Tomorrow's Worry

It's been 37 years since the aliens left. They attacked and defeated Earth in 18 days. They brought machines to extract our resources and animals to control us. 90 days later, they were gone. I'd like to say humanity stood up and drove them out, but I can't. That would be a lie. They just left. Nobody knows why. They left all the equipment which was built with unknown metals, and all the animals stayed also. But the worst thing they left was the fear. Population was down 98% by either death or just taken away. They beat us so easily, and we don't even know if they're coming back or not. Some think it was the government that drove them away. Smarter people wonder if there's more to it. The way they came and left, it only makes sense if it was planned and organized. But who could possibly plan something so terrible against mankind? Most people don't care anyway. They don't even think about such things. The government will protect them. When the aliens came, most of the landings were around large bodies of water, so people tend to avoid the water. The last 12 cities in the world populate almost everyone far away from the oceans. There's a few brave people that live outside the cities either on their own or in small communities (usually underground), but most people like to be around others for safety, although you can't trust anyone. Darnian is different though. He wants to unite humanity and make everyone stronger just in case they do come back. Together we can beat them, but if we continue in our greed, they will only beat us again if they come back. It's greed that brought humanity to its knees before, so we have to overcome it this time.
