Act 1: Part 1

Stonewall, Georgia: A small town buried deep within the woods of the American state; hidden in plain sight. With a population of 859, it's a place of beauty and wonder, for those lucky enough to stumble upon it. A place of life. A place where all manner of creatures thrives: deer, otters, beavers, alligators, snakes, frogs, and birds. A place that is both home and far-away from all of the troubles that plague the surface of the Earth. It's a quiet but secret place, a sacred place. It's so secret that the nearest town, Maple-Peaches , Georgia, is 15 miles away. It's a fairly conservative town that mainly promotes two things: Football and the church. But this town is not as peaceful as it seems. Oh I haven't introduced myself, have I?

My name is Meredith Cordelle. Although, I prefer to go by MC. I'm a student at Bayboro's Catholic School, but I simply call it Bayboro High. They named it after Confederate general John A. Bayboro. My passions are the simple things in life like good friends and theater. I've always loved acting, and currently I'm the lead of our school's play. I… I did some things I'm ashamed of to get that role, but that doesn't matter now.

"Hey! Stop right there!"

I turn around to see a familiar face waving me down. It's my childhood best friend Huey Hoffman. But if he's going to make a scene, I might as well just continue walking.

"Dumbass…" He says almost as if he were disappointed in himself. Huey sprints over to me. He's never been the athletic type, so he's out of breath. He takes a minute to say anything. Which is weird, because his lanky figure should mean his body should be better for that kind of thing.

"You… You really are a sprint-walker." Huey sounds like absolute death; it is funny though. Huey and I have an interesting relationship. He's more Motley Crue, while I'm more Huey Presley. He likes pasta, I like steak. He watches horror movies. I watch The 2011 Muppets frequently. Huey has orange hair and freckles, while I have brown hair and no freckles. He has to wear a white collared shirt, a green tie, khaki pants, and brown closed top shoes, while I have to wear a green bowtie, a light brown skirt, green stockings, and brown closed top shoes.

"Have you seen that new movie that came out recently? I heard that it's gotten great reviews for being out for one day." Huey asks, seemingly using the question as a distraction from his pain.

"No, what's it about though?"

"Oh my god, MC! You really gotta get outta' your house more often." Huey jokes.

"I've been with the play. I haven't had time to really do much."

"Oh. Well, the movie makes it 10 times better than the play, although I do acknowledge the play. But yeah, anyways, the movie is really good, I'll bring you to watch it with me and I don't mind if I watch it again." Huey is the world's biggest horror movie buff I know. The man could name every single slasher movie from the 80's without thinking about it. Huey is also a massive critic of those sorts of films, so if he recommends this movie; it's probably pretty good.

"Look, I'll try some time this week. It's the only time I have off. But I also have Band to worry about. And not only that, but I have that big science test I have to worry about, so I'll have to head over to the bookstore soon." I was just starting a band, so blowing it off didn't seem like a good idea.

"Oh! Ok, you know what, that's all with you, I won't pressure you into watching it because it is just a movie, nothing big… It's pretty big, but still. I'll respect your time." Huey smiles faintly, he seems better now.

"Thanks."

"Well, break your legs man!" Huey confidently says. Should I correct him? Yeah.

"Hey, um, Huey, It's actually 'break a leg.'" I clarify.

" Oh… What'd I say?" He seems embarrassed, but not too much.

"Break your legs."

"Hmm… And what's the correct saying again?"

""Break a leg."

"'Break a leg?' Yeah, I think I could remember that." Huey can be forgetful sometimes, however he has the confidence to make it seem like he remembers. This is not the first time he's mistaken the saying "break a leg," though. One time he told me to "break your face." Which is fine and all, but I sort of like my face how it is. I do feel guilty about not hanging out with him, but at the same time theater and Band are two things I'm very passionate about. I try to text him whenever I can, but school is a hectic hellhole which leads to an even larger, and even worse pit of shit time known as adulthood. Huey is one of the few friends I have in real life. He's just a really good guy. But yeah, I don't hang out with him as much as I used to. I don't know what it is, it just happens. We walk to school together.
