Chapter 23

Chapter 23 — Clan Gathering (1)

"Yu Liena, did you truly wanted to reject Ning Chen's feeling for you?" Yu Qian asked while sipping a tea.

Yu Liena was currently in front of Yu Qian, eating her own food. She lowered her head and answered.

"That was for the best. Ning Chen belongs to a different world. I would only stand on his way."

Yu Qian became silent for a moment. He couldn't find anything wrong with Yu Liena's answer.

He didn't know whether it was right or wrong for her to think like that, but he know this was not he wanted to hear.

"That's not what I want to hear, you know that. I want to understand what you truly feel about him from the bottom of your heart."

Yu Liena flinched and grew hesitant, but she sighed in the end.

If she didn't answered this question truthfully, her father would get annoying later on.

"Fine, I admit. I've indeed started to like him, but it's just impossible for me to become part of his life..." Yu Liena said while smiling bitterly.

Yu Qian frowned deeply, feeling that Yu Liena smiling bitterly was unusual.

"Why do you think it's impossible?"

"It just impossible and it's not due to me not being able to cultivate. Let's just stop talking about this," Yu Liena said tiredly.

Yu Qian let out a sigh and stopped prying further.

For some reason, Yu Liena looked very fragile right now. She seemed to be close to her breaking point.

Yu Qian couldn't understand why she was being like this.

The two of them became silent after a while, but it soon went away.

"Father, I have something to tell you," Yu Liena abruptly said.

"What do you want to tell me?" Yu Qian asked bemused.

"I want to leave our house for a while and I promise to come back quickly," Yu Liena said quiet nervously and serious.

Yu Qian was startled hearing her words and was considering to refuse, but seeing her serious and determined face, he swallowed those words back.

"Okay, you can leave, but be careful and return safely," He said while smiling.

Yu Liena was relieved to hear that and nodded her head. She started to prepare her belongings and then stood outside their house.

She stared far-away into the horizon. The abyss.

Yu Liena tightly gripped the black wooden sword she was holding and took a deep breath.

It was once again the time—

—to meet her detestable fate.

Ning Fengzhi sat calmly on the chair inside his office decorated with many luxurious ornaments and plants.

A bunch of stacked documents were place above the large table in front of him.

He turned his head to looked outside the window, glancing serenely at the bright blue sky.

A light smile unknowingly made its way toward his face. He remembered the weather was also like this when Ning Chen left the clan to train.

The only one who knew about Ning Chen's destination were him and the two protectors.

Ning Fengzhi started to wonder about Ning Chen's well-being over these past years and sincerely hoped he was faring well.

When Ning Chen had left the clan, Ning Fengzhi had commanded Grandpa Bone to stealthily follow Ning Chen without revealing himself to the latter.

It was a precaution if something happened on Ning Chen's journey, but thankfully nothing bad had occurred.

It was because although the world was filled with dangers everywhere, there were laws and order present.

If only chaos were everywhere, the entire human race would have already collapse after all.

After Ning Chen had successfully reached his destination, Grandpa Bone stopped protecting over him and quickly reported everything what happened toward Ning Fengzhi.

Ning Fengzhi had also told the outside world that Ning Chen was training in deep seclusion away from all affairs.

Ning Chen would only leave the seclusion once their clan gathering was held to prove his strength as well as his mutated spirit sword.

The minority of the elders of the main branch still considered Ning Chen's spirit being inferior after all.

The clan gathering would happen in the next few days and it was where the members of the clan will compete with each other.

This was also the day that Ning Fengzhi told Ning Chen to return.

As Ning Fengzhi was in deep thoughts, someone loudly knocked on the door.

"You may enter," He said shortly.

The one who came inside was Grandpa Bone who looked very out of breath, but extremely happy.

"Ning Fengzhi! Your eldest son, Ning Chen has returned!" He said quickly.

Upon hearing that news, Ning Fengzhi jolted out from his office and impatiently made his way outside.

His thoughts were simple.

It was to quickly see Ning Chen who he haven't seen for many years.

Ning Fengzhi soon got outside and saw someone standing infront of him.

It was young boy—a muscular youth wearing a common clothes that still couldn't hide his handsome and refined appearance.

The most eye-catching thing about the youth was his muscular and perfectly sculpted body, his unique long glossy pink hair, and clear amethyst eyes.

Despite him looking vastly different compared to before, it was without a doubt his son, Ning Chen!

"Ning Chen...!" Ning Fengzhi ran toward Ning Chen with joyful smile.

Ning Chen's eyes moistened as he saw his father's face which seemed to not experienced a single change even after many years had passed.

O, how long had he dreamed to see his precious family once again!

"Father, it's been a long time!" Ning Chen said happily.

Ning Fengzhi embraced Ning Chen tightly and noticed that his son had already reached his chest.

In the past, Ning Chen could barely reach his waist.

"I've missed you very much..." Ning Chen sobbed quietly, however, a wide smile was plastered on his face.

Currently, he seemed to once again become a naive, pure child.

"Me too, my son," Ning Fengzhi softly patted Ning Chen's head.

The two embraced for a while, and only let go off each other after Grandpa Bone arrived.

Ning Chen started to look around, but he couldn't see his sister, mother, and Grandpa Sword around.

"Where are they?' He asked toward Ning Fengzhi and Grandpa Bone.

"Your little sister is currently away along with your Uncle Sword. As for your mother, she..." Ning Fengzhi suddenly stopped.

His face became slightly pale as if he remembered something very bad.

Ning Chen felt a bad feeling seeing Ning Fengzhi's pale-stricken face.

Had something bad happened to his mother?

Ning Chen's heart skipped a beat at those thoughts. He became anxious.

...

Ning Chen and Ning Fengzhi went toward their house.

He started to look around the house and saw nothing significant had changed.

Their house felt familiar yet distant for him.

After reaching the living room, Ning Chen realized his worries were needless.

His mother was currently standing in front of him and appeared to be very healthy and more beautiful.

"Ning Chen, my child!" Ning Xiao'er quickly approached Ning Chen.

Tears were streaming down her cheeks as she hugged Ning Chen.

Ning Xiao'er had missed Ning Chen severely and seeing him now caused all of her bottled emotions to explode out.

She started to touch Ning Chen's face and was glad he looked very well.

"You've grown very big! Have you also been eating properly and took care of yourself carefully?" Ning Xiao'er started to question lovingly.

Ning Chen repeatedly nodded while trying his best to hold back his tears.

He was finally back!

He was with his parents again and it was just a shame that Ning Rongrong was currently away.

"I've missed you two dearly...." Ning Chen quietly mumbled, wiping the tears forming around his eyes.

His mother and father smiled seeing him like this.

Ning Chen calmed himself and then asked his father about him looking very strange when talking about his mother.

He then heard a that something bad happened to his mother two years ago and almost costed her life.

This was something Ning Fengzhi couldn't forget and also traumatized him.

Fortunately, a nine-colored light fell down from the heaven, miraculously saving Ning Xiao'er from the death's grasp.

The thing that caught Ning Fengzhi's eyes was the mysterious light that caused countless cracks to form on the sky, seemingly due to the very fabric of space and time breaking.

Ning Chen was horrified hearing that and was glad nothing happened toward his mother.

He then felt grateful and curious about the mysterious light and felt a higher being was behind this.

However, he decided to stop prying further since he thought he would just attract disaster.

Ning Chen instead chose to have a very long conversation with his parents.

He talked about what happened to him during these past years.

As a result, the once quiet house became quite noisy as it was filled with laugh.

After it turned noon, Ning Rongrong finally returned back home with Grandpa Sword.

They both came back after successfully acquiring Ning Rongrong's new spirit ring.
