The Dome

The dome was a befitting name for the room Derek had just walked into, it was large and spacious and shaped like a typical dome.

Derek didn't take a step further after he stepped into the dome. He stood at the entrance admiring the dome.

The shelves were well spaced and fewer compared to the main library, there were a few sofas for maximum relaxation while reading.

The chairs were completely different from those in the library.

Two people were seated on the sofas in the dome. Derek slowly walked to the center of the dome. Though the students had heard him enter, their eyes didn't leave their books for a moment. They already knew that anyone who entered the dome was authorized.

When he got to the center of the dome, there was a space between the shelves on the left, Derek walked through the path and looked at the books on the shelf. They looked very new, like they were hardly used.

The books looked so clean he was scared to touch it, in order not to get them dirty. He liked the arrangements of the books on the shelf.

Unlike the ones in the main library which were just labelled as either history, adventure, novels, arithmetic. These ones had more specific classification.

A book on history was arranged in subsections. It had medieval history, war, supernatural and so on. The arrangement was very detailed. Derek knew that he had more chances of finding what he was looking for here.

As he walked through the rows of shelves, he suddenly heard a beckoning sound. He turned around and saw the second year he had just seen earlier on the other end of the shelf.

"So, you managed to get clearance?" he asked.

Derek shrugged in reply

"That was very quick, even the second years don't even get clearance this quick" the student continued.

"I-" Derek started but was cut short by the student

"Or do you know any teacher who is that close" he smiled in askance

Derek simply nodded; he was about to say something really stupid but he appreciated whoever this stranger was internally for bringing up a close relationship.

"So, what is it you are looking for exactly?"

Derek had usually heard stories of how second years were brutal, this guy in his front was being so helpful it made Derek wonder if the rumors were true.

"I'm looking for a book about the moon and what the different shapes of the moon represents."

"Oh. The moon" the student drew out the words in a long drawl. "What's your name by the way?"

"I'm Derek"

"You can call me Harry. Derek"

"Harry" Derek muttered

"So, Derek. If you're looking for books about the moon, you should be able to find that in the history section. Check supernatural history, I think a book there mentions the moon, you could also check the fiction section"

"Okay. Thanks"

"Sure" Harry replied and turned away. He waited to hear Derek's receding footsteps before turning to stare at his retreating form.

Derek first got to the fiction section of the library, there were a lot of books under fiction. Derek was not exactly interested in fiction right now even though he appreciated he help.

He retraced his footsteps back to the first shelf he passed while coming in. There it was, right in the middle of the Supernatural subsection.

The significance of the moon.

Derek picked the book and went to the open area, one of the two people had left the reading area, only one remained now and Harry. They both sat on different sofas and read the books they had picked in silence.

Derek looked towards the double doors and back to the sofas, the sofas looked very inviting. Derek thought a little before deciding to go sit on the sofas.

After all the people in the dome thought he had been cleared and the people outside didn't know he was inside the dome, so there shouldn't be any problem.

Derek began to flip through the book. The first chapter was titled, how the moon came to be. Derek skimmed through the chapter and on to the next.

It was mostly bogus details of things Derek wasn't sure he believed. His hands froze on the book when he got to chapter seven.

It was titled 'The catastrophe brought by the full moon'

The voice had warned or actually threatened about the full moon and this book was also talking about a catastrophe on a full moon.

There was no way it was a coincidence.

Derek took looked at the time on the wall clock, he still had ten minutes till the end of recess. He took his time to read the chapter.

'On the full moon came a horde of demons, they were as dark as night with eyes that shone in the dark. Into flesh they tore, spilling warm blood all over the dry floor.'

The first paragraph made Derek shudder, 'was this book trying to say that a horde of demons will attack the school on the full moon? Why am I the only one who got this message?' Derek stared blankly at the book.

He steadied his hands and read the rest of the chapter. He had to know what happened, after three minutes when he had finished the chapter the only reasonable piece of information he got was that demons had invaded the town on a full moon and killed dozens

And it happened more than once but only on a full moon. The rest of the chapter was full of vague information.

Derek took the book back to the shelf where he had gotten it from, he wasn't satisfied with the answer he'd gotten. Who was he going to tell that demons were going to invade the school and who was even going to believe him.

He needed more information, but Harry had only mentioned History and fiction and history was definitely more reliable than fiction. Derek was frustrated but he decided to try fiction.

Even if there was a chance that he could get a little bit of information from the fiction section then it was worth a shot.

As Derek touched the book from the fiction section that titled. The creatures of the moon, the bell went off for end of recess.
