48 Life on Earth

"Kakarot, Tarble, don't run off too far!" Gine yelled as the two boys ran out into the wilderness.

"Quit fussin' Gine." Bardock said as he sat down on the steps of their cabin. "They always come back."

"And what if they don't this time?" Gine asked.

"Then I guess we'll find them sleeping at the cliffs again with their bellies full of apples." He replied.

Gine rolled her eyes and looked back in the direction that her son and godson had run off. It seemed she was the only one that had any worries for the children.

Seeing this, Bardock laughed and said, "Gine, they'll be fine! Those two are stronger than anything on the planet. Nothing is going to hurt them."

"As much as I hate agreeing with your husband, he is right."

Bardock and Gine turned and saw Sela stepping outside of her own cabin, sitting down in a chair that was on the porch.

"Kakarot and Tarble can handle whatever those... humans can throw at them." She said, her voice harboring some disgust as she mentioned the inhabitants of the planet.

"Y'know, you act as if you hate humans, yet you spend most of your time with one of them." Gine replied.

Sela's face turned a bright shade of red and looked away in a huff.

"That's only because Tarble is always around the old fool." She retorted.

"Then why do you always go around his house every weekend?" Asks Gine.

The thought almost made Gine chuckle out loud. After all, she never would have thought Sela of all people would be seen having any type of friendly relationship with any alien creatures.

Then again, it was Gohan she was talking about. The old man just seemed to bring out the best in people.

"Th-That's just because I find his tea to be very satisfactory!" Sela exclaimed, stumbling on her words a bit. "Besides, after I drink enough of the concoction, he will surely run out of water and slowly die of dehydration."

"Uh-huh..." Bardock hummed, looking at the former-queen as if she was an idiot. "Be careful Zyleth doesn't catch wind of you little plan. You remember the last time someone accidentally harmed the old man?"

"Of course I do." Sela replied before lowly muttering, "Took Shugesh weeks to stop screaming in his sleep..."

About a year into their new living arrangements, Shugesh had accidentally sent Gohan flying into a wall after the old man had told a joke and caused Shugesh to laugh uncontrollably.

If it had been during any other time of the year, he probably would've gotten a verbal lashing from the others, but that was the day Zyleth had came for his annual visit.

They don't know what Zyleth did, but they saw him poke Shugesh's forehead before the rotund Saiyan suddenly collapsed to the ground, screaming bloody murder. They don't know what happened, but they just know that they never wanted to find out.

"Good morning everyone."

Snapping everyone out of their reminiscence, Gohan suddenly appeared, waving at them with a kind smile.

"Good morning, Gohan." Gine replied sweetly.

"Morning." Bardock nodded.

Sela just let out a small "hmph" before turning her head away.

"Something the matter?" Gohan asks, looking towards Sela.

"Don't mind her, she's just in denial." Bardock told him.

"I am most certainly not in denial!" Sela responds angrily.

"Yeah, yeah." Bardock waved his hand dismissively towards her, not interested in dealing with her annoying antics.

Seeing their usual banter, Gohan smiled and deemed that everything was fine until he looked around for the other Saiyans, "Where are the others?"

"Tora and the rest of them went to the city to grab some food." Gine told him.

"Alone? Is that really wise?" Gohan asked worriedly. "Why couldn't they just hunt around here? There's plenty of animals here."

"Stop worrying, old man, it's just groceries." Bardock replied, not seeing why Gohan was getting so worked up.

"The last time they went into the city, they were banned from four different grocery stores." Gohan reminded him.

Bardock flinched a bit before responding with, "That was a long time ago."

"It was three weeks ago..." Gohan replied.

It was safe to say that interactions between Saiyans and Humans were not exactly smooth sailing. Even though they had been living there for eight years, some of the Saiyans were very confused on a few things that were normal to everyday human life.

Like self-checkout.

There was a lot of machinery broken on that day.

A lot of stolen food as well...

"Where are young Tarble and Kakarot?" Gohan asked after noticing that it was oddly silent, looking around for the two Saiyan children.

"They went towards the waterfall. Said something about catching some fish monster?" Sela said, shrugging the strangeness of her son's statement off without much thought.

"Fish monster? Wait, you're not talking about--"

"MOM! DAD!"

Hearing the sound of Kakarot's voice in the distance, the four adults suddenly turned their gazes towards the path leading to the cabins and were shocked to see Kakarot and Tarble flying over with a fish ten times the size of both of them combined.

"WE CAUGHT THE FISH MONSTER!" Kakarot yelled with an open-mouth smile, laughing as he carried the fish.

"...Are fish supposed to be that large...?" Gine asked Gohan, looking at the fish with widened eyes.

"Who cares." Bardock cut in, looking at the fish with stars in his eyes. "NICE CATCH, SON!"
