Chapter 4 Martial Spirit

Chen Jin was four years old now, had been for about three months now.

If someone asked him what he thought of his new life he wasn't certain how he would answer.

On one hand, He Is In A Fantasy World! That's exiting. On the other hand he's four and can't really do anything he would like to. Like travelling around.

Once again on one hand, There is spiritual energy! On the other, besides absorbing it from the air, he can't really do anything with it. Well, he can, he figured a while ago how to temporarily strengthen himself, but that's just because it is kind of just there already, floating around in his body, he can't move it much.

It feels like it is his and at the same time not his, it isn't stored in any special place like a dantian, and he still hasn't figured out how meridians work, so he is afraid to hurt himself just using his less than stellar control to force it into a random one.

'It's probably because I haven't awakened my martial soul yet' he thought a bit forlornly as he laid on the ground.

'Still annoyes me that I have so many ideas but can't try a single one'.

Besides those two problems he also didn't really get along all that well with the other villagers. The kids, besides he himself having trouble finding any kind of common ground with them, found him weird. Something about he being 'too adult like'.

The adults (besides Bai Huo and Bai Yin) treated him like a child, and spoke to him like they were talking to one. And they stared (and tried to pinch his cheeks) . It annoyed him.

It became clear quite quickly since young(er) that his physical features would attract attention.

Is request had been heeded, it seemed, he had golden eyes and white hair, like his mother, which he his thankful for, but his hair his untamable, to say the least, and his skin is a natural tanned colour, it contrasts with his long white hair and attracts attention.

Bai Yin tells him that he his a little lady killer (everytime she is pinching is cheeks and talking baby while trying to annoy him), he doesn't doubt her, but he could do with a little less pinching.

He was just looking at the cloudless blue sky now, laying down with his hair laying everywhich way.

It was morning, Bai Huo was occupied, and he had already done his exercise for today. He was just relaxing, meditating, something that he will do after, is calming too, but it's different.

It feels good to just lay down and watch the clouds go by sometimes. The lack of clouds today notwithstanding.

Today he was a bit twitchy in the morning, the whole reason why he is currently relaxing. He knows that something is going to happen today, got twitchy and exited, and thus, was summarily unable to meditate to ascertain is suspicions of what.

A few months ago his spiritual energy stopped growing, so he started to send more to the weird connection. He felt that today he was finally going to see what it was.

He continued layind down, if he sat he would probably start to build his anticipation again, and he didn't feel like having to try and calm himself again, and started to meditate.

It was one of his favourite parts of the day, those few hours where he just let himself go and felt the wind and the sun on his skin. Heard the chirping of the birds and the rustling of the leaves. Felt the spirit energy all around him. It changed slightly when it neared different things.

He directed his perception inwards right away today, in an action that had become greatly familiar in the past nearly two years.

It was all as usual, it looked like a bottomless pit, until it wasn't. As he sent spirit energy into it, he watched as it suddenly stopped accepting more.

It started to glow golden, the glow spread to his whole body, he felt comfortable, until his spiritual energy started to riot.

'Ohh shit shit shit shit' he was not panicking.

'Great going Chen Jin, just send energy to this mysterious point, its a great idea. Everything will be just fine' he thought sarcastically to himself.

Just as suddenly as it started, it stopped. He felt different. He wasn't meditating any longer, but he could feel something in his body that wasn't there before, he had this weird feeling, that if he just desired, it would come out.

'... Is that what I think it is' he thought as he got up. He was a bit baffled now, he didn't think this should be possible.

He willed it out.

'... Holy shit...'

'I awakened my martial soul' he felt amazing, he was already stronger that a normal adult, but now he felt stronger still, all his senses had been strengthened too, from the rustling of the leaves to the grass beneath his feet, they were all clearer.

Even the spiritual energy felt clearer. He could always somewhat feel things a bit around him, but it was more like knowing that its there, now it's as if it had been all dialed up to eleven, he was not meditating but he could feel the energy, even the grass rustling behind him, its as if he could see it.

'... My martial spirit is a body spirit'.

Hello there!

Originally I thought about making him have twin spirits, even had a few nice ideas about how to make it believable that he could use both at the same time, but it felt unnecessary, maybe next time.

The chapter was originally meat to be bigger, at least until he read the letter from his mother, but this felt like a good point to stop at.

I would love it if you would leave your opinions in the comments.

Cheers, and good morning! (At least to me it's morning)
