Chapter 9 – Quarter of the White Soldiers.

After all the villagers were rescued and the remaining forces of the Blood Servants defeated the white soldiers battalion reinforcement group came to the village and provided medical care to the villagers. In the days that followed, more groups came to the village and helped with the reconstruction. In the meantime Motohama informed his "father" that he would become a disciple of the commander of the white soldiers' battalion and therefore would have to leave the village and go to the White Soldiers' headquarters to receive his training. His father then revealed to him that he himself was once a quincy in the past before he lost his powers. Apparently the person Motohama was representing lost her mother in childbirth, but the reason was because she had a very weak body since she was hurt by a lost demon. From what his father told him, he sacrificed his powers in order to save Motohama's mother and defeat the lost demon. So Motohama's father entrusted him with his diary containing the techniques he had created and two books of spiritual spells that were passed down to his family.

In the days that passed until his departure, Motohama studied his father's books and diaries. His father's techniques seemed to be mixtures of technique and magic. Motohama could see the potential of those techniques and with his skill he started to correct their mistakes. Weapon ideas had... potential. The world inside the simulation did not have a great technological advance and with that many of the ideas would be difficult to put into practice. However Motohama had to admit that the idea of putting crystals in weapons to utilize the energy stored inside the crystal was a very good one. With that the weapon user would spend a minimal amount to activate the weapons and could focus the energy saved on other things. In addition, if the user spent all their energy, the crystal could still have energy left over for surprise attacks. Other ideas, however... would be much more appreciated by people with similar tastes as Akeno.

When the day of departure arrived Motohama took his things (including the bags of coins he stole from the blood servants), said goodbye to the villagers and left together with the caravan made up of the battalion of white soldiers. The journey was incredibly quick as one of the quincys opened a portal made of light through which everyone could pass. Motohama found that portal very interesting as it was not a spell, nor a technique, but a special ability.

The headquarters of the White Soldiers was a large military base with high walls and several buildings of the most different types, from dormitories, academies, arsenals and so on. Before his training began, Motohama underwent tests which showed that he had the potential to be a Neo Quincy which made him have to participate in a ritual in which he drank a potion from a chalice. The potion's effect was less than what he'd taken in the real world, but the pain he felt in his body was equal. As proof of becoming a Neo quincy, Motohama was given a bracelet with a silver pendant shaped like a five-point cross called the Quincy Zeichen .

Motohama was put to sleep in one of the pavilions with dozens of other boys. Officially he would be receiving the normal training of a newly arrived recruit. As a special group, part of their training would be given by Commander Esther herself, who would teach them how to use the techniques and skills of a Neo Quincy. When he finished standard training he could become the commanding officer's official disciple.

The physical training that Motohama was forced to undergo... would make the Spartans feel on vacation. He started his physical training at five in the morning and would go until eight. From eight until eleven he would have theoretical classes. Then from eleven to one he would have martial arts classes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. While on Tuesdays and Thursdays he would receive training with normal weapons. From one to two he would have a lunch break followed by another two hours of physical training, from six to eight he would have two hours of meditation, from eight to nine he would have dinner break, from nine to eleven he would have classes theories about the use of spirit magic and lastly he would sleep for a few hours before starting all over again.

Motohama took full advantage of that phase of his training using his ability to learn as much as possible and in conjunction with that body's natural talent. He was clearly the best among the recruits.

Early weapons training had a greater focus on ranged weapons for a simple reason. Quincys weren't meant to have the same physical strength that many supernatural beings had. Quincys were energy manipulators using it for defense and offense. That's why the preference in the use of weapons was usually for long-range weapons.

In order for a quincy to focus on close-range combat he had to first train his body and control his reiki to the limit. That's why Motohama's first six months of training focused so much on strengthening his body, mind and controlling his spirit. Only after he passed the aptitude tests could he move on to the next phase of his training.

Physical approval required Motohama to pass a battery of physical tests before being approved. The reiki control test required him to use his reiki to light a special lamp and keep it on for at least ten minutes using as little energy as possible without letting it go out – he keeps it on for an hour. In the theory tests he got 100% correct on the questions.

Having been one of the few to have gone through the first phase of Motohama training, five more boys were transferred to a different dormitory where they were given their own rooms and given two days of rest before starting the second phase of their training. The commander would give them an hour of her time each morning from four to five in which she would teach them the techniques they should practice under an instructor's surveillance from five to seven, from seven to nine they would have physical training, from nine to eleven he would have theoretical classes, from eleven to one it would be martial arts focusing on the techniques learned from the commander in the morning on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. While on Tuesdays and Thursdays he would receive weapons training using reiki. Motohama was sitting in the front row of a classroom with the other five boys as he looked at Commander Esther sitting behind the teacher's desk. On the table was a bottle of liquor next to a glass of ice.

– You've already learned all the basic theory about how a quincy uses their powers, but we are Neo Quincy which makes us different than a regular quincy in many ways. You've learned a lot about what it means to be a quincy and the theory behind your powers. Now let's learn how to use your powers in practice as Neo Quincys. Neo Quincys are both quincys and fullbringer, but at the same time they are different from both. Can anyone tell me why? – asked the commander while pouring liquor into her glass.

Motohama was the first to raise his hand followed by the others. Esther pointed to Motohama giving permission for him to respond.

– The Quincys and Fullbringer both use the natural energy of the environment in conjunction with their spiritual powers, but at the same time the way they use it is completely different. Quincys unite natural energy with their spiritual energy giving rise to an energy called reiki. Fullbringer, however, use their spiritual energy to control and manipulate natural energy without combining them - Motohama said after standing with his arms crossed behind his back like a soldier.

– Nice answer. You can sit down. Fullbringers have a belief that everything has a soul be it the ground, earth, air and even objects. They believe that by using their powers they are controlling these souls. I believe that a practical demonstration is more interesting - said the commander pointing her index finger to the glass with liquor. The orange liqueur started to glow and rise, floating out of the glass and heading towards Esther who opened her mouth allowing the liqueur to enter her mouth drinking it. In the glass the only thing that was left were the ice cubes without leaving even a drop of liqueur - In the eyes of a Fullbringer I pulled the liqueur soul and manipulated it making the liqueur float.

The commander got to her feet and disappeared from where she was reappearing, leaning against the back door of the room.

– A Fullbringer would say I used the floor soul to propel me so I could move at high speed and get here. However I used my reiki releasing through the soles of my feet to propel me forward. I can also use my reiki... - said the commander disappearing making the boys look around looking for her until they saw her standing upside down on the ceiling at the front of the room - to fix myself on objects or run along a wall. I can also use it - said the commander welding herself from the ceiling starting to fall somersaulting in the air before stopping standing in the air causing a slight ripple of bluish energy below her - to stand in the air this way.

Everyone including Motohama looked at her with expressions mixing shock and excitement. Motohama using her ability could see perfectly all Esther's movements, whether using her body's reiki releasing it through the soles of her feet catapulting her in the direction she wanted with surprising grace and lightness or fixing her to the ceiling. For the others apart from the ripple of energy she had emitted when she stopped standing in the air, there had been no other ripples of energy, but Motohama could see that they were still occurring, but they were so discreet that a normal person wouldn't be able to see them.

– As Neo Quincys our techniques and abilities have different names than those used by quincys and fullbringer. The first technique I used to move with speed is called Accel Turn, the one I used to stick to the ceiling is called Climb . The technique used to walk on water is called Water step . And lastly the one I'm using to stand in midair is called Moon Walk. You will study the manuals that are on your desks and over the next few weeks you should learn in sequence how to run, walk on wall, walk on water, walk on air and finally use these techniques at the same time if you need to. Those who fail to master these techniques in a month will be sent back to the previous phase - Esther said seriously, standing in midair as if it was nothing - you are training here to be the protectors of humanity so don't expect us to catch you by the hand and help them in any difficulty.

Motohama knew he would have to put in 120% effort if he wanted to master those techniques in such a short time. His skill would help him, but he had little time to master three techniques that required very precise control of energy.

– Ah yes… in the afternoon at the martial arts session… Hahaha … I think I'll take some time to watch it hahaha … it's always really fun to see that hahahaha – Commander Esther said, laughing in a way which made the boys feel that there was some malice emanating from her.

Motohama had a bad feeling about that.
