense some pent-up aggression that has a long history between the two of them," Harry whispered to Jake, who agreed with him.

Luis's POV

"IT IS TIME FOR THE FIRST TASK TO COMMENCE! WILL OUR FIRST COMPETITOR, LUIS FROM BEAUXBATONS, PLEASE COME TO THE ARENA!"

Luis stood up from his spot and, after taunting that trumpet Fleur, he headed to the arena so he could finally shine. All his life, Luis knew that he was destined to be a star. He had luscious long hair, a slender body, and that kind of androgynous face that models would kill to have. In his own words, he was absolutely perfect! He was destined to be the most popular student at his school the entire seven years he was there! But then, that all came crashing down once he made it to school in his first year and found out that a student was a quarter-Veela. No one even bothered paying attention to him for almost the entire seven years he'd been there! It had always been about Fleur this and Fleur that.

When the Triwizard Tournament was announced, he saw his chance to prove himself. He was confident that Fleur's Veela charm would not affect an ancient device like the Goblet of Fire. He expected to be chosen over her, but he was wrong. She was selected instead. Clearly, the Goblet was faulty. But that did not matter in the end, because Harry Potter had somehow tampered with the Goblet and entered the Tournament as an extra champion from his school. Luis seized the opportunity and volunteered to take the spot. Surprisingly, none of the other Beauxbatons students tried to stop him or take his place. Maybe they knew how much he despised Fleur and how far he would go to defeat her.

Luis had to stop his reminiscing as he entered the arena. It looked like a rocky stage that provided some cover...for the weaker competitors. Luis stood on the highest rock so he could be in the spotlight.

"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, I PRESENT TO YOU OUR FIRST COMPETITOR, LUIS!"

Luis basked in the cheers he received from the hundreds of spectators who were clapping for him and him alone.

"THE RULES ARE QUITE SIMPLE. SINCE WE HAVE SIX CHAMPIONS INSTEAD OF THREE, ALL LUIS HAS TO DO IS DEFEAT HIS MAGICAL CREATURE OPPONENT OR OPPONENTS. LUIS WAS INFORMED OF WHAT HE WOULD BE FACING EARLIER, BUT HE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO PREPARE SPECIFIC COUNTERMEASURES."

In the end, it didn't matter what he was facing. Luis felt a bit embarrassed at himself, but he was too distracted by Fleur's presence in the champions tent to pay attention when it was his turn to draw his monster. He vaguely remembered reaching into the disgusting bag, but for the life of him he had no recollection of what monster he pulled out and selected. It was all Fleur's fault anyway for distracting him and making him angry.

Whatever he was facing it didn't matter, he was too beautiful not to succeed! And once he won the whole tournament, this incident would be a small funny anecdote for his memoirs.

Luis stood on his tall rock, radiating confidence and pride, and waited for his opposition to appear.

"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, I PRESENT TO YOU LUIS'S OPPONENT. ONE OF THE MOST TERRIFYING CREATURES IN THE WIZARDING WORLD…A NUNDU!"

"..." There were gasps of shock from the spectators. Nundu's were some of the most dangerous magical creatures in the entire wizarding world!? A few audience members started praying for Luis's soul because he was going to die…

'A...a nundu?' Luis thought to himself in fear. He felt a wet sensation running down his leg. He glanced at his sparkly pants and saw that they were soaked...right where his crotch was. 'That's weird,' he thought, still in shock.

"Oh my god, did he just pee himself?" A spectator yelled out.

"Ewwww, that's so gross."

"Hahaha, he's so scared that he wet himself! This tournament is awesome!"

Mockery and laughter filled the stadium from students and others alike. He had gone from being on top of the world to being its joke in an instant...

"ROAAAAAAAR!" The nundu entered the arena with a deafening roar, and Luis felt its eyes on him. He was standing on the highest hill with no cover, and the beast was glaring right at him.

"Roar!" The nundu roared again, this time directly at Luis, who made the most impactful decision of his young life.

With his pants wet and his face streaked with tears and snot, Luis turned and ran out of the arena as fast as he could. "I DON'T WANT TO COMPETE ANYMORE! I'M GOING HOME!" He screamed as he headed for the emergency exit that was spelled to only allow wizards and not magical creatures to pass.

The ferocious nundu who was ready to devour its prey was saddened that it ran away…

The spectators watched in shock as the French boy who had looked so confident just moments ago fled in terror.

"Wait, I thought competitors couldn't quit. Did he just give up his magic?" A spectator asked aloud. The arena erupted in questions as everyone wondered what had just happened.

"I paid good money to be here and get these seats. That was really disappointing!"

"I want a refund for my ticket!"

Dumbledore sensed the tension in the spectators growing from being denied a bloody show. He cast the sonorous charm on himself and his voice washed over the entire arena.

"ATTENTION, EVERYONE," DUMBLEDORE SAID. "FORTUNATELY, THE CHAMPION LUIS WAS A BONUS CHAMPION ASSIGNED FROM HIS SCHOOL TO MAKE THE COMPETITORS EVENLY NUMBERED. THEREFORE HE IS IN NO DANGER OF LOSING HIS MAGIC DUE TO QUITTING. FURTHERMORE, THERE ARE FOUR COMPETITORS WHO MUST COMPETE NO MATTER WHAT. SO EVEN IF THE OTHER BONUS CHAMPION ALSO QUITS, I GUARANTEE THAT YOU WILL SEE ALL FOUR OF THEM COMPETE!" Dumbledore explained to the disgruntled audience who finally calmed down and just let out some grumbles about paying to see six competitors and not four…

Sergei POV

"Boooooooooo!" From his waiting spot in the champions tent, Sergei could hear a constant stream of booing coming from the arena. Sergei figured that the puffed up sparkling frenchy had utterly failed.

Unlike the Frenchy, Sergei had never known failure. Sergei was always the best at everything he tried. Whether it came to Athletics, dueling, or magic in general he was always the top of the class. He was durbstrang's top student! The only thing he was mediocre at was flying. Sergei had a small fear of heights... But that didn't matter because flying wasn't part of the triwizard tournament, at least he hoped it was not. So why then did no one at Durmstrang ever talk about him? It was always Victor this and Victor that!

Just because Krum played professional Quidditch everybody always focused on everything he did! And Sergei's reputation was always left in the dust. Well not today and not this time! Sergei was going to prove to everyone right now that he was the superior wizard and it should have been him who was chosen as the champion, and not just some student who happens to fly really well on a broom!

"WILL THE NEXT COMPETITOR PLEASE COME TO THE ARENA." the announcer's voice called for Sergei. Strangely the announcer's voice sounded somewhat defeated or depressed? Whatever, that wasn't Sergei's problem anyway. He was facing a legendary chimera! A beast that was a certified wizard killer. He needed to get his head into the game.

Sergei entered the arena to the cheers of all the people in attendance. This is what he was waiting for, and now he shall prove himself the best.

"AND OUR SECOND CHAMPION FROM DURMSTRANG IS ABOUT TO FACE OFF AGAINST THE LEGENDARY CHIMERA. LET'S HOPE HE SURVIVES!" The announcer shouted out for all to hear.

"Roar-hiss-baaah!" And there it was, the chimera had entered the arena as Sergei stared it down. Its lion head looked ferocious, its snake tail looked deadly and the goat on its back well, that always looked a little silly but still, it could be dangerous. Knowing he couldn't give the beast any advantage, Sergei immediately cast his first spell.

"Bombarda maxima!" Sergei fired a maximum powered blasting curse right at the lion's head. Unfortunately, the chimera dodged out of the way as the curse missed and slammed into the wall right behind it with a bang!

"Damn it!" Sergei cursed. The bugger is fast.

Pissed off at this human who would dare try and attack it, the chimera lunged forward at Sergei. "Protego maxima!" Sergei called out as his strongest magical shield formed in front of him just in time for the chimera's fierce claws to slam into it. Suddenly, it became a battle of his magical power versus the beast's sheer muscles and Sergei's shield was holding strong surprisingly. The spectators who were holding their breaths the whole time cheered at his display of magical prowess. Sergei himself had never felt more alive. This is what he lived for!

Sergei threw a large amount of magic at his shield that was currently holding off the chimera and it was flung backwards. Not giving it a second to catch its breath, Sergei started unleashing all of the darkest magic he'd learned at Durmstrang as curse after curse was silently fired from his wand and impacting the beast. One of Sergei's dark curses hit the lion head right in the eye, immediately melting it!

"Roar!" The lion head howled in outrage and pain as Sergei smiled triumphantly. He had it on the ropes now. It was time to finish it! Sergei fired his strongest, darkest severing curse right at the chimera's tail, completely severing the snake from the rest of the Abominations body!

"Roar - Baaaaah!" The Lion and the Goat were outraged that their Snake part was slain by this human. But they've been pelted by dark curses from Sergei the entire time and the lion was already half blind. Making one last desperate charge the Chimera rushed Sergei for a final time. Limping it's whole way towards him much slower than it did and its initial charge at the start of the battle.

Sergei merely scoffed at the beast. It was time to end this. He pointed his wand at the creature. "Avada Kedavra!" Sergei used the killing curse and it hit the lion right in the face. The chimera lapsed. The students in the audience gasped in shock, most of them never having seen the killing curse in action before. It was frankly terrifying to them! The dark witches and wizards in the audience politely clapped at his perfect display of the spell against an inferior creature.

Sergei walked over to the creature's corpse and kicked the lion right in the head. "Pathetic beast," he said. "That's what you get for trying to harm a superior pure-blood wizard such as myself." Sergei gloated to the seemingly dead animal. Unfortunately for Sergei, there was a little-known fact about chimeras: they were essentially a fusion of three separate creatures to make one deadly creature. Therefore, if you wanted to truly kill it, you had to kill all three parts. Sergei had slain the snake with his severing spell and his killing curse had struck the lion, but he forgot about...the goat.

The goat that was on the back of the chimera had been playing dead as soon as the lion was slain. Waiting for Sergei to get close enough. It lunged up and bit Sergei right on the shoulder! Sergei screamed in agony for a couple of seconds, but unfortunately the goat had bitten too hard and Sergei's entire arm was removed from his body by the vicious goat! Sergei passed out from the shock. He had failed his task!

Aurors who were on standby in the arena for the champion's safety immediately rushed in and stopped the goat from inflicting further harm on Sergei. With magic medi-witches should still be able to attach his severed arm at least… Whether he continues to compete though after such a shocking ordeal was another story though.

The audience watching was horrified. One moment they were cheering for a student's victory and the next he was dismembered just like that. The judges themselves were also shocked and speechless. The students in the audience were absolutely terrified. Most had never seen something so graphic! Truly, this tournament was a lot more dangerous than they had initially thought. And there were still four more champions to go…
