The Voice Speaks Again

Derek could see the hand approach his face from a mile away, he ducked and the hand sailed over his head. Derek retaliated with a punch of his own to Lancers' face

"Oww" Lancer cried in pain, the punch had broken his nose.

"Run" Derek said to Chuck as they immediately took to their heels. Jerry and the other student rushed to where Lancer squatted on the floor, holding his bloodied nose in place.

"I'm going to kill you two" he shouted as Derek and Chuck disappeared around the corner.

"You broke his damn nose" Chuck said in fear and excitement. He couldn't believe what had just happened.

"What happens if the headmaster gets wind of this?" Derek asked. His main problem was being reported to the school. He hadn't been at the school long and he had already gotten into a fight.

"Headmaster? No fucking way. There is no way this is getting out" Chuck replied

"Why" Derek was now curious

"After getting humiliated in the field today, do you expect Lancer to go spreading news that he was beaten by the new student? By a nobody? No offense" Chuck added

It made sense to Derek now, Lancer was not going to dent his reputation further by claiming he was beaten by the new student, after all he was even a level one.

Even if they decided to punish him because of Lancer's influence, no one was going to believe him.

Derek and Chuck entered their room panting. Chuck stole a quick look at Derek and shook his head. He had a psychopath for a roommate.

No one had the guts to punch Lancer, butt to his face. That was something. Chuck wanted to chatter off as usual but he was out of breath from all the running.

Chuck couldn't lie, he was quite impressed but he couldn't dare to do such a thing. His parents were not very rich, he just happened to be attending this school because his dad worked as a chauffeur and secretary for one of those very affluent families.

He tried his best to stay out of trouble, he couldn't say he had any personal goals of his. He just wanted a quiet life without bringing any problem to his parents who were doing their best to make sure he could stay enrolled at the school.

Derek was surprisingly calm after the quick sprint they just had. Before Chuck had the opportunity to catch his breath and say something, Derek was already in the shower.

It was getting dark already, so Derek climbed to the roof to cool off and listen to some music.

He had a little pod with white ear piece attached to it on a string. He didn't know how it had gotten into his belongings, but he had found it there.

It belonged to his sister, he could recall her wearing it a lot. She really loved whatever it was she was listening to.

Derek tightened the pod in his fist and shut his eyes tight, the memories came flooding back in a torrent.

He was about to get teary when he suddenly felt a cool breeze on the nape of his neck.

It made the hairs on his body stand on an end, he was quickly on his feet and he turned around and he could see the silhouette of a female figure just come through the hole which was used to access the roof.

"Arya?" He called

"Who's there" she asked into the darkness. The dim light of the surrounding didn't do much to illuminate the figure on the roof.

"It's me, Derek" he replied

"Derek?" Arya said. 'What is he doing here she mused to herself. He waved her over and she came to join him where he sat, over the edge.

She preferred to be alone, but not wanting to be rude since they have worked together as a group, she decided to indulge him a little.

"You come here too?" Derek asked her

Arya was tempted to smack Derek across the head. This was her spot, if anything she was supposed to be the one asking him that question

'How did he even manage to find out about this place' was the question in her mind. The initial entrance to the roof was sealed.

Ever since then, no one went to the roof again, then she discovered another hidden path to get to the roof. Since then, it had been her private hiding spot.

She came here to vent, or sulk, or brood. Depending on her mood. But she wasn't going to ask him that, she wasn't much of a talker.

"Yeah, I do" was all she managed.

"Helps the thinking process, right?" Derek said, without any enthusiasm in his voice. Arya stared at him, she agreed but she didn't speak. She only wondered what secrets exactly he could be hiding that made him pretend to be weaker in public.

"What's that?" She asked when she saw the pod on his hands.

"Oh, this? It's a music player. It used to belong to my sister"

"Used to?" Arya said under her breath.

"Yes" he answered. Arya looked up immediately, she hadn't expected him to hear that, she was just muttering to herself

"Yes. Used to" he repeated. "She's gone now" he said in a somber voice

"Oh. Sorry" Arya was now regretting speaking. She should have kept shut, but she felt a little sad for him.

"It's okay. What about you?" Derek probed "Got any sisters?"

Beep beep beep

The sound went off on their watches as it flashed a red light for each beep. The watch only signaled people that were outside the dorm areas whenever it was ten minutes to curfew.

"I guess I have to get going" Arya said, standing up. She was most grateful to the watch, she was not ready to talk about her family and she did not want to sound rude. Not like she cared.

"I'll just catch a few more seconds" Derek told her, not wanting to be the reason why she was kept past curfew.

Derek held the pod in his fist and looked into the darkness of the night. The clouds in the sky shielded the little light from the crescent moon.

He turned around and headed back to the dorm. He took two steps then he heard the voice in his head.

//The full moon is in two weeks//

//Be prepared for restraint or face the consequences//

The message repeated itself once more, then the night was silent again
