Chapter 9

The blade of the katana reverted to its normal shape, but it still kept its pitch black coating, an ominous aura leaking out of it.

"Keep going straight ahead. I'll deal with any cannon balls and board their ship," he yelled as he jumped off the ship, using the new energy that he had just unlocked to propel himself and arrive at the marine ship.

The marine soldiers were startled as Hakai seemingly appeared out of nowhere but they quickly surrounded him with their weapons out.

Aside from melee weapons, there were also some marines that were standing far back and aiming their guns at him.

Watching from behind them all was a tall man wearing a suit under a justice coat. If Hakai remembered correctly, marine captains were usually the ones that wore this type of outfit.

"You're surrounded, you filthy pirate. Make a move, or die," the marine captain said.

Hakai smiled as he raised his katana and swung it around in a circle around him, slashing some of the nearby marines that surrounded him and cutting them in half from the sheer strength of his slash.

The marines that had guns started firing at Hakai, but he dodged them easily as he enhanced his body with draconic energy which acted similar to haki.

Hakai swung his katana left and right, sending out waves of compressed air that was infused with darkness to the marines that he couldn't reach normally with his blade.

The fight was a massacre. Marine soldiers died left and right and even though he was committing murder, he didn't feel bad. It didn't even feel wrong. Maybe this was a side effect of being a dragon causing him to not bat an eye about taking a human life...

(AN: Dragons usually don't care about human lives)

On the side, the marine captain was panicking as he watched his men die left and right, not even managing to injure, no... not even managing to touch Hakai.

Amidst this slaughter, Hakai regained his composure and stopped just short of killing the last marine besides the captain.

Instead of killing the soldier, Hakai simply knocked him unconscious, sparing the marine's life.

Hakai figured that it would be better to let a normal soldier live instead of the captain since it would show his strength more because of the fact that a marine captain is stronger than an ordinary soldiers.

"Ok, only one more to go," he exclaimed as he looked around, trying to find the marine captain, which was nowhere to be found.

As he was looking around, he heard screams from his ship.

"Hakai! Help!" Makino screamed as the captain held her from behind and placed his sword on her neck.

"Take one more step and I swear I'll cut off this woman's head," the captain said to Hakai as he began turning the wheel of the ship away from Hakai.

"Makino, remember what I taught you!" he yelled out to her. Hakai already had a plan to take care of the captain, but he wanted to see if Makino could deal with him herself.

Makino closed her eyes as she remembered what Hakai taught her.

'I can't move my arms, but I can still move my feet and from this position, I can attack a man's greatest weakness...' she thought to herself.

Opening her eyes, she moved her feet back and kicked the captain's balls, causing him to groan in pain and fall over on the ship deck, letting go of Makino.

"That's right! That's what you get!" Makino began repeatedly kicking his balls, effectively killing any chances of him ever having kids before Hakai came over and stopped her.

"Makino, you can stop now. I know he's the enemy, but that's also hurting me too," he said as he swallowed his saliva, making a mental note not to mess with her.

Makino hadn't realized it yet, but she actually liked fighting and defeating her first enemy caused a spark to ignite inside her that wanted more.

"Rest in peace," Hakai said as he beheaded the unconscious captain, throwing his severed head back to the marine ship for the marine soldiers to find once they awakened.

[Quest #3:] Defeat a Marine ship, but leave one alive has been completed!

[Rewards:] 50 Aether Coins

With the additional 50 coins he recieved from the quest, he now had a total of 215 Aether Coins.

Before continuing with their journey, Hakai quickly looted the marine ship, grabbing their supplies and food and even some of the belly that they had looted from pirates. All in all, Hakai got food, water, supplies to repair the ship, and around 20 million Belly which isn't that bad.

Once he was finished looting, Hakai and Makino went back to their journey to going to the Organ Islands.

As the day passed, Hakai was sitting cross-legged at the center of the ship, focusing on himself.

During the fight when he was trying to stop the cannonball, Hakai achieved a sort of breakthrough of sorts and now had access to an energy called Draconic Energy, and he wanted to learn more about what this energy was.

As he focused within himself, Hakai could feel that his body was subconsciously creating Draconic Energy, but there was also a different energy that his body was producing, but unlike Draconic Energy, this one was a bit more suppressed and seemed like it needed awakening.

Tapping into this other mysterious energy, a notification popped up.

[You've unlocked the latent haki inside you. Further training is needed to put it to actual use.]

[New skill:] Haki Manipulation

'So that was Haki? It seems that unlike draconic energy, I need to train it more to actually use Armament Haki or Observation Haki.'
