"You excited for prom this year?" My best friend Faye whispered to me

I glanced up from my math work to see her chocolatey brown skin that was almost black but not quite. She had extremely short brown hair and her dark brown eyes stared at me awaiting an answer.

"How could I not be? I just need someone to go with." I responded

"Well if neither of us gets a date we could go as friends." She joked

I snorted, "I'm definitely gonna get a date."

"Oh really?"

"Yeah because if somebody has a gender preference I can just change genders. Plus I don't care so I can have everyone."

"Is that really how that works?"

"No but it's a nice thought."

"Who would you want to go with if you could go with anyone?"

I thought about it for a second, "Addison Miller. What about you?"

She opened her mouth to respond but the teacher yelled at us.

"Quiet down ladies or I'll send you back to your seats!"

"I'm male right now actually!" I called back

She sighed and didn't say another word. It probably wasn't obvious I was male at the moment. I kept my unruly, red curls right a chin length so I would have a more gender neutral hair style. At the moment I was wearing a lavender oversized sweatshirt with flowers printed on the front. My jeans were baggy and had little crescent moons stitched onto them. I always wore my genderfluid and pansexual pins on the front of my shirt and today was no different. Most of the teachers in the school had accepted me but Mrs. Jewels was one of the worst. She always made a point of using she/her pronouns for me no matter what I told her. She was also part of the reason I had started wearing the pins. I just wanted to prove to her that her say didn't matter to me and I was proud of who I was.
