Chapter 4: The Team is Established

Ronald's POV

Hmm… I've read today news about the weather that it will be sunny with it being 80 degrees today. I've also read that Todd had been taken into custody last night after our exams. Apparently they fought he was the suspect who killed 4 men that night, and he tried to explain that a woman save his life using the mystical arts which no one but I believed him since I know the hothead has the brains for being a bull.

Thankfully, Captain Vice and the witnesses smoothed things over with them. Truly, I am grateful. And here I am, working with these intelligently lesser morons… A hotheaded leader, A pugilist, and simply Ms. Saravayt is… so bland, so average.

"Attention, Ladies!" We stand and salute.

"At ease!" We simply relax our stance.

"Now here are the results of your exam!" he pulls out the files from his hands. "You all passed. You demonstrated this unit can function as a team, contribute your individuals talents to complete a mission…" I beamed in pride at the Captain's comments. "I got the permission from the higher ups to establish your team, ranks and to appoint a team leader."

Ohhh! I rub my hands in excitement! I should be the leader of this team of these backwash savages. Not only that, but I am definitely qualified to lead this team thanks to my tactical brilliance, my high intellect and my knowledge of the wastes.

"Private Tonbente!" He snapped me out of my dream.

"Sir! My apologies, Sir!" I stood to attention.

"Pay Attention, I am giving you the rank of Intelligence officer within your squad. You showed your knowledge and expertise during your training."

"Sir… This is an honor!" I smiled proudly.

"Kai… I am promoting you to Sergeant in Arms. You will arm and equip your team by any means necessary." The Captain has promoted Kai to Sergeant in Arms, and he nods in agreement.

"Sirena!" she paid attention.

"For skill, intelligent and willingness to take initiative. Not to mention you almost stepped over your teammate during the exam and your willingness to help! I promote you to Lieutenant!" Captain exclaimed.

"Sir! Thank you!" he nods as he moved to Todd.

"And you, Mr. Foxmensky!" as he stepped closer to him. "You are hotheaded, impulsive, reckless that you almost got your ass killed."

"I know… Sir!" Todd look down realizing he didn't think it through last night.

"Look up at me, Private! This is your moment!" Captain speaks to my hotheaded friend. "I will promote you to the rank of Lt. Captain! Now it is the time to use that head of yours, Lt. Captain!"

"Sir! I… I don't-"

"Excuse me, sir! About team leadership…" I smiled slightly "Who will lead this team, Sir? I'll have you know, that I can lead this team to excellence." I stuck my prideful chest to signify that I should lead the team.

"Negative! Todd Foxmensky will lead this team since he is the Lt. Captain!" he stands in front of me. "And he is your superior!"

"Oh yes, thank you very much to making me your team leader! I shall- "Wait- Wait… "You said Todd… The hotheaded Idiot that will lead this team?" I frown upon hearing this.

"Yes, Officer Tonbente! He will lead this unit of 4." he said with no hesitation on his part.

Are… Are you serious, Sir? Him??? THAT HOTHEADED IDIOT WHO NEARLY GOT HIMSELF KILLED AND YOU WOULD PROMOTE HIM OVER ME??! Why am I getting the feeling that the team is going to get dragged down with him?

"Sir… You have just made the biggest mistake of putting him in charge…" I couldn't contain my fury of having that idiot being made team leader. "HE IS A MISTAKE!!" I shout it loud for everyone to hear.

"How so, Officer Tonbente?" My commanding officer asked me that question.
