Dragon x Drifter

Yuki was a drifter, a person from Earth who came to another world due to an unfortunate coincidence. Ripped away from his cherished mundane life and the world he was familiar with, he made it his goal to roam around his new world to seek for a way back home. Along the way, his path crossed with mortals, demons, gods, and dragons. And without realizing it, he found himself in the middle of a storm involving these mythical creatures and entities, became a hero along the way, and met people who later on became inseparable with his existence. Trouble went looking for him while searching for a path leading back to Earth. Was he able to accomplish what he set to do? Or did he give up halfway, succumbing to the perils of the world and losing his courage to thread a path full of trials? Drifter Learns About Otherworlders & Principle Elements

What greeted Yuki the moment he opened his eyes was the surprised expression written on Ereben's face. Somehow, although he did not know what it was that he did, he felt satisfaction deep in his heart seeing that he managed to make the graceful and elegant dragon show an expression not befitting his usual style. However, worried that he might have done something wrong, he inquired.

"Hey, is something wrong?"

"No, I was just surprised that you were able to multicast." Ereben explained.

"Is being able to do so that special?"

"No, trained mages are capable of doing so. However, it definitely is not normal for you to be able to do it, more so with the current power level and experience that you possess. Is this the first time you have done something like this?"

"Well, yeah. Aside from casting a puny flame spell, I have no prior experience about this kind of thing." The subordinated dragon nodded in acknowledgement.

He guessed that Yuki must have been a talent already in the magic department when he was still a normal human. But when he received the dragon bloodline, his potential must have improved exponentially. After all, just having the dragon bloodline alone can make someone extremely talented, not to mention if he already had prior aptitude in it.

"So, this is what a drifter truly is like…"

"Do you know something about people like myself? I heard from master that there are also others in this world that came from other worlds."

"Well, there are, but the otherworlders in this world do not come the same way as you did. You just found yourself in this place one day, right?"

"Yes."

"The difference between you and the others is that they are summoned through a magic ritual. To be more precise, it is through the hero summoning ritual that the humans possess."

"Hero summoning? There's hero summoning here?" Yuki raised his voice unconsciously.

"Why? Is there something wrong?"

"No… not at all. Please, continue."

Facing Ereben's questioning look, he could only say that there was nothing. He could not just say that he somewhat knew because of those fantasy books that he had read while surfing on the internet. He really could not believe that it was happening. To think that he would encounter such a cliché trope in a different world... It was absurd and made him feel a little giddy inwardly. If given a chance, he would definitely like to meet one of them. Surely, it was not impossible for one of them to be from Earth when he was able to make it in this world.

Ereben, choosing to ignore the abnormality in the drifter's expression, continued. "Carrying on, the reason why humans go to such length to summon people from other worlds is that, somehow, otherworlders possess greater strength and potential compared to the natives of this world. About why that is the case, it still has not been discovered yet. But many scholars assume that they either come from higher worlds, thus their higher potential, or something is probably occurring to their bodies during the summoning phase. As for you…"

"As for me?"

"According to Her Majesty, the world that you came from did not have the presence of mana in it. Or to be more accurate, that world only possessed little amounts of it. So, the factor of your world being a higher one is naturally obsolete, thus I can only theorize that something must have happened to you on your way to this world, increasing your original potential into a higher one."

"So, what you meant was…"

"That's right. The reason why you were able to multicast despite being unfamiliar with magic was because you already had good aptitude with magic, and the bloodline that Her Majesty bestowed to you only boosted it even further, making it possible to perform feats that you should not have been able to do."

It was only now that Yuki was able to realize how special his identity as a drifter was. It was also probably for this reason why Mirelia had not disdained to make him her servant despite him being a human. For these past few weeks, although he was aware that it was this identity that kept him safe, he still resented it for reminding him that he was no longer in his world. However, hearing about it from Ereben and being able to know more about himself, a tiny part of the grudge that he had for being ripped out of his cherished normal life faded into nothingness. This talent that he had been blessed with, he would certainly make use of it.

"By the way, Mr. Ereben, may I ask you something?"

"Yes, you may do so."

"We've talked about the elements, and I think already understand the gist of everything. But I wonder," Yuki tilted his head, "which element is needed for teleportation magic? Is there a space element, perhaps?"

Ereben looked at the drifter, his chin supported by the hand that he had held up. He did not plan to discuss topics beyond the scope of what they had talked about this day. However, just knowing that Yuki was a drifter was enough for him to understand the underlying meaning of the question. To the drifter, this was very important.

The subordinate dragon sighed. "I was planning to save this lesson for next time since I had deemed that the topics that we had discussed today were sufficient enough."

"Hmm?"

"However, I'll make an exception this time and tell you."

Yuki's golden eyes shimmered in anticipation.

"Aside from those that we had already talked about, there are more elements in this world that exist. And among those are the Principle elements. These elements are ever present in the world, closely related to the main laws of the universe. But unlike the others, they are elements that could not be controlled just by being good at manipulating mana. These elements could only be used by an individual if they had comprehended laws that are related to them. And of course, even the dragons are no exception to this rule."

"…"

"The teleportation magic that you asked about is listed on this category. If you want to use it, you must comprehend the Space Law."

Yuki let out a groan. Disappointment carved itself on his face as his eyes' glimmer dimmed a bit. He assumed that he might be able to learn more about it and even use it since he was technically a dragon already. However, it would be too good to be true if that were the case. Even though he should have already expected this outcome, he still could not help but be disappointed.

"However, if you want to use it in the future, you need not worry. If you encounter an opportunity in the future, you might be able to use it someday. Since you already possess the elemental aptitude of dragons, it would not be too difficult for you. After all, even if dragons are not exceptions, that does not mean we do not have advantages."

Dragons were, after all, still freaks of nature blessed with the highest affinity with the elements in this world. And with Yuki's talent as a drifter who had received the bloodline of a dragon, Ereben did not doubt at all that he would be able to use teleportation magic in the future. It was only a matter of when.

A sigh of relief was exhaled out of Yuki's mouth hearing the elegant dragon's words. It seemed like he did not have to worry too much. That was right! He did not have to hurry about such things. It would come when the time was right, and it was only proper to do things prudently. Since he still could not use space magic and anything related to it, then he would just focus on what he had. And boy, he had a lot of things to study with the number of elements that he was compatible with.

Ereben smiled inwardly seeing the changes in Yuki's expression. He knew he did not have to worry when the impatience in the drifter's expression vanished. He was quite thrilled at the notion of teaching Yuki knowing how high his ceiling was. For such talent, he was willing to dedicate little of his time in order to polish this rough gemstone. In addition, he would not lose anything by doing so since this would also help further his liege's agenda in the future.

"Alright, do you have any more questions?"

"I don't, Mr. Ereben. Thank you for answering my inquiries."

"It is alright. Now then, let us continue."
