13 First Spirit Ability, End Of Year Tournament

==============

At first, I was so busy with college stuff that I thought I would have to take a hiatus. Fortunately, that shouldn't be the case, but my upload rate will definitely take a hit across the series of stories I am writing on this site.

[ Heaven Dou Empire, Blue Tyrant Academy ]

Mengbao calmly assessed his martial spirit. Although it was only a Sparkling Koi Dragonling, he subconsciously knew that it had two innate abilities. He mentally went down the list.

'Yin-Yang Cycle - Allows the user to elude Heaven-ordained death one time by sacrificing their original Yang form for their Yin form, letting Yang be taken away by the Heaven and Earth.'

'Dragonification - As user grows stronger, they are able to transform parts of their body into the same part of their dragon martial spirit.'

(A/N: Do not confuse these with spirit ring abilities as these are something that the martial spirit is born with. At this time, he only has one spirit ring ability which is demonstrated later.)

This was strange as a person would usually only inherit one of their parents' innate ability, however, he assumed it was because his was a mix between theirs.

However, his opponent, Daxuan, gave him to time to think further on this as he quickly struck towards Mengbao, with the swift and malicious intent of a snake appearing behind him.

Mengbao was able to easily predict this and dodge to the side. This was a result of his father's training in the last year or so. He was even able to deflect Daxuan's strike, however he was pushed back quite far because of it.

'Augh.' Looking again at the smirking boy, Mengbao knew that he was around three or four levels higher than himself. This meant that there was a great disparity in their strengths. Mengbao was not worried however, as he learned from his Aunty Liu that control systems like himself had an advantage over attack systems like his opponent. This is because, when used properly, control systems were able to turn the tides of battle even in an unfavorable situation.

And he was proven correct as during the kid's next strike, Mengbao used his first spirit ability called Enrapture. As a bright gleam erupted from the space between Mengbao's brows, Daxuan was unable to turn his eyes away, charmed by the light as a feeling of joy disrupted his mental state. Although he recovered quickly, that moment of time alone was enough for Mengbao to land a decisive strike against a defenseless opponent.

Upon landing, Daxuan immediately coughed blood. The man went over to make sure that Daxuan's injuries weren't lethal and after confirming so, began to shout at Mengbao. "Such a ferocious attack against a fellow student! Alright, I'll remember you little beast, do not think that you'll get away without weeks in bed."

At that time, the cold voice of a woman sounded, saying, "Weeks? How about I send you off to bed for a lifetime, Yu Wei?"

Indeed, Liu Erlong had returned and placed her hand on Wei's shoulder, full of battle intent. Yu Wei knew that although both were in the same clan, his strength was incomparable to Erlong's as he was only a branch member. He came to Blue Tyrant Academy in order to pursue Erlong's beauty and status, elevating himself. Both for interests and his own ability, Yu Wei chose to back off. As he guided his best student, Daxuan, out the door, the child himself looked wrathfully at Mengbao. The latter simply did not care.

Turning to his aunt, he asked her about them. Sighing, Erlong told him, "That man is just a spineless coward of my clan. As for the child, he is one of the better students in the school and was the champion of last year's School tournament. I do not like him, however, as he's been shown to be quite vengeful and aggressive. After this, you should also be on his list." Despite saying something so alarming, Erlong only had a peaceful smile as she looked at him.

Seeing Mengbao's wronged look, she laughed and explained. "Although he is the champion, he is from a common family and cannot be compared to your talent. This is why even after almost four years at the academy, he is only Rank 15. Not to mention that you already beat him now. He can never catch up."

Mengbao shook his head as he did not let arrogance blind him. "He is Rank 15 without talent, showing how hard-working he is. I am a fisherman's son who cannot afford to slack off either."

While Mengbao was determinedly looking off in the direction Daxuan left, Erlong was wryly smiling as she lamented internally. 'Lingbao, I know you do not want your son to get embroiled in your conflicts with the clan, but must you really go as far to tell him that you are a simple fisherman?'

Naturally, Mengbao was unaware of his aunt's thought as he went off to his new room to cultivate. Before he left, Erlong informed him that he will be attending school although it was only a few days away from the end of the year. At that time, he should participate in the school's tournament and become champion, as it would give him higher status and more resources.

When he closed the door to his room behind him, a worried voice rang out in his mind. It was Nuwang. With her cute, squeaking voice she whined, "That was dangerous, Mengbao! Even if you could take on his student, what would have happened if the teacher moved? You would have been greatly wounded if not killed in a single strike."

Mengbao shook his head. "The teacher would not kill me in the academy grounds. Besides, my father said that a man must not live to be stepped on by others but to remain true to himself."

Nawang let out a slight humph which echoed in Mengbao's mind. Hearing this, Mengbao was able to relax as he knew that this was her way of saying that she would forgive him.

Climbing onto his bed, he began cultivating with Nuwang helping guide spiritual energy towards him.
