La-la land

I sit there awkwardly after his confession. My body paralyzed from shock. After a few seconds I snap back into reality.

"Drystan I-" he cuts me off mid sentence.

"I shouldn't have said that. " he mumbles standing up to leave. I quickly wrap my fingers around his wrist pulling him back gently. He stops and turns to look down at me. Pain swirls in his green eyes, a sigh leaving his lips.

"It's okay. I'm glad that you did." I say a sad smile forming on my lips. Drystan nods his head in understanding and I release his wrist from my grip.

"Do you need to use the restroom?" He asks. I shake my head no.

" I will be in the car. " he says taking our leftovers and walking off. A sigh leaves my lips while I watch him retreat to the car. I wasn't expecting that from him. Drystan was never one for words unless he was talking about his books that is. He read constantly, his library full of books from all over the world and every era. If you asked him about his latest book, his eyes would light up and he'd start rambling on and on. It was something I loved about him when we were together.

I smile slightly looking out across the pond and begin my walk towards the cars. Taking my time to enjoy the fresh air around me. No sound but the engine and the crickets are heard as I make my way back. Upon reaching the large black SUV Drystan opens the door from the inside and gets out waiting for me to slide in. I mumble a thank you and crawl in fastening my seatbelt. Drystan then gets back in closing the car door behind him. We pull off onto the road into town towards the interstate.

Drystan and I sit in silence watching the cars and buildings blur behind us. My thoughts begin to wonder back to the way we used to be. He was always so physical with me before, when we rode together he always held my hand no matter where we were or who we were with but now he could barely look at me. I couldn't really blame him, I did try to hurt him. I wasn't myself when I did it, I was in so much pain and the medications were pushing me over the edge. It was partially Drystan's fault though, his jealousy was toxic. One of his worst traits, he'd easily become irritated with the smallest attention I showed towards another man. I'd hated his insecurities when it came to us. In every other part of his life he was the perfect strong alpha, confidence seeping through his pores. But when it came to me, he was always questioning himself and being possessive. A little possessive behavior was attractive but his was not.

My anger flares up, and I suck my teeth at his past and probably present behavior. Drystan glances over at me, my glare sharp and deadly.

"Yes?" He asks, turning to look back out the window. My face screws up slightly. I roll my eyes and watch the people and cars until we get to the interstate.

twelve forty five am.

It had been thirty minutes since we got back on the road. I'd played games on my phone the whole time sipping on my aloe vera and coconut juice from time to time. Drystan just sat there like a sack of potatoes, the only sounds he made were yawns and his barely audible breathing. Drystan yawns again, soon after rubbing his face with his hands.

"Just go to sleep." I sigh, powering off my phone and looking over at him.

"I'm fine." He mumbles crossing his arms over his chest.

"No you're not. Go to sleep, Drystan." I growl, throwing him my pillow . Drystan catches it and sits there looking at me skeptically for a few seconds. I make a face at him meaning 'What the fuck do you want? ' and he places the pillow in the middle seat. Drystan lays his head on it, a soft sigh leaving his lips. I reach over him and pull his coat off the chair in front of him. I use two hands and lay it across his body before turning to my side and using my blanket as a pillow with some of it covering my body. Within seconds Drystan begins to breathe heavy. I slowly reach down, rubbing his back and finger combing his thick brown curls. I play with his hair while I surf Pinterest, reorganizing my boards and renaming them all for the next three hours, we were in Virginia now.

My eyes become drowsy and I drift off to sleep, my eyes burning with tiredness.

Four o'clock am.

"No, please." I hear Drystan cry beside me. I immediately wake up and look down at him making sure he's alright. Cause the Lord knows I'd be blamed if something happened to him. He was physically fine but whatever he was dreaming about wasn't la la land. Sweat was beading on his forehead and he was hot to the touch. I quickly remove his suit jacket and rub my hand in large circles on his soaked back. Drystan calms down but he continues to speak in his sleep.

"I'm sorry, Amelia. I didn't mean to." He cries softly.

I shake him awake and he gasps as he does. He pants heavily sitting up in his seat as fast as lightning, eyes moving frantically around the car .

"Drystan, calm down." I say soothingly grasping his bicep. He doesn't, he continues to panic not being able to breathe right. He was having a panic attack. I unbuckle my seat and move to the middle, closer to him.

"I-I can't breathe." He says gripping at his chest. His eyes fill with tears and fear as he gasps for air. I reach up and pull him down to lay his head on my chest, his ear right on my heart. He grips onto my thigh tightly, desperately needing something to hold on to. Wrapping my arms around him, I rub his back in small circles trying my best to calm him down. After an hour he falls asleep, his head on my lap and my blanket wrapped around us both. In the two years that I'd known him, he'd never had panic attacks or problems with sleeping. It was strange but then again this whole man was strange.

I reach down to grab my headphones and laptop, to watch a few episodes of criminal minds. It was five something and the sky was starting to change from a pitch black to a light blue. Drystan remains asleep the whole time. I roll the window and begin speaking with the driver.

"Hey, do you want to stop and take a break? So you can stretch your legs and everything. "

"No miss, the hotel is about five minutes away. The Alpha has already checked in and filled out the paperwork over the phone." He answers.

"Oh."

" Your keys are in his suit pocket. " he tells me. I look out the car window, the tall buildings towering over our car. We continue on the road for a few more minutes before pulling up to a huge hotel, parking in the front in a reserved section.

"Drystan." I whisper moving my thighs a little. He doesn't budge. "Drystan!" I whisper again, slapping his bum. He moans stirring up. "We're at the hotel and you have the keys." He nods his head and slowly sits up , rubbing his eyes. He grabs his coat and steps out coming to get our bags. I pack up my things, folding my blanket and pillow. I sit them down on the seat next to me and slip on my shoes, grabbing my purse as Drystan walks in the front doors to the luxury hotel. He comes back opening the door and letting me step out onto the asphalt, my heels clanking against it as I walk. Once we enter the hotel entrance, the smell of coffee and muffins fill my nostrils. The interior was filled with marble, gold, and crystals. The hotel was beautiful but I was more concerned about my room. I was completely exhausted, my eyes shutting every few seconds from drowsiness as we go up the elevator.
