Special Episode - The Queen's Head

In the 1800's London, on the corner, near an alleyway, the Tardis sits alone.

The black-pane windows have dirt over them.

The blue-wooden box has cracks and is filthy.

The Doctor then walks up to the Tardis and he stares at it.

The Doctor then sighs.

Vastra then appears behind The Doctor and she says "maybe it's time" The Doctor turns around and he shakes his head "not yet" Vastra nods "you're falling, as you did before" The Doctor slightly smiles at her "I'm not gone, not yet...but I need time" Vastra nods at him "time, being something that lasts forever, in your case" The Doctor looks at Vastra "I'm going to be fine".

Vastra continues to stare at The Doctor.

Suddenly, screaming is heard.

The Doctor and Vastra turn around in shock.

The Doctor then says "go get the others!".

The Doctor runs over towards the pub and he looks up, it's called 'The Queen's Head'.

The Doctor runs up to the door.

Inside, The Doctor sees a group of people surrounding something.

The Doctor then says "what's happening?".

A woman then says "he was murdered, sir!".

The Doctor looks at the woman and says "who was?" the woman then looks at him "oh, Doctor! I'm glad it's you!" The Doctor nods "what's happened, Emma?" Emma says "these people, well...it looked like people in black clothes, they came in, they shot 'im, they shot John!".

The Doctor steps forward and looks down at a body on the floor and he says "damn!".

Vastra then walks in with Strax and Jenny.

Strax then shouts "EVERYONE EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY! THERE IS A BOMB!".

Jenny then says "oh shut up Strax, everyone calm down, there's no bomb".

Strax then says "you asked me to get everyone to leave-".

Vastra then says "so you ask them to leave Strax, not scare them".

Emma stares at Vastra, Jenny, and Strax.

Emma looks at The Doctor "your gang are 'ere"

The Doctor looks at Emma "mind evacuating the pub?" Emma nods at him "yeah, sure".

Vastra walls over to The Doctor as Emma walks off.

Vastra then says "she's interested in you, you know? Leave it too long and you never know what could happen, maybe a missed opportunity?" The Doctor looks at Vastra "Emma is just a friend like you are to me, not everyone has to run away with me" Vastra smiles at The Doctor.

The Doctor then says "anyway, drop that smile...someone's been killed" Vastra then says "and how?" The Doctor shakes his head "Emma said some people came in wearing black clothes, could be anyone" Vastra then nods "or could be the people we've been tracking for a while?" The Doctor shakes his head "those people are aliens, I'm sure these people would notice if they saw some people who weren't human" Vastra says "you said they wore black clothes? Maybe to hide?" The Doctor looks at Vastra and he says "get Jenny and Strax to check the area for anyone" Vastra nods at him "alright, I'll be back in a moment".

Vastra walks over to Jenny and Strax and she says "you two, check around the alleyways and streets around this area, see if you can find anything unusual, or anyone...our friends might be involved with this" Jenny nods "what are you gonna do?" Vastra turns around and says "I'm going to help-".

Vastra looks around for The Doctor, but then she says "he's gone, with Emma".

Vastra then says "new plan, we are going to check the area together".

The Doctor and Emma walk together down a street, The Doctor pulls his Sonic Screwdriver out and he starts to scan around the area.

Emma looks at the sonic and she says "what the bleeding 'ell is that?" The Doctor looks at her and he says "oh, it's a...sorta like a microscope-" Emma stares at him "a microscope? I've not seen anything like that before" The Doctor nods at her "it's new" Emma nods at him.

The Doctor says "I'm looking for traces, something to explain what came into that pub and killed Phil" Emma looks at him "what? Don't you mean who?" The Doctor nods at her "yeah".

The Sonic Screwdriver then makes a weird sound, Emma says "well?" The Doctor smiles "it's found something, something strange, follow me" Emma nods at him "I am".

Inside a warehouse building, The Doctor and Emma walk together.

Emma then says "so, what're we doing 'ere?" The Doctor says "I'm getting some strange readings from inside here" Emma stares at him "what, from your microscope?" The Doctor says "it does more than you think it does" Emma nods at him "like what?" The Doctor looks at her.

Suddenly, a loud clang is heard from behind them.

The Doctor and Emma turn around, where they see a creature with a hood over its head, it has a dark face with green glowing eyes.

The Doctor stares in shock "oh".

Emma says "what on god's Earth is that?".

The Doctor then says "that's impossible".

The creature snarls at them.

Walking together, Vastra walks with Jenny and Strax.

Strax walks up ahead, walking in front of them.

Jenny then says "ma'am, I know The Doctor's our friend and all, but how long is he staying for? If he stays too long, it's gonna be like last time, innit?" Vastra says "don't worry my dear, I've spoken to him, it won't be like last time".

Strax then stops.

Vastra looks ahead and she says "Strax?".

Strax says "it appears I've found our enemy".

Vastra steps ahead and she sees three of the creatures with a hood over their heads, they have dark faces with green glowing eyes.

Inside the warehouse, The Doctor watches as the creature pulls its hood down revealing a black feathered face, with a long nose, almost like a beak.

Emma stares in shock "what the f-".

The Doctor says "you can't be, you were just a legend".

The creature then says "all legends are real" The Doctor says "you killed that man? Why?" the creature says "joy".

Emma taps The Doctor and she says "'ello? What is it?".

The Doctor then says "it's called a Craven, they're creature's from the Jalaha Dimension, a lost dimension in space, a species mentioned throughout time, they're deadly and their murderers, they pick a victim, and it's their job to take that thing out, kill it...destroy it" Emma nods "well, they sound lovely" The Doctor looks at her "they're not".

The Craven then says "and our next victim has been selected".

Vastra stands looking at The Craven's, Vastra says "what do you want? Why did you kill that man?".

The Craven's all tilt their heads, looking at Vastra.

Jenny says "ma'am, I don't think they're listening" Vastra nods "thank you, Jenny".

The Doctor looks at The Craven "what do you mean, selected?" The Craven then looks at Emma.

Emma says "me?" The Craven then leans back and it starts to screech.

Emma covers her ears, The Doctor shakes his head "whilst I'm around, no harm will come to her".

The Craven then says "we're coming for her, tonight".

Emma looks at The Doctor in shock.

Later on, The Doctor and Emma walk into The Queen's Head together.

Sat inside is Vastra, Jenny, and Strax.

Vastra stands up and she says "we thought you might come back here" The Doctor then nods at her "I'm glad you are, I need your help" Vastra nods "we're here like always" The Doctor then says "Jenny, get suited up, there's gonna be a fight, you too Strax" Strax then smiles "I will fight, for the blood of SONTAR!" Emma stares at Strax, Strax then smiles at Emma "hello again boy".

As Jenny and Strax walkout, The Doctor looks at Vastra, Vastra says "we made contact with our old friend, the ones we've been looking for-" The Doctor nods "so did we, they're a race called The Craven, very deadly, the thing is, they've claimed Emma as their next victim, they'll stop at nothing to try and kill her, we have to protect her" Vastra nods at him "we will, you know we can" The Doctor nods at Vastra "thank you" Vastra smiles at The Doctor "anything".

The moon shines down onto The Queen's Head.

Inside, Emma sits next to the window looking outside.

Jenny walks over wearing her gear.

Jenny smiles at Emma "hey" Emma nods at her "hi" Jenny says "we'll keep you safe" Emma looks at her "why? You don't even know me" Jenny smirks "you're a friend of The Doctor's, and a friend of his is a friend of ours" Emma looks over at The Doctor, then back at Jenny and she says "who even is he? Like really" Jenny smiles "when this is all over, ask him yourself" Emma smiles at Jenny "I will" Jenny nods at her, until suddenly, they both turn their heads, looking outside where they then see five Craven's staring at them through the window.

Emma screams and she walks backward and away from the window.

Jenny pulls a sword out and she says "Emma, stay behind me".

The Doctor then stands with Emma, The Doctor looks at Vastra "you don't kill any of them, you just keep them back" Vastra nods "we'll do our best, but if you want her safe, I can't promise anything" The Doctor stares at Vastra "you don't kill any of them" Vastra nods at The Doctor.

Suddenly, the door to The Queen's Head breaks open.

The wind blows into the pub.

Emma stares in shock and she says "I'm gonna die, aren't I?" The Doctor shakes his head.

Vastra pulls her sword out as Strax then points his gun.

The Craven's walk into the pub, they hold laser handguns.

A Craven then says "give us the girl, she is the last" The Doctor says "what do you mean the last?" a Craven says "the last of our hunt, then we return home" The Doctor shakes his head "you're not getting her, we'll fight if we have too".

The Craven's then aim their guns at everyone.

Emma then holds The Doctor's hand.

Vastra says "Doctor, just tell us when" Jenny nods "I'm ready" Strax nods "me too sir".

The Doctor looks around in shock "I-".

Emma then lets go of The Doctor's hand and she steps forwards and to the Craven's.

The Doctor says "EMMA!".

Emma turns around and she looks at The Doctor "you are one of the rarest men I have ever met, a man who would do anything to keep me safe, a man who hates violence, you are amazing, you are pure...but there's so much heartbreak in your eyes, Doctor...I'm doing this for you, I feel like this is the right thing to do" The Doctor shakes his head "please" Emma smiles at The Doctor "it's okay, I want to do this".

Emma turns around, facing The Craven's, Emma says "do it".

All of the Craven's aim their laser handguns.

Emma closes her eyes.

The Doctor stares in shock.

Vastra, Jenny, and Strax all look away.

A tear rolls down Emma's face.

The Craven's then pull their triggers.

Vastra turns around and she looks down at Emma, who lays on the floor.

The Doctor shouts "NO!".

The Doctor runs towards The Craven's, but they press a button on their wrists, causing them to teleport.

The Doctor then drops to his knees and he looks down at Emma.

Vastra looks at Jenny.

Jenny then looks at Strax.

Strax looks around at them and he sighs.

Vastra turns around, but she sees Emma on the floor on her own.

Vastra then looks around and sees The Doctor is gone.

Outside the Tardis, The Doctor puts his hand onto the door handle.

Vastra, Jenny, and Strax walk over to The Doctor.

Vastra says "and where are you going?" The Doctor stares at her "there's a whole universe out there, some places even I haven't discovered, I'm gonna find them, the places I've never been" Vastra smiles at him "alone?" The Doctor nods at her "that's probably best" Vastra shakes her head "really? Cause sometimes you have to be reigned in, you know Emma wasn't your fault, sometimes things happen" The Doctor stares at her "yeah, I know...don't wait up for me, I could be a while" Vastra nods at him.

Jenny smiles at The Doctor "bye Doctor".

Strax nods at The Doctor "bye sir".

The Doctor then smiles "bye".

The Doctor then turns around and opens the Tardis door, and he sighs.

Next Time - The Alien Who Never Was - Back on Earth, Detective Kathy Yates investigates the disappearance of The Doctor, leading her to a UNIT base where she is reunited with an old friend. The Doctor is unsure why Kate Stewart doesn't remember who he is.
