Dungeon Master Online

in the future, the biggest gaming company Argus releases their newest game [Dungeon Master Online]. In this game rather than conquering dungeons players are tasked with making and defending a dungeon that is essentially their lifeline, without it death is permanent and they have to start over. Disclaimer: I do not own the image and the MC will get relatively powerful relatively fast. so if you don't like that leave before complaining, but I will take valid criticism of making my stat boosts too big. In that case, I won't hand one out for a few levels. also, suggestions, if made in the comments the day a chapter is written, won't be taken as I write all my chapters t once in chunks of five a week to be posted through the week, however, the last chapter in a chunk will take suggestions, also shorter pieces are made if I need community feedback sooner than expected and will lead into larger ones which will be five chapters long plus whatever is left of the last chunk.

Repair Work

A short time later, Smaug and Rainha arrive at a small open area in the corner of town that is still within the walls, with very few buildings within the surroundings. They came upon a small hill on top of which was a small church, very different from the ones found on earth but still very similar. The roof was much like any other house, but at the back, there was a spire that didn't have any space for a person but there was a bell on top, with a string attached that ran into the inside of the building. However, beyond the off-white exterior and shape, there was nothing else familiar to either Smaug or Rainha from the symbolism to even the name.

[Church of the Heavenly Father]

Walking up to the front Smaug and Rainha, knocked on the door, and then an old man opened the door. He was wearing a brown robe and around his neck was a silver charm that appeared to depict something that resembled the sun. As he started talking, the old man came outside and started leading them around the church and showed them which part of the fence needed to be fixed.

"Ahh, you must be here to fix the fence, I already have the stuff you need over there."

The old man pointed towards the hole in the fence where a small toolbox was sitting on top of a pile of wooden planks.

"I thank you when you become my old age, well… there are some things you just shouldn't do if you want to live a full life, haha. By the way, might I get your names?"

"Ah yes, no problem, I'm Smaug."

"And you can call me Rainha."

"Ah, Call me Hanz, I know it sounds like a prince's name I've heard it a million times. But believe it or not, I used to look like a prince, the girls my age all wanted to know me, and some men too. But as you can see I did not age well."

Smaug and Rainha silently looked at each other, they didn't know if they should feel sorry for the old guy or what. That's when Rainha spoke up.

"Wel…. we're going to fix up that fence and finish the job."

Once they got started, Smaug and Rainha quickly realized that this job would be a lot more tricky than they thought. Firstly the ground was unstable, both covered in hard rocks and extremely loose and soft dirt. Without any clean-up, it'd be impossible to securely get the wood into the ground. Next, they noticed the fence surrounding the fence was in bad shape and was falling apart when they tried to attach the new boards to the old boards, meaning they had to replace everything that broke down.

While that was happening the old man was standing at the altar inside of his church, praying to his god, the Heavenly Father.

"Great Father, I ask you to investigate these new immortal warriors. Their names are Smaug, the dragon-born, and Rainha the fairy. I feel something about them is, hidden, a secret, a potentially evil secret. They know something about themselves that no one else does. A secret I fear would only harm this world, and maybe many more, if it isn't exposed soon."

Hanz silently stood, clutching his silver charmed necklace. After a few moments, his eyes widened in shock, even the flaps of skin covering his eyes lifted, showing the true terror in his eyes.

"W- w- what? What do you mean?! What do you mean you can't uncover their identities?"

That's when a great voice boomed within Hanz's head, a regular occurrence for him whenever he required guidance from the Heavenly Father.

"You are correct, as you know your connection to me allows you to peer very vaguely into the effects of the divine, and the hidden part of these immortals is protected from another god. But as all gods are equal within the heavens, unless I can get permission from the god who placed this protection, I won't be able to crack it for a million years. Something you may not know, however, is that the divine energy of a god is infinitely complex, and unlike mana, it acts uniquely. You can always decipher a mana array, just by knowing how it flows. Much like water, mana always flows in a predictable path. But divine energy acts uniquely from god to god. It can be more unpredictable than even the whims of a chaos god unless, of course, that divine energy is your own."

Hanz was silent for a moment but eventually responded. "I- I understand your greatness, thank you for confirming my suspicions of a secret at the very least."

As time passed, eventually Smaug and Rainha spent the entire day replacing essentially the entire fence around the entire property, since it was all crumbling at the slightest touch. Once they were done, Hanz approached them.

"Ahh, sorry about making you replace the whole thing. If I knew the whole fence needed to be replaced, I would have put up a higher reward. Here for your troubles, you can each take a silver on top of the quest reward when you give back the signed quest completed paper. By the way, do you mind handing over the request? I'll sign it right now while you two youngsters take a well-deserved break."

That's when Hanz produced two silver from under his robe. Putting them on his thumb, he flicked the coins into the sky causing them to do flips while in the air, landing separately in both of the open hands of Smaug and Rainha.

Then, Rainha and Smaug walked back to the guild. Once they arrived, they turned in the quest and received the reward money, shortly after Smaug handed over his one silver to Rainha, reducing the debt to 2 gold and 8 silver. He had also anded her 80 copper since the conversion rate from silver to copper is 1:10, he now only owes her 2 gold, but he is also dirt poor with 21 copper to his name.

On the plus side, he has received XP for finishing the request

[Request complete!]

[Help fix the churches's fence.

2 coppers (divided among the party)

10 XP each.

Your relationship with the guild has improved by one point.]

Then Rainha exclaimed "OH! I leveled up, now I'm level 5."

Smaug responded, "Nice, now we're the same level it seems."

They spent the next few hours walking around town, not buying anything since they were both broke. But talking to and seeing the wide variety of people and NPCs by itself was fun with the cool night air, pretty street lights, and non-polluted air, it felt like they were living in a new world, just as real as the real one, and on that was much healthier than earth.

Occasionally they would talk to an NPC, a peddler trying to sell them trinkets, a child thinking Rainha's wings were pretty, and her brother waning to see Smaug's breath attack, despite their parents asking them not to be rude, they couldn't help but humor him, giving him a small flame that couldn't do any real dangerous and didn't fly more than a few inches away from his mouth.

That night they found an extremely cheap inn. It offered nothing but a single cot and a candle in a tiny room, but it went for a measly 1 copper per night. Coincidentally it was right next to the Adventures Guild, so it was probably aimed at newbie adventures who would only be making a couple of coppers in a day. Right next to them, was also a store that sold very basic second-hand supplies and jerky also for dirt cheap prices, which Smaug was 99% sure owned by the same person but he had no proof other than a door that would lead to a solid wall unless there was also a door in the the inn.

Anyhow, now Smaug was lying on the cot, it was stiff and uncomfortable, but it was good enough, he just needed a place where he could "sleep" to log off safely, since according to other players when you log off outside of the dungeon, your body remains and can be attacked, while being unable to respond at all. There is also the option to sleep, and you will be able to wake up mid-nap, but it is super inefficient as opposed to sleeping in real life since you'll rest at the same rate as time outside of the game would goes, but time would pass fast in the game. Even if you sleep for a day straight, it'd be closer to taking a 15-minute nap.

However. Now that Smaug had that safe spot to sleep, he decided to log off for a bit and get something to eat, since he had come to realize his real-life body had started needing some food, he'd be back by morning anyway, probably.

I had a nice break last week, and am back writing full-length chapters again. Now that I am back, you can freely give me comments and power stones :3.
