14 Four Avatars Part IV

“I want to take the Job Quest,” Tan asked.

The NPC looked at Tan from head to toe. “You want to take the Job Quest? What level are you at now?” He asked with a shaky voice.

“29,” replied Tan.

“Hmm…Are you sure? Once you take the quest, you will be sent to Crystal Castle, the quest location. You can only escape there when you have completed the quest or die,” explained the NPC.

Tan thought about handling a dozen monsters, which was not going to take him long. When he was done with this, he planned to log out for a while and then came back before the tournament started.

“Fine by me,” he said.

The elder nodded. “Young lads nowadays are brave. Hit the Accept button to take the quest.” After the NPC explained the details, the button appeared on a screen before Tan, and of course, he hit accept right away. The system repeatedly warned him three times, but he went through with it without reading the details of the quest.

“Good luck, young lad…” Tan heard the voice as the teleporting light emerged. He appeared again inside an enormous castle built with clear crystals.

Player Tanthai has accepted a quest to advance the player’s Job. The quest will be completed when the player successfully defeats a level 70, Dimension Dragon…

“What…?!” Tan shouted. His voice kept resonating inside the castle. “Didn’t they tell me that I have to kill a dozen of level 15-16 monsters? Why did my target become a level 70 dragon!”

Tan turned around nervously. He found himself in an empty hall, with only a big door behind him and three small doors in front. He had tried to open the door behind him but to no avail, leaving him with no choice but to go with the doors in front.

He gently pushed the middle door open. As his gaze landed inside, the door was slammed closed almost immediately after seeing monsters rushing towards him. He then hollered as usual.

“What…! The hell is this? What are those giant lizard monsters rambling inside that small room!?” He yelled as he closed the door. It seemed like those giant monsters, which were three times bigger than the door, did not want to chase after him, but the system announced that he had run into monsters.

Player Tanthai has encountered 7-star, level 51, Crystal Lizard A B C D E!

The battle screen popped up even though the door had already shut, and the monsters had not left the room. Three minutes later, the battle screen then disappeared…

“Blanche! Hey…Blanche! Can you hear me?” He called his friend who was still active in the game, but there was no reply. “Nicki! Nicki, can you hear me?!” He tried again but to no avail. That made him sink to the floor at the large pillar near the door.

“Perhaps I have to die to get back to the town…” He muttered, then sighed.

He pondered for a while, then something popped up in his mind… “That card! The card I took away from the knight I beat at the first village!” His eyes widened. He pulled out the card and examined it. There was a huge grin on his face as he saw the card—the one he picked when he won the battle against the copper armor knight because it had the highest number of stars—a magic card, Taunt Warrior.

“We’ll see…” He murmured and began rearranging his deck. He added the card and a magic card he got his hand on when he traveled to Caldia. He examined his status again.

After completing his preparation, the first thing he did was to prove his hypothesis. Tan walked towards the door and opened it. The monsters of three feet tall were there. The system made an announcement as soon as the monsters saw Tan.

Player Tanthai has encountered 7-star, level 51, Crystal Lizard A B C D E!

The lizard-like monsters with crystallized bodies charged towards him almost immediately. Tan quickly slammed the door shut.

“SLAM!”

He eyed the door. There were not any forms of attacks followed. After realizing what had happened, he then looked at the battle screen. A set of seven cards was drawn, and the system stated that he was still in a battle.

“HAHAHAHA! You all are going to hell!” He said with an evil smile on his face.

Tan walked away from the door. After three minutes had passed, the system then announced that he was out of the battle.

Hearing what the system said, he walked up and opened the door again. It was the same as the last time—he entered a battle, then seven cards were randomly drawn, and of course…he shut the door.

Two minutes went by…the system had confirmed that he was still in the battle. A card was drawn every minute, but the card he longed for had not shown up yet. Tan opened the door again. The Crystal Lizards inside were ready to attack, and as before, he closed the door.

Another two minutes passed…but the system still stated he was still in the battle.

“That proves I’m right,” he said. “I must draw the card and pray that it’s going to work…” He walked away from the door as he murmured to himself, then waited for three minutes until the battle had called off.

“There’s about 10% chance I can draw that card at the beginning.” He calculated.

Tan took a deep breath and put his hand on the door before finally opening it!

Crystal Lizard A B C D and E has appeared!

The system announced that he had entered battle mode. Seven cards were drawn, one of them was the card he took away from the copper armor knight, Taunt Warrior. After noticing the card, he immediately activated it…

“Magic!”

As the voice rang out, 4 MP from 20 and 2 SP from 4 were consumed, then a purple and green warrior puppet emerged. The five lizards inside the small room drew attention to the puppet and immediately charged towards it.

“Fifty-Fifty,” Tan said as he kept his finger crossed for the plan to work.

“2,705!”

“2,765!”

“2,732!”

“2,714!”

“2,757!”

The group of lizards violently attacked the warrior puppet. The damage dealt made the puppet, which had emerged from the magic card, explode and turn into purple fog.

A purple bubble popped up above three Crystal Lizards’ heads…It was neither their skill nor spell, but a symbol represented a status effect.

Level 51, 7-star, Crystal Lizard A, C, D have been poisoned—Poison level 1, causes loss of 2% from Max HP per minute!

“YES!” He gave a fist pump before running outside. He sat down, heaved a sigh, and looked at the card in the Graveyard, a place that houses cards that have been destroyed or used.

“As I thought, they were poisoned.” He said as he got to his feet. “Let’s wait a little while,” Tan murmured and waited for about two minutes. Two cards were drawn, and one was discarded, he then went inside the room again. The poisoned Crystal Lizards charged towards him as soon as they saw his presence.

Too fast, too furious…The door was shut as he left the room with a pleasant look on his face.
