1 A Memoryless Transmigration

Word: 2516

...

It felt cold, almost chilling to the bones… If I had any left.

Who would have thought the afterlife would have been an endless abyss of forever wandering? Well, checkmate religious people. I was never religious, but I thought the afterlife would be refreshing.

So, how did I die? For some odd reason, I could barely make up any memories of my life. Every time I tried, I felt a feeling of loss and confusion. Was this void withering away my sense of existence?

It's no wonder it feels cold. I'm not just lost; I'm slowly dissolving into nothingness and reverting to a primal state of being.

That was until I heard a voice in my head.

[System Configuration Optimized…]

[Choosing a System for the Host…]

[Summoner System has been chosen]

[Summoner System has been bound to Host]

A system? What was that again? Hmm, I remember such a concept. Wasn't that a thing that most protagonists get? Am I going to be reincarnated?

My question was soon answered.

[The Host is correct.]

[Please choose between the four.]

[Harry Potter / Highschool DxD / Rwby / Marvel/DC World]

Aren't these fictional worlds? Ah, what were they about again? I tried to recall all of the fragmented memories in my mind. They surprisingly were clearer than usual!

Was the System reestablishing my sense of existence? But I still couldn't remember my name. I also couldn't remember the way I died either…

How weird.

Ah, it doesn't matter. I should choose a world.

This situation reminded me of fanfiction protagonists who would be reincarnated in a fictional world with an overpowered ability.

Looking through my four options, I ruled out the Marvel/DC world. Both fictional worlds had deities that could erase me with a single thought! I was not choosing a superhero world where my livelihood would be endangered because a villain attacks a city, and the superheroes accidentally destroy everything.

So that leaves me with Harry Potter, Highschool DxD, and Rwby. Hmm, Rwby doesn't seem that interesting compared to the other two. I've never really watched the show and only heard the tidbits of having a scythe that's also a gun.

Harry Potter had magic, and DxD had less overpowered mythology beings than Marvel/DC.

I wasn't opposed to a challenge, so I chose DxD. Harry Potter would require me to learn a whole new system of magic, which wouldn't be fun for a lazy person like me.

[Highschool DxD has been chosen.]

[Please select a method of Reincarnation/Transmigration]

[Reincarnation: You are born again, but your situation is randomized.]

[Transmigration: You possess a random character's body, but the person is random.]

[Outsider: Your original body is sent into the world without any past history.]

Well…

I don't want to live another 20 or so years, and my original body isn't that appealing. So! Transmigration.

[Transmigration has been chosen.]

[Please prepare…]

I smiled, or instead smiled with my soul, as I watched the System count down. The excitement in my soul couldn't be contained as I remembered my past.

The monotonous life that I had lived will now be forever changed!

Haha! Let's hope I don't get a character doomed to fall…

Warm…

It felt warm.

Was my transmigration a success? I opened my eyes to see a simple room. There were a few simple decorations, mostly religious things like crosses and paintings of Jesus.

Ah, who did I become? I spotted a mirror in the corner of the room as I threw the blanket sheets off my body. My skin was milky white and super smooth, revealing its vitality. I was a young female…

Dammit. I was a male, so this was awkward, but it didn't matter! The prospects of strength do not discriminate! But I will not be dating any men in the future.

As a former boy, I shall be dating women! What was it called again? Yuri? Ah, yes, that.

But oddly, I didn't feel any strange feelings from possessing an entirely different body. It was more of an estranged sense of being from myself. Maybe the distanced memories and how I don't remember my own name or death help.

"I've definitely become a smaller person," I muttered, hearing the sound of my new voice for the first time. It was feminine but also cutesy with a hint of innocence.

The voice sounded familiar to a blonde nun in DxD. Don't tell me…

I grasped my hair and saw the light blonde locks of beautiful hair in my hands. I knew who I had become, but I walked towards the mirror and stared at it to make sure.

Long blonde hair flowing down towards my back with split bangs and a singular strand sticking out? Check.

A cute pair of green eyes? Check.

A petite and innocent-looking appearance? Check.

Old fashion nun clothing? Check.

Yup, I'm Asia Argento, the former Holy Maiden tricked by a devil into healing him, resulting in her exile. She was an innocent person met with a tragic fate.

She had died once and was reincarnated as a member of Rias's peerage, the main heroine of DxD. Her power, or Sacred Gear, Twilight Healing, could heal any being, which allowed her to heal a devil.

I rubbed the soft face in the mirror somberly, "I'll make sure you live a good life this time."

Seeing as I robbed her body, I might as well make my or our lives the best!

System, you there?

[I am.]

[What can I help the Host with?]

Can you tell me your functions? I assume it has something to do with summoning.

[Gladly! My function is Summoning.]

[The Host can use a Daily Summon that resets at 12:00 P: M or midnight to summon three different things: Items, Skills, and Followers]

[Items are self-explanatory. They are things from all over the multiverse. They can be from your favorite anime or an unknown world you don't know of.]

[Skills are split into two different categories. Unique Skills and plain ol' Skills. Unique skills can only be used by a single person or learned via unique methods, while anyone can learn skills.]

[Followers are beings summoned from the multiverse. They are completely loyal to you, but how they show their favorability for you differs with each Follower.]

I see… You're just a Gacha System! Except I don't need to spend my entire savings, which makes it depend on my luck and RNGesus.

Well, it can't be helped. Can I use my Daily Summon now? Oh, wait, before that, is there a Status screen? As I asked my question, a blue panel appeared before my ears, displaying a full-body model of myself on the right and a list of my stats and skills on the left.

[Name: Asia Argento (Human)]

[Age: 17]

[Strength: Human] / [Agility: Human] / [Endurance: Human] / [Magic: Low-Class (Tier 3)]

[Skill(s)]:

Minor Magic Mastery: As someone who has possessed the body of Asia Argento without any of her memories, you do not possess the same magical prowess as her. Your Magic Stat is only high due to her innate potential

Dragon Tamer: Asia Argento is innately capable of draconic beings, allowing her to tame even the rowdiest creatures.

Innocence: While you might not be as innocent as the original Asia, you still hold the aura level as she did. You passively charm people who want to protect you and pamper you.

Follower's Link: After successfully summoning a Follower, you can randomly copy one of their skills or stats. Can be upgraded by summoning required upgrade materials. (0/1) Followers Linked.

[Item(s)]:

Twilight Healing (Sacred Gear): The Sacred Gear of Asia Argento, a gift from the Biblical God to humans to have a chance against the supernatural. It has also become a curse to many. Twilight Healing can heal any being the user wants but can only heal injuries.

Um, well, my physical stats are garbage, but that's granted. Asia was a bishop and a more talented person on the magical side. I didn't think my physical status was even high.

How does the ranking work?

[The ranking is based on the Dxd tiering system. It goes from Human, the weakest, to Dragon God, the highest.]

[Each ranking is split into Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3. These are the primary classifications of strength in their respective realms. Tier 1 is the weakest, Tier 2 is the middle, and Tier 3 is the strongest.]

[An example would be Rias, a Tier 1 High-Class Devil, while Riser is a Tier 3 High-Class Devil.]

[AN: To be honest, trying to power scale is annoying. I'm not going to put too much thought into it. If anyone has a good idea on how to scale DxD powers other than the Devil's ranking, please comment.]

I see… My stats are entirely average for a human other than my magic. Hmm, well, I can work with that. A magic-based build seems to be what I'll be focusing on.

Anyway, let's get started with this Daily Summoning! I hope it's a Follower so I can use the Follower's Link. I called upon the Daily Summoning, but there were no flashy effects.

It was simply just a blue panel telling me what I got. But there was something good.

[As this is your first summoning ever, your luck has been increased]

[You have summoned…]

[Follower: Aegis]

[Title: Judgment Knight, Paladin of the Holy Church, Dawn's Light]

[Rank: Ultimate-Class (Tier 1)]

[Race: Undead, Revenant]

[Stats]:

[Strength: Ultimate-Class (Tier 1)] / [Agility: High-Class (Tier 3)] / [Endurance: Ultimate-Class (Tier 1)] / [Magic: High-Class (Tier 2)]

[Skill(s)]:

Holy Aura: Holy Aura is the most basic skill of the Paladins of the Holy Church. It allows them to conjure weapons of light, enchant their weapons and bodies, or simply fire attacks to kill heretics.

Crusade Against Evil: Aegis is a paladin who dedicated his life to purging all evil in the world where he lived. Against beings he deems evil, his stats increase by one-tier.

Revenge: Due to becoming a revenant due to his desire for revenge during his death, Aegis can reflect the damage of a singular attack that does not exceed his own strength.

Judgment of God: Aegis can call down a holy sword created from holy energy to smite down his enemies. It does extra damage to evil beings.

[Item(s)]:

Luminous Blaze: A sword forged by one of the best dwarves in Aegis's world. It was later blessed by a holy ritual, making it a holy sword. It does extra damage to evil beings and can charge holy energy into its blade to fire off like a projectile attack.

A white card with angelic golden borders floated down before me. This was a Follower Card, which allowed me to summon my Follower or see their general stats and skills.

On the front of the card was the illustration of a knight wearing pure white armor with a red cross on his chest. He had a red cape draped over his shoulders that drifted in the wind.

Strapped to his waist was a golden sword with a pure white handle. The sword's blade radiated a golden aura, and a red gem was etched into the middle of the guard.

Under the sunlight, it shimmered with a holy radiance, signifying the knight's identity.

Most people would assume that this was a holy knight. If not for the knight holding his helmet, revealing a black mist that flowed out of the armor.

He seems strong. Thanks, System, for the increased luck! I smiled with glee as I looked over my new Follower.

A paladin who has become a revenant? I wonder what happened for such a holy person to become a vengeful spirit.

Well, it doesn't seem important if the System doesn't mention it.

Wait, never mind, there's extra information on the back of the card.

[Aegis was once a high-ranking member of the Church of Purelight. He was a man with a pure heart and a determination to purge all evil. The higher-ups of the Church ordered Aegis to slaughter a village accused of following demons. After learning of the village's innocence, Aegis fought the Church to save the village.]

[The once holy paladin fell in battle and became a Revenant, gaining an obsession with revenge against those who fake their holiness.]

Hmm, what a sad backstory. A man who wanted to protect an innocent village because of his pure heart. Well, Aegis, you might get your wish because the Vatican in DxD has many corrupt priests.

This was a church run by men after God's death. The angels might have interfered a bit with the running of the Church, but they usually stayed in Heaven.

The Vatican was more corrupt and evil than it seemed. Even Asia, a poor little nun once declared a Holy Maiden, was exiled because she healed a devil. While this might have been seen as treason because devils are evil creatures, it also showed her compassion and kindness.

Speaking of which, what timeline am I in?

The first time Asia was shown in the DxD anime was when Issei Hyoudou encountered her at a park. She slipped and accidentally revealed her panties to him.

Typical Ecchi Harem stuff.

It might have happened already, or it might not. I could also still be a part of the Church and have yet to be exiled because of DIodora. Raynare and her group might also escort me to have my Sacred Gear extracted using the tool Azazel made.

Either way, all of the possibilities were quite terrible.

Kuoh Town was Japan's festering zone.

Anyone who watched DxD or read fanfiction knew that the place was terrible. Two Devil Kings sisters lived there: one a stuck-up princess and the other… I don't remember much about Sona besides her having a hot older sister.

I'm surprised the Japanese Pantheon let them freely rule over one of their towns.

Granted, they could have made a deal with the devils, but neither Rias nor Sona were the original owners. Wasn't it Clara? Claire? Clark? Ah, it was someone with the last name Belial and the sister of the Peerage Game champion.

I don't remember what happened to her, but Serafall and Sirzechs took the territory from her. Being a nun and a former member of the Church, going to Kuoh Town was like asking for death.

"Oi, Asia. Are you awake? Raynare wants to see you," There was a knock at my door as I registered the sound of the voice. I don't recall hearing this voice, but I could have forgotten it.

But I know who Raynare was. She's a Fallen Angel and the leader of a small ragtag group that killed Issei Hyoudou, the protagonist of DxD. She was also the one who killed me and probably made me work under Freed, that cracked-out bastard of a priest.

"Ah! I am. Please wait a moment." I tried acting as much like Asia as possible, innocent and shy. My soul possessed Asia's body. Other than remembering how she acted, I could easily fool them.

I stared at the door for a moment and took a deep breath. Aegis's card floated above the palm of my hand as I used Follower's Link on him.
