Ch. 113: Ginyu is Who? No, He's a Frog!?

"Galick Gun!"

"Change Now!"

"GOKU!"

"KAKAROT!"

"DADDY!"

Everything happened at once. Dad pushed me out of the way just as Ginyu and Vegeta let their respective beams loose. But, from my spot, having been pushed out of the way at the last second, I was just barely able to see what happened, and boy was I relieved.

Both beams got to Ginyu's body at the exact same time, but only one of them actually hit. Knowing that there was a chance of the soul transfer being interrupted if Ginyu's body were to die, the Core Girls stepped in to block Vegeta's Galick Gun right before it hit Ginyu's body, creating a thin shield of divine energy behind Ginyu's back, which blocked the blast with ease.

Meanwhile, between Ginyu and Goku, something else was happening. Ginyu's blast established a connection between their bodies, and two very confused souls slipped out, heading directly for their original bodies. Nobody but me had the ability to see pure souls, but what I saw made me smile. Dad waved his hand, before looking up towards his body with a smile on his face. He was able to move his soul now.

In other words, he could release his full potential as soon as his body was healed from Vegeta's onslaught. Now, all that was left was shoving Ginyu's own soul into a frog.

"Whaa!? My old body!?" Ginyu asked, "Why am I in my old body!?"

"Why's he not dead? That was a powerful attack!" I could hear Piccolo wonder below, having come out of the ship shortly after Vegeta had.

"Daddy? Are you back in your own body?" Gohan asked, realizing what had probably happened from Ginyu's confused shout.

"That's right, Gohan... Vegeta, you really didn't pull your punches, did you? Ouch, this smarts." Goku told them from the crater that he'd been tossed into, his body in too much pain for him to bother standing, now that the fight was settled.

"Of course not... so, Ginyu's back in his old body, huh? That technique he used, it must have somehow deflected my Galick gun, but I doubt he can do it again." Vegeta thought to himself.

"V-Vegeta..." Ginyu turned around, looking up at Vegeta as if he was an angel of death. Technically, the current Ginyu was stronger than he'd been in Goku's body, but the difference was minimal. Vegeta was still far stronger than the current, injured Ginyu. But Ginyu knew that he had one chance. If he could swap with Vegeta before he was killed, then he'd be able to survive this one battle at least. Maybe, by using the body-swap technique in succession, he'd even be able to beat the rest of those brats who dared to defy Frieza. It was a small hope, but hope nonetheless.

But first, Ginyu needed Vegeta to let his guard down. He wouldn't fall for the same trick right after seeing it.

"Please, Vegeta. Don't kill me!" Ginyu begged, genuine fear running through his being. If he got the timing wrong, or one of a hundred things went wrong, then Ginyu would definitely die, and he knew it.

Meanwhile, I picked up a frog.

"Nice to see you beg like that, so pathetic, Ginyu. But I'm not the type to have mercy on those weaker than I." In an instant, Vegeta was in front of Ginyu, and then with a single kick, Ginyu was buried in the dirt beside Goku's almost unconscious figure, but this time, Vegeta believed that he'd learned. He wasn't going to allow Ginyu to fire that beam of light at him again, he thought. so he went in personally, his fists in front of his face, he began to drop down, intent on killing Ginyu once and for all with a physical attack. Goku shouted at him to stop, but Vegeta ignored Goku and kept going in for his finisher.

Then, it happened. "CHANGE NOW!"

Vegeta found his body frozen in place. This was a part of the technique, his soul was jarred, temporarily disconnected from his body. If the beam missed, it would just feel like temporary paralysis, but it was the first part of the technique, in reality. Unfortunately for Ginyu, it wasn't a surefire technique. If a third-party got in between the two before the technique ended, and didn't have the strength of 'soul' to beat out Ginyu's, then they'd be swapped into Ginyu's body instead. That's where I came in.

"Try being a frog!" I shouted, tossing the frog between Vegeta and Ginyu just before the beam hit Vegeta. There was a flash of light, and the frog's momentum stopped, it falling to the ground.

Meanwhile, Ginyu's own body... "Ribbit." The frog inside it was ribbiting in complaint over all the bones that Vegeta and Ginyu had broken in its new body.

"Nice going, Hanna!" Dad called over at me, realizing what I'd done.

"Kakarot's daughter. What did you just do?" Vegeta asked me, stopping his attack upon seeing Ginyu's body start ribbiting. It was obvious, after all, that Ginyu wasn't inside it anymore.

I walked over and picked up the struggling Ginyu-frog. Petting him, I gently put a seal on his energy. In the original canon, Ginyu had eventually been able to escape his frog form by making someone else say the words 'change now,' which acted as an impetus to shake his own soul enough to allow him to use the technique.

Since someone else saying the words was enough to allow Ginyu to begin the technique, even when he couldn't use a lick of Ki, then it was entirely possible for Ginyu to one day figure out how to use it by himself, without any help or vocal impetus at all, if he one day decided to suddenly grow up mentally. But my seal changed all of that. Now, even if someone else said the words, Ginyu's soul would never leave that frog. He could theoretically learn to use Ki in his frog body, even become the universe's strongest frog, but he'd never be able to leave the frog now.
