Speculation; Beginner City

Raghav frowned as he witnessed the slime turning into a beam of light and entering his forehead.

He took a deep breath and sat back once again.

'Hmm, since I wasn't taken in that means I still have to explore the system myself.'

He calmed down from his previous excitement of taming his very first monster.

'Since commands like 'stats' and 'shop' have no effect, how about 'enter'?'

He directed his attention towards the connection he had with the slime monster, he immediately found that the other end of this connection leads him to his own forehead.

He lightly touched his forehead as his eyes shined.

'System, I want to enter the Evolution Site.'

Whoosh

He felt his vision change and found himself in a new world. Instead of a forest, he was standing on a concrete floor. He looked around and observed his surroundings.

He was standing near the foot of a pitch black metallic altar. The whole platform on which the Altar was erected on was raised by a flight of stairs. Surrounding the concrete platform was a plain filled with grass that exuded a sense of refreshment. A small pond could also be seen near the altar. It was the colour of the water in the pond that attracted Raghav's attention.

'Spiritual Qi?!!'

The water looked pure white that exuded a sense of holiness. What shocked Raghav was that the whole pond was filled with high concentration spiritual qi.

Spiritual Qi is a type of energy that is naturally found in nature. This energy is also the basis for all the immortal cultivation practices.

Near the spiritual pond, Raghav saw a blob of light-blue– The Slime. It was quietly placed near the pond and it remained unmoved. Unlike the beautiful scenery on the ground, the sky of this world was dark red in colour.

This site had a limited space and its total area was around 10 square kilometres in a circular shape. Outside this domain, the whole world turned pitch black, void of any existence.

He turned his attention to the altar to see thin golden engravings on its pitch black body. The engravings were really thin and even Raghav had a hard time finding it. The whole altar looked like a mini-skyscraper with a curved ending on the top. Above the pitch black altar, he could see a slash mark.

The moment his eyes landed on the mark, his eyes felt a stinging pain. He quickly closed his eyes but the pain didn't stop and he felt like his eyes were being continuously slashed. He quickly sat down and took out a medical vial and drank it. Even though he felt some cooling sensation flowing towards his eyes, it was suddenly slashed apart by a strange energy.

It was at this moment the altar shined for a moment and Raghav started to feel a little better.

After some time, Raghav could finally open his eyes. Even though the pain was reduced by a lot, he still felt some slight sting when he opened his eyes. This time, he didn't dare to look at the top part of the altar.

'Hmm, besides that murderous slash mark everything feels okay. So where is the system? Why was the slime brought here?' He couldn't help but doubt in his heart.

Except for the spiritual pond, only the Altar looked suspicious. He didn't bother the altar and moved near the spiritual pond. Such a density of spiritual qi can be regarded as an absolute treasure, it would be a shame if he didn't even take some 'minor' benefits after all the pain he is been through.

He sat near the slime and started to meditate. This session didn't take too long as he still didn't know if there was any kind of time flow mechanism in this place.

After ten minutes, he got up and looked at the slime that didn't have any intention of moving away from the pond. Raghav could feel his connection with the slime getting strengthened by a small amount as the slime tried to digest the little amount of spiritual qi.

Raghav didn't disturb the slime and walked back to the altar with a pondering expression.

He still didn't dare to touch the altar and quietly stood in front of it.

After thinking for some time he finally tried his only way to get out.

'System, I want to leave the evolution site. Raghav observed his surroundings intently and was surprised to see that it was the slash mark that flashed for a moment before he returned to the first floor of the dungeon.

He quickly scouted his surroundings to see that his sudden appearance wasn't leaked and then started to make his way towards

'Why would the slash mark activate when I called for the system?'

'Even the altar was damaged by the slash mark and looking at the intensity of the slash mark, it could be said that the individual who slashed at the altar didn't have any good intentions towards it. It is safe to say that the altar is a different entity.'

Raghav's mind flashed countless thoughts. He still couldn't determine the truth of the matter and could only speculate on the clues presented in front of him.

'Wait a minute. Why should I even believe that it is the same system as those Goldfinger novels?'

He suddenly questioned the entire foundation on which he was speculating.

From the start till now, it could be said that it was the strange voice inside his head speaking and stating itself as a system. But it never answered any of his questions.

And then there was that beam of light that entered the golden cloud during the rite of passage. Even though he got a pretty sweet ability because of its interruption, who's to say that the strange entity didn't profit from the situation.

Raghav was well aware that there wasn't any free lunch in the real world. He was willing to believe that the altar inside him might be something good, but he wasn't willing to believe in a strange consciousness lurking inside his mind.

'Sigh, what troubles did I get myself into.'

He suddenly felt a very bad feeling from his guts as he processed the whole situation.

********

While on his way, Raghav kept on experimenting with the so-called system and quickly found out that there wasn't any difference in the flow of time in the evolution site as compared to the real world. But he still couldn't gain any insights into the real situation. It was the same as before, the strange slash mark would shine before sending him back to the real world.

It was already night in the dungeon but Raghav kept on rushing towards the predetermined direction.

After another hour, he finally saw a glimpse of a large city that was filled with light and life.

He finally arrived at his destination— The Beginner City.
