11 Aegis, the Judgment Knight

Words: 1452

This is the only chapter for today. Sorry guys. I did a math test, and that shit drained my soul.

I should be fine writing 2-3 chapters tomorrow, though.

Enjoy the chapter!

...

Aegis gripped Luminous Blaze before launching himself toward the fallen angels.

His two orders were to protect his master, Asia Argento, and purge the world of the sinful creatures known as Fallen Angels, the latter of which he had experience with.

As a Paladin of the Holy Church, he killed more evil creatures than he could remember. Although his mind was eroded, his focus remained.

He was like a Berserker from Fate without the Madness Enhancement.

Asia watched the paladin crush the floor below him with the raw strength of his leap. Seeing that he was also a piece of armor with a soul attached to it, his body flew straight to the ground after he tried to launch an aerial assault on the fallen angels.

There were several web-like cracks on the street and two big holes where Aegis's feet landed.

'How much money is that going to take to fix?' The blonde-haired nun suddenly felt the pain of civilians living in anime or comic book worlds. They would have their properties constantly destroyed and must spend copious amounts of money fixing them.

She sighed but continued to watch Aegis charge his way into the fray of battle. His body was illuminated with a holy light that caused the darkness around him to turn to day.

However, the black mist still leaked from his armor, a grim reminder that he was no longer a pure paladin. It didn't matter to him as long as he rid the world of its evils. No matter his form, he was still a paladin at heart and a believer in soul.

[Aegis has activated Crusade Against Evil]

[Strength: Ultimate-Class (Tier 1→2)]

[Agility: High-Class (Tier 3)→Ultimate-Class (Tier 1)]

[Endurance: Ultimate-Class (Tier 1→2)]

 [Magic: High-Class (Tier 2→3)]

The several fallen angels that were attacking him grimaced. They knew they were fighting a holy madman, a fanatic of the sacred belief.

Either they would die, or he would die.

The leading fallen angel shouted at his men, "Establish the encirclement!"

Black wings flapped as they surrounded Aegis while holding their light spears. Simultaneously, they all lobbed their light spears toward Aegis, who only stood there with his holy radiance.

The light spears were close to hitting the paladin, but the holy aura around him began to enlarge. The light spears began to dissipate into light particles, making the fallen angel's eyes widen in fear.

"Argh!"

Suddenly, a fallen angel plummeted to the ground with a bloody hole in his chest.

Asia pointed the light gun she received from Griselda at the fallen angels. Gwendolyn's Promise glowed with a holy light as she activated Holy Aura.

The gun in her hand was enchanted with holy power as she fired a large, condensed bullet at the group. It had exploded in between all of them, causing them to separate.

"Ignore the templar! Attack the girl!" the leading fallen angel barked commands before he witnessed two more of his men being fired down from the sky.

After practicing with Griselda, Asia had reached a decent level of accuracy. Coupled with her Holy Aura gained from Gwendolyn's Promise, she was sure she could take out most fallen angels at a distance.

Aegis let out another roar as he leaped into the sky with full force. Luminous Blaze was engulfed with a holy light as he swung down at the fallen angel commander.

The fallen angel gritted his teeth as he summoned his light spear, blocking the attack with difficulty. He was slammed straight into the ground, creating a crater and a large dust cloud.

"Shit!" He had lost sight of Aegis as a fist instantly cleared the dust. Blood covered Aegis's gauntlet as the revenant slammed his fist straight into the fallen angel's face.

The paladin received orders from Asia not to kill the fallen angels. It was a lot better for them to turn them into Grigori. While they wouldn't get any hate for killing the fallen angels because they had gone rogue, Asia thought it better to build up a relationship with Grigori to turn in traitors.

Azazel probably knew of Kokabiel's betrayal by now since there were more instances of fallen angels going rogue.

"A…" The fallen angel commander groaned, his face smashed into bits by Aegis. His body was soon covered by chains created by holy light. Asia took care of The other fallen angels, who had her stats increased by Crusade Against Evil and Holy Aura.

She dragged all of the fallen angels together and created many chains that bound the fallen angels. Aegis stood beside the fallen angels with his aura activated for safe measures.

They couldn't conjure any light weapons, as Aegis's aura would overpower their weaker levels of holy power.

The next thing to do was to call Griselda or wait for the devils to arrive. The female exorcist had bought Asia a phone with her number saved on it.

Asia was surprised that the Vatican even used phones, but Griselda said they might have been old-fashioned, but they were still keeping up with the modern world.

Aegis's existence would have been revealed, but it didn't matter much. Asia could always spin a type of story.

The paladin was almost like a stereotypical church fanatic. He could easily pass off as a member of the Vatican sent to protect Asia.

Griselda might find it a bit suspicious, but Asia would need to deal with that later.

For now, she only wanted to scam Grigori for some favors. Azazel was known as a genius inventor; who knows what he could have that would be useful?

...

"So… You're telling me a group of rogue fallen angels attacked your home in an assassination attempt?" Rias looked at the innocent-looking nun, who nodded like a little chipmunk.

"I see. I'll have your home fixed by tonight," The crimson-haired beauty sighed and looked at the damaged ruins of the house and streets. She had sensed a battle going on, but it had ended as quickly as it began.

Sona had also sensed it, appearing at the scene earlier than she did. She and her peerage were watching the fallen angels alongside Rias's peerage. The bespectacled girl greeted Asia but didn't converse with her since Rias was more familiar with the blonde-haired nun.

Rias's eyes shot to the giant knight, who stood silently behind Asia. She could feel the strength radiating off of his body, one that was lethal to her. While he wasn't exactly the strongest being she had seen, his holy power was likely on par with high-ranking Vatican members.

"Hmm, Asia. Who might this knight be?" Rias kept a polite attitude towards Asia, at least the politest she could muster. Her brother told her that Asia might be the key to bridging the relationship between Heaven and the Underworld.

The more radical devils might disagree, but Sirzechs knew unity was better than separation. Heaven, the Underworld, and Grigori were all a part of the Biblical Factions.

Their strength was considered top-tier amongst the other mythologies and pantheons, but that didn't stop them from being threatened. Sirzechs believed it would be better if the Bibical Factions could create some peace treaty that allowed all of them to prosper somehow.

Thus, Rias was trying to be as friendly to Asia as possible. At first, it was only at her brother's request, but something about the nun made her want to pamper her.

This statement was shared by Akeno too.

"Ah! This is my protector and guardian knight, Aegis," Asia spoke excitedly. She smiled at Aegis, who pressed his hand against his chest and bowed slightly.

The paladin didn't speak, which made Rias slightly unsettled by the man, but it was likely due to his holy aura.

"Thank you for protecting Asia and our town, Sir Aegis," The crimson-haired heiress bowed back at the paladin, who nodded. She turned her attention to the fallen angels bound by holy chains, which Akeno seemed to find amusing and arousing.

"What is your plan with these fallen angels?" Generally speaking, they trespassed on her territory, but Asia and Aegis took them down.

"We're going to turn them into Grigori," Asia said, looking at the fallen angels with a saddened expression.

"They are simply people who have lost their way. Lord Azazel's decision is up to him. After all, they were once his brethren and trusted comrades."

Rias nodded. She understood what Asia was trying to do. They seemed to have the same goals, but Asia seemed purer than hers.

It was in a devil's nature to be selfish and greedy, but the nun before her could do no wrong.

She would likely be the one who bridged all the three factions together.
