6 Level Up!

Elyn pounced forward, her hands balled up into small fists.

"Ha!"

The badger rolled out of the way and the punch connected with the ground instead.

BOOM!

A few cracks spread out from where the girl hit the ground and the Class 10 beast looked at her with a little more wariness than it had first done.

"HISS!"

The white-haired girl narrowed her eyes as the beast provoked her, and then she jumped forward again, a seemingly stupid decision from an outsider's perspective.

Emery himself couldn't help but cringe when he noticed what she did.

But contrary to all thought, the girl spread out her hand at the last moment and grabbed onto the badger's tail. The creature tried to hit her from the position, but it was clearly too heavy to move its own body in such a way.

It was all done as she twisted its neck and ended the beast's life once and for all.

Emery sighed. One down, nine more of the creatures to go.

"Good job, Elyn." He smiled and gave the white-haired girl a thumbs up.

The question of how they would transport it remained, though. He could try going back and forth to transport each beast individually but it would take a terrible amount of time to achieve.

'Dammit!' he cursed 'If I resort to that method I won't be able to complete the mission and Elyn will be exhausted by then!'

Time was ticking.

And that was when something clicked. With this method, they wouldn't need to worry about venturing too far into the forest that the journey back would take too long. And this way he would finally be able to help.

"Elyn, here's the plan…"

A while later, Emery was finally done explaining his idea. Oddly enough, it took a long time for Emery to convince the girl

He stood a few metres away from the lake at the centre of the forest, peering over his back from time to time to make sure Elyn was still there.

The makeshift bandages around his wounds were untied and the rotten smell seeped out ever so slightly. He also did his best to look as harmless as possible.

That particular aspect wasn't hard at all. It wasn't like he was harmful in the first place.

"Come on… any second now"

There was nothing much to this plan. Put into simple terms, Emery was bait.

And the first catch had arrived.

It was a brown-furred wolf with piercing green eyes. The large wolf wasn't as large as any of the other beasts they'd made contact with so far. It was on the smaller side and had a lithe figure that almost completely blended in with the shadows of the tree.

Emery almost cried out, but he didn't run immediately. He still needed many more beasts to approach before the rest of the plan came to fruition.

The beast itself also didn't attack immediately, staring at the seemingly stupid human in front of it.

It didn't feel threatened by Emery's presence, so it just sat down, looking at Emery with a mocking expression.

The chef gritted his teeth at that non-response. Was he that weak?

'Whatever,' he comforted himself, 'Elyn will kill it soon enough, anyway.'

'Observe!'

[Ding!]

[Name: Shadow Stalker Wolf]

[Race: Beast]

[Threat rank: Class 10 Threat]

[Attributes:

STR- Class Ten

AGI- Class Nine

INT- Class Nine

DEF- Class Ten

DEX- Class Ten]

[Skills: Basic Shadow Cloak, Fury strike, Lacerate, Shadow Bite]

[Remark: A class 10 beast on the verge of advancing to Class Nine]

He paused. None of the previous beasts had gotten remarks, meaning that this wolf was a bit special. If the intelligence was any indication, then this beast was smarter than the average Class Ten.

Intelligence wasn't just raw human wisdom, otherwise Elyn's own would be far higher no matter what happened, but it showed that the wolf had a degree of sentience to it more than a simple beast should have.

While he was occupied with those thoughts, two more beasts showed up but neither of them looked half as strong as the wolf.

That was all he needed for now.

Emery twisted as quickly as he could and took to his heels. Wind caressed the scars on his arms and legs causing them to flame up painfully, but he had to ignore it.

ARFF!

Barks and howls called out from behind him and loud thuds hit the ground as the three beasts chased behind him.

No matter how fast they were. He had the advantage of a Headstart.

The chef kept running and soon enough he could see the exit of the forest even more clearly now. Elyn's figure looked anxiously, waiting to pounce.

Just a bit more…

A bit more…

"Elyn now!"

Then she moved. A massive burst of air passed by him, and the girl was no longer in front.

Tiny whines emerged from behind and only when they ceased did Emery turn back to face the girl.

"See," he said, grinning, "I told you it'd work!"

Two corpses hung from her half-clasped hands and when he looked down for the last one…

"Fuck."

He turned back to the exit of the forest and the brown wolf he thought he'd avoided so far was in front of them.

It looked on with a much-too-human mocking expression on its face.

Emery stepped back slowly, keeping his eyes on the wolf until he reached Elyn.

"Be careful, it's strong."

"Ok," the girl nodded.

And then the wolf, which had been conservative up till then, rushed forward and swiped down.

Elyn responded just in time, reaching forward and grabbing the wolf by the torso. She easily won the strength contest and smashed it down by the back.
