Chapter 1

Scarlett Gracie Brown, the girl who was currently in a room which was completely white. Wired in different parts of her hands to the machines that monitored her. Never had she predicted in a million years that she would meet with an accident. She was out like a light as soon as her head hit the steering wheel in front of her.

Outside the hospital room stood two people with greying hair, her parents were worried for her, even though they were assured by the doctor that she was unconscious due to shock and nothing else was wrong with her. But parents were still parents and here they were worrying about their oldest daughter who was separated from them by a wooden door.

Marie and Trevor, Scarlett's younger siblings were at school, attending their classes not knowing what had happened to their older sister.

She woke up to the beeping sound which was foreign to her. Where was she? Her fingers tested out holding a fist, she failed a few times, but she didn't give up and curled her fingers until she was able to make a solid fist. A smile of satisfaction crossed her face.

Just when she was about to sit up straight from her temporary and uncomfortable bed a woman wearing a white skirt and blouse with something resembling a crown with a red cross on it walked into the room. "Ms. Scarlett Gracie Brown, how are you feeling now? Do you feel a headache from the bruise you received in the accident? " She asked. Of course, she had been in an accident, she thought. She simply shook her head which made the nurse nod curtly with a well-practiced smile.

" Well, in that case, your parents would like to meet you, should I let them in? " She asked to which Scarlett responded positively.

As soon as the petite woman left, her parents came into the room with tears of joy and smiles. She was moved by their affection. ' Live in the moment.' That was her motto, so she basked in the warmth that radiated from her parents' hug, their affection was so touching since she wasn't even that hurt from the accident.

She was pleasantly surprised that she couldn't remember her accident at all. She noticed the same nurse enter long after her parents had left to get the discharge procedures done. " Why can't I remember the accident? Is that normal? In fact, I couldn't even remember anything as soon as I woke up." She asked the petite nurse. " Oh, that's alright, you were unconscious because of the shock. It's normal to have a temporary memory shut down. It'll be alright once you let your mind relax. And please don't stress over it." She replied with a genuine smile, it was warmer than her initial smile. Scarlett nodded and sat on the bed while she rocked back and forth, looking at her own dishevelled reflection on the small strip glass on the door.

" Honey, let's get you home." Her mother said while she encased Scarlett's hand in her's, just like a mother would to her toddler. A smile broke through Scarlett's tired face and so did a rumbling erupt from her starving stomach. She was sure that her stomach would have given her an earful if it had a mouth.

She heard a low chuckle which belonged to her father, obviously after he heard the sound her poor stomach was making to gain someone's attention. His eyes crinkled at the corners as his chuckles filled the room. " I'll be back with your favourite beagles and coffee. Sounds good? " He asked her, but he didn't need an answer as he saw her eyes light up at the mention of beagles. Like father, like daughter, he thought while he walked down to the coffee shop right across the street.

He was more of a practical person than his wife. She was someone who gave in to her emotions, rather than thinking what was actually necessary. As soon as they heard of Scarlett's accident, she was crying her eyes out instead of going to the hospital to see if she was fine.

He returned with a brown bag in hand which had the beagles and held the coffee in his other hand.

As soon as she fed her attention seeking tummy, they were on their way back home. Scarlett noticed that her mother was still holding her hand and she understood how shook her mother must have been after hearing the news of her accident. She took her mother's hand in hers and caressed it. " Mom, I'm fine. Don't worry, please," She said and leaned her head on her mother's shoulder. No words were spoken, but she knew that her mother was also feeling better.

They reached their house and helped Scarlett to her room which was apparently on the second floor. She looked around and was content with the way her room looked. She dived straight into her bed which happened to bounce as it took her weight.

She kept bouncing up and down on her bed, the thought of sleep never occurring once in her trampoline trance.

She noticed that her bedside table had the first drawer open. She pounced out of the bed and went to the bedside table, which was a little too far away from her bed. She opened the drawer wide open to find various files scattered and out of place. She decided to sort them since she had nothing entertaining to do. She dumped every last thing on the floor and went through them. She found a lot of pictures from her childhood, school field trips, and family picnics. She stared at the picture of her siblings and thought how familiar the three of them looked.

She noticed that she even had her report cards from first grade. She felt a weird feeling overwhelming her. So she decided to arrange the mess she made and go to bed, maybe it was going to be alright after she woke up from a good long nap just like the nurse told her.

Her day ended as her eyes closed, pushing her into peaceful darkness.
