22 A Taste of Wrath

—------------------------------

With her mission completed, it had been about a week since Serafall had left Hogwarts to return to the Underworld. This was much to the disappointment of Jake and the other students in Gryffindor house. Before she left though, they had spent some more time together after his duel with Malfoy, where she took the time to explain some more facts about devil culture and history to Jake. To say it was quite a bloody history would be an understatement. But he was proud of her and his brother for changing the path of their race towards one that leaned, maybe not quite good yet, but at least more neutral instead of the pure evil they were before...

She had also taught him a few more easy devil spells that he'd finally had time to practice. These spells had to be learned the proper way, and not by her blasting him with her magic. Serafall had even taught Jake how to create his own mini pocket dimension (aka inventory) where he could store small objects. She told him that he'd need it for when he officially visited the Underworld and got his 'Evil Pieces' to start his own peerage.

After his recent adventure to the Chamber of Secrets, Jake had gotten a bit more combat experience as he learned what spells and techniques he needed to work on to get stronger. Since then, Jake had spent most of his time where he currently was, in the Forbidden Forest, practicing magic. In the short amount of time, he'd surprisingly gotten a lot more skilled with ice magic, able to cast more than just spears or giant bats made of ice. He created a pretty powerful shield made of pure ice that was useful because it could also be seen through. It was also a solid shield so the so-called unforgivable curses would be blocked by it unlike a Protego or a Protego Maxima.

Jake also learned the Protego Maxima spell too, not that he figured he'd ever need it with his new ice shield as it was just superior in every way. On the other hand, Jake had taken the time to learn the Bombarda Maxima spell and 'holy crap' did that thing kick ass! One might think that it was just a regular Bombarda that was just powered up even further when you said the word Maxima, but that wasn't the case. Otherwise he would've been throwing them around the entire time for how much excess magic he was pouring into his spell before. Surprisingly, the Maxima variant was actually three Bombardas all fired at the same time spinning around each other to form an exploding drill of death and destruction. It was definitely one of his favorite human spells at the moment! Had he been throwing this spell at the dragon, then he would have easily won that battle way before the Berserker potion kicked in and caused it to go all rampaging mega-evolution Pokemon on him.

Jake recalled that Serafall had told him not even to bother and learn any more "weak human magic" as she called it. But upon further recollection, he came to the conclusion that maybe at some points, Serafall would actually forget that he himself was actually a half-human. And therefore, the spells would actually work a lot better for him than they would for a devil trying to cast them… He didn't want to fully abandon his human side either and solely become a devil! He was proud of being part human!

Jake also found the concept of the stunning spell Stupefy to be extremely useful. At the moment, it was his only real combat spell that he could cast that wasn't lethal. He hadn't mastered his ice magic to the level even close to Serafall where he could freeze someone solid and not immediately have them die, and if they didn't, he'd still end up giving them severe frostbite or hypothermia probably.

*Snap* *Rustle*

Suddenly, from the treeline nearby, Jake heard the snapping of twigs followed by the rustling of branches. His instincts also told him to be on guard. They weren't screaming at him to flee though.

Suddenly, from the underbrush emerged the biggest tarantula Jake had ever seen in his entire life. It was easily 4 feet tall and 6 feet wide!

"Meat, hungry…" It hissed out in a quiet but vicious voice. Jake was shocked that it could speak at all! Also, it clearly wanted to eat him…

The giant, vicious tarantula charged right towards Jake! All eight of its gross legs homing in right on him.

Jake immediately threw up an icy shield that the tarantula slammed into full force. *Crack* It hit Jake's shield so hard that its front two legs actually broke from its stopped momentum.

*Screeeeeaaaachhh* On the other side of his ice shield, Jake could see the tarantula open up its mandibles before it unleashed a small stream of venom right and towards his shield. Upon contact with the ice, the venom actually started melting through it slightly!

Jake was a bit shocked at that. That wasn't ordinary ice, but magically enchanted and strengthened ice. Even ordinary flames would have no effect on it! He definitely didn't want any of that venom getting on him, at least not without Blaze nearby to heal him!

The tarantula finished spitting its venom, noticing that it had failed to fully melt his shield. "Human, will eat you," it spoke again in that eerie whispering voice it had.

Jake formed an ice sword in his hand and released the magic holding his shield up. As it quickly vanished, Jake took advantage of the spider's surprise and swiped right at its head with his blade. His sword connected and he cleaved through a bunch of the spider's eyes!

*Screeeeeeeeaaaaaccchhh,* "Will kill you, human! Brothers, help. We feed!" It called out surprisingly loudly.

More rustling was heard in the brush surrounding Jake before two more giant spiders, though thankfully not quite as large as the first one, flanked him from both sides. They charged him simultaneously and Jake inwardly thanked Serafall for teaching him the importance of dual casting as he held out both arms and formed ice shields at both of his flanks. Both the new spiders slammed into a shield each.

Deciding to take them one at a time, Jake dropped the shield on his left before forming a new ice sword and charging the second spider. The spider reared back on its two back legs and spit venom at him. Jake dove under the liquid before rising up and slamming his blade right into the arachnid's torso up to the hilt!

The spider shook for a moment before it collapsed backwards, dead!

*Hisssss! Shreaaaakkk!*

"Avenge kin!" "Eat human!" The first and third spider spoke aloud.

Both spiders, not employing any new tactics, started to charge at him again. Before Jake could throw up two more shields, an arrow flew through the forest and slammed into the first spider's head from its blinded side. It dropped to the ground, dead.

The third tarantula, noticing that now a second of its brothers was dead, immediately turned around and started to flee back into the forest! "Will…have …revenge!" It hissed out as it fled.

Jake let out a sigh but didn't drop his guard as he now heard… 'horse hooves?' approaching him. From the section of the woods the arrow came from, emerged a large centaur.

The centaur, upon spotting Jake, spoke up, "Human, you should leave here. The day grows late and the forest grows dangerous this eve. Three masked shadows stalk these woods. Beware, for the father seeks justice for the son…" With that cryptic message delivered, the centaur didn't bother saying anything more to Jake and just turned around and trotted off.

"..."

'Rude!' Jake thought. The centaur didn't even give Jake a chance to speak before it left…

"Well, that wasn't ominous or anything," Jake muttered to himself. He'd been training all day and the sun was getting low. This was the latest he'd actually stayed in the woods this past week. Jake wondered if those spiders came out at night exclusively since he'd never seen one during the day. Also, now he was kind of understanding why this was called the Forbidden Forest if it had man-eating giant spiders…

Jake left his familiar forest clearing and decided to head back to the castle. As he was walking, his instincts flared and he immediately ducked down.

"CRUCIO!" A spell that felt vile flew right over his red hair and slammed into the tree next to him. The wood immediately started rotting due to the dark magic. Jake turned around and saw three figures dressed in all black robes wearing silver masks that covered their faces completely.

Jake glared at the three robed men in front of him as he tensed up. He'd heard about that spell one of them just launched at his head. The Cruciatus Curse! Jake had heard from Harry that they learned about it in their Defense class this year and it was supposedly one of the three wizard spells that meant life in prison if used on a person…these three weren't here to mess around.

"Who the fuck are you assholes, and what's with the stupid-ass masks. You look like some discount V for Vendetta posers," Jake said, looking at their ridiculous outfits.

"Our glorious master designed these outfits himself to inflict maximum fear, you ignorant little Mudblood," the skinniest of the three shouted out. He had the voice and the build of an adult man. The other two silver-masked men were very large. Either they were jacked under those robes, or they were just fat…

"Who cares anyway, Nott? We've been sent here to torture and kill him, so let's just do it already," one of the two larger men said.

"Don't say my name, you brutish moron!" The masked man apparently named Nott shouted.

"What does it matter, we're gonna kill him!"

Apparently, Jake had an actual hit put out on him. That made him nervous. Even if they looked like idiots, this was clearly three grown men sent out to kill him, a teenager. Jake couldn't have pissed off someone so badly that they'd sent a literal masked gang squad after him, could he? Oh, right... Malfoy. Was he that petty to hire literal assassins? Well, since they were right in front of him, Jake figured that apparently he was.

"It's time to die, boy!" The three of them all pointed their wands at Jake and fired three more Cruciatus curses at him at once. The Gremory magic circle formed before Jake's hands as he deployed an ice shield to block the curses. The three Unforgivables smashed into the wall of ice, not doing more than leaving some hairline cracks.

"What? That's impossible!"

"How did his shield block an Unforgivable!?"

"This boy is going to be too dangerous in the future! Spread out, we have to kill him now!" Nott screamed out the famous Xianxia line. Causing Jake to chuckle a bit despite the tense situation.

Before the three of them could get the chance to surround him, Jake fired a Bombarda Maxima right at the ground between them.

BOOM!

A huge explosion, caused by the upgraded spell, kicked up a massive amount of dust into the air, completely blocking everyone's vision.

"Shit, I can't see anything," Big Guy One said.

"Why the hell was that spell so powerful?!" Big Guy Two asked.

"Who cares, just spread out and find him! He fired the spell at the ground and not us for a reason. The cowardly boy is too afraid to take a life! Just like Dumbledore's secret club in the last war!" Nott shouted out arrogantly.

Meanwhile, Jake, who had hidden back in the treeline, heard everything they said. Was he too afraid to take a life? He didn't have a problem with trying to kill that dragon, but that wasn't exactly a person…

Jake honestly didn't know the answer. Jake figured that Malfoy, or more likely his father, had hired these men to kill him and they weren't going to stop. Could Jake just escape right now? Probably, but he was afraid Malfoy would instead send these men after one of his friends next just to hurt him… "What if…what if he sent them after Luna to hurt Jake?" He thought to himself. He absolutely would not let that happen! He would kill them first!

Unbeknownst to Jake, something inside him was stirring awake at those dark thoughts of his friend being harmed. Something that had absolutely nothing to do with his Solomon bloodline.

"I won't let them..." Jake muttered to himself quietly.

This was something darker, something that all devils discover about themselves at some point…

"I won't let them, I'm going to..." Jake spoke a bit louder this time.

It was his devil's sin that was awakening for the first time! Every single devil leaned towards one of the seven deadly sins and they would have to constantly manage their sin, lest they lose control over themselves!

"I won't let them, I'm going to kill you all!" Jake shouted out! His voice was full of …wrath!

Jake's devil wings sprang from his back and his blue eyes took on a red tint. He launched himself from the treeline he'd hidden in, forming an ice spear in his hand. He flew right towards one of the larger masked men who had split from the others as they searched the nearby woods for where Jake was hiding.

"I found him—oh god, what is he!" The man screamed out as Jake flew with devil wings towards him, icy spear in hand with his now glowing red eyes. To the man, Jake looked like a monster!

"Die!" Jake shouted as he drew close enough and hurled his ice spear with tremendous speed right at the man.

Somehow, despite his large size, the man dodged out of the way right before the flying spear impaled him. BOOM! The still-flying spear obliterated the tree behind him and continued on to smash through almost a dozen more before it stopped.

The man gulped to himself as he turned and looked at the devastation of that one attack. "What kind of monster have we provoked..." He whispered to himself in fear. A blade made of ice erupted right out of the man's chest!

"You shouldn't have looked away!" Jake said angrily as he was gripping an ice blade that had impaled the man right through his back and out his chest.

"D-demon..." The large masked man said right before he passed and collapsed.

"Close enough, I suppose," Jake said, ripping the now blood-soaked blade out of the corpse.
