Chapter 0001: Pilot

Narniff said firmly, "A deal's a deal," He placed the silver coin down on the bar table. "A glass of whiffey." The bartender handed him a glass of whiffey, a popular alcoholic with the inhabitants of Drenhald.

The bartender gave a fine chuckle. He said, "I admire your ferocity. This drink— It's not going on your bill. Because my friend, you're ferocious."

Narniff left the bar, glass in hand. He let out a deep sigh of relief, as his fiance approached. "Torin, my love."

"Narniff," said Torin. "Fate has our eyes cross once again."

Narniff smiled. "You never disappointed me once."

"And I always loved you."

Torin embraced Narniff. "You smell like blood. Don't tell me you've been bounty hunting."

Narniff reassured, "I quit the business long ago. Come. Let's walk." Narniff took her by the hand, down the gangster-ridden streets of town.

"See," Torin noted. "That's why I don't want you bounty hunting. These criminals are dangerous gangsters, not to be messed with."

"I won't mess with them," replied Narniff. "Besides, bounty hunting is too dangerous of a profession. I'm weak and old."

"Good. I love you too much to see your head chopped up and hung on a wall by some nasty gangsters. Now let's get going before the sun sets. I have to make you dinner."

In the distance, a group of silhouettes on horses. As the silhouettes moved into the light, it became clear who they were: knights of The Wildsmoke Clan. They rode pedigreed mustangs, quick and stealthy. The Wildsmoke's finest knights: The Wildsmoke Gun-toters had arrived at the town to collect the debts from the people.

Their leader, the infamous "Coldheart Jareem," was a vicious and unruly sheriff. He strode up to them in his mustang and said, "Move out of the way. I'm here to collect debts—"

Torin interrupted, "You won't collect debts,"

"What did you say little lady?" Jareem strode up to Torin, and looked at her daringly.

Torin marched up to his mustang. She stood on its hoofs and eyed him down. He wore all blue, from hat to heels, and a golden badge. "I said... you won't collect debts."

"I won't collect debts today but know this: we collect debts on our terms, not yours."

"Our kingdom is corrupt," Torin said to Narniff. "We should start a rebellion."

"Indeed we should," Narniff replied. "Soon. Very soon, we should start a rebellion against this wretched empire. But not now."

"Why not now?"

Narniff smiled gently and understandingly at Torin. "Because now, we have other issues. But don't worry. Soon, all those issues will be resolved, and we will live peacefully."

"What if they do not?" Torin embraced herself worryingly. "What if the issues persist?"

"Then that is when we rebel." Narniff looked out onto the world ahead, and the setting sun behind it, and pondered on the wonders which lied ahead, and lamented his life as a gangster, and his new life as a peasant with his wife.

Torin interrupted him, "Should we get going now? The Sun has already began to set."

Narniff nodded. "We should get going."
