Chapter 44

??He??s so beautiful,?? whispered Landon.

There was a shadow in the door way of the bedroom. Landon looked over and saw Karen, who was standing there with her mouth hanging open.

??Things went a little fast,?? said Trey.

??Oh Jesus???? said Karen. ??Nina, are you okay? And the baby???

??I think so,?? said Nina.

The thin sound of a siren approached.

??Can you go down and let the EMT??s in when they get here??? asked Trey. ??Landon told them on the phone to prepare for a newborn.??

??Yeah, um, sure. Just wow.?? Karen turned and headed for the stairs.

??You really think he??s okay??? asked Nina.

??Yes?? said Trey. ??He??s nice and pink and breathing just fine. He??s alert. He??s full term. I know pretty much everybody does the hospital birth thing these days, but truly, realistically, women have been giving birth at home for centuries. Getting checked out at the hospital won??t hurt, but everything seems just fine.??
