A Dragon at the Fair

It had been a hundred years since Brenton had left his castle to walk amongst these stupid mortals. It was only tradition that brought him out now. Every hundred years a woman was offered to the dragon as a bride. He could then either take the maiden home with him where she would be his for the rest of her days, or he could simply eat her. The last few centuries he had just gulped the screaming annoying creature down and had the next century of peace. He loathed humans, such greedy cockroaches of a race. The man blathering on next to him he longed to spread his claws and strike down where he droned on and on.

"We had thought you just a myth! Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think you where real, uh no offense." Governor Jackass groveled. Brenton could not for the life of him remember the man's name, nor did he care to try. Alonian looked very much the same in a hundred years a few more buildings had been erected and yes he didn't remember it being quite so large, but overall it was utterly the same. Boredom was the absolute bane of Brenton's existence. He had now lived for five hundred very long years. Oh he had had his share of excitement here and there. The hundred year war had been extremely entertaining to be sure, but with its conclusion he had lost nearly all of his fellow dragons. The ones that had lived had scattered to avoid the humans coming for the last of their kind. He had formed a bargain with this province, he would leave them in peace for a hundred years if once a century they would offer him a bride. Looking back on his choice he wondered if he had not been drunk. It would have been a lot less headache to simply have killed them all. The governor lead him through the fair that was far too crowded with fealthy pests to be enjoyable, not that he would have been happy if they where gone either. Delyn his servant sinced his masters growing annoyance and flinched. His master had many of a temper tantrums over the years and it was always Delyn's job to clean up the mess. Delyn was a drake. He was weaker, smaller, and less powerful than his master, but he still did most of the dirty work.

Brenton stopped walking so suddenly Delyn nearly collided with his master. He managed to stop just in time. He let out a sigh of relief, Brenton had such a terrible temper sometimes.

Brenton's eyes where locked on the stage. He inhaled sharply scenting the air. He let out a huff of frustration remembering in this form he could not smell as well.

"What is that?" Brenton pointed to the silver haired woman on the stage. He could feel magic all over the girl. She nearly had as much as he did. Was she a dragon? He was not certain, but that wasn't possible he was the only dragon on this continent for the last five hundred years.

"It seems to be Traveler's your majesty. I had heard in a report that they would be here." The governor was watching Brenton's expression in confusion.

No thought Brenton that wasn't a human.
