Expedition

When Derek took the stance, his form was the worst form one could recreate, before he could get an attack in, he was smacked across the face

He lost his balance and he was thrown to the floor like a rag doll, the three students gathered around him and began to kick him on the floor.

Derek rolled and curled himself into a ball, the hits on his body were intense. The boys were not holding back, they beat him mercilessly.

The use of abilities in the school were against the rules, so the students hadn't found out yet that Derek didn't have one, he was just being victimized because he was the unfortunate new student.

Derek thought that if the use of abilities were not against the rules he might be dead

'Crack' a loud sound suddenly split the air. Derek could have sworn it was his ribs breaking. But then the beating had stopped

Derek slowly opened his eyes, one of the students was lying on the floor unconscious. There was a baton lying on the floor next to him

Derek wondered if one of them had attacked each other, But his thought was cut short when he saw a girl walking towards them.

She was slightly taller than Derek but not as tall as his assailants, her long black hair tied in a single ponytail which fell to her back was her most remarkable feature since it was already dark

The only lights that dimly lit up the area was from a small bulb on one of the blocks from a distance away

Derek could barely see her face, the only side the light shone upon. But from the little he could see he could tell that she was pretty.

Her body features were generous the right curves in the right places on her slim body, it made her seem just perfect.

His assailants stared at her as she strode towards them, Derek didn't know if it was because of her beauty or because they cared less for their fallen comrade.

When she got to the baton on the floor, she bent down and picked it up in her left hand. Then she beckoned to them with her right hand.

"Wait. It was this bitch who threw this stuff" one of them exclaimed

The girl nodded her head a few times. She had been returning to her dorm too when she heard the whistle, at first she was too uninterested to bother herself

But after a series of tug of war with her gut, she followed the sound of the whistle and hid nearby to observe what was going on

When she saw Derek save the student being bullied, she had thought he was strong enough to take on the bullies, she was about to leave with the satisfaction that the bullies got what they deserved.

But then she saw Derek take a good beating

'What a dumb person' she face-palmed herself 'why try to save someone when you can't even save yourself'

Then she held her baton like a spear and threw it with force at the head of the assailant backing her, the baton caught his square on the head and sent him toppling to the floor

She had their attention now

"Let's get her" the other one replied. It was like they had just come to their senses, they both lunged at her, planning to give her more than just a beating.

The girl whipped out her baton and it expanded in length and waited for them to rush in, just as the first student came within range, she landed an uppercut with her baton

She wanted to deal with each of them alone, while the other was out of the way his subordinate brought his fist forward at her face, but the girl was faster

She blocked his fist with her baton and instantly reduced the length, she struck the student in his gut

He reeled back in pain but that only made him angrier

'I won't usually bother with things like this, but why is this school so useless'. That was all she could think of. These students still have the guts to fight even though they were in the wrong

She thought she should incapacitate them, at least she had already done that to the first guy. It would only be fair to do it to the other two

She went for an attack on his head with the baton but he blocked, she immediately kicked him in the stomach sending him back a little

By now the other student had started to come to, 'I need to end this now' she thought

She threw her baton which made another huge crack sound, sending him back to unconsciousness and she rushed her opponent

She tackled him to the floor and pinned his hand behind his back, breaking two of his fingers. The boy screamed out loud, then she chopped him behind his neck and he fell unconscious too

Derek had been watching this with his mouth wide open, a single girl had been able to take on three boys and won without getting hit

It seemed more like a dream than reality

She walked towards Derek and then walked past him to pick her baton. Derek's forgot how to speak in that instant, he remembered he was supposed to thank her but the words were not forthcoming

When she had gotten her baton she turned to walk away, then she paused at Derek's side and pointed to her wrist.

Derek began to scrutinize her wrist for a sign or mark that she was indicating to him. She couldn't help but face palm herself and walk away

'If he wanted to spend the night outside with them then fine'

Derek slowly stood up after she had left and walked around the boys, they were knocked out cold.

He soon remembered why he had come out, he checked the bag of stuff he had bought from the provision store

Thankfully, most of the stuff was still intact though a few had been damaged when he was roughed up

Then he looked at his watch, it was five minutes to curfew. That was what she was trying to tell him, Derek felt so dumb

He would have to run to get to the dorm in time, then he looked at the students on the floor one last time before sprinting off

The bell went off, while some people went back to the dorms, a few others stayed behind to chat in excitement.

The first-year expedition was finally tomorrow, they were supposed to have gone the previous week but there was some issue about three students breaking the curfew.

Every single first year was excited for the expedition, they would finally get the chance to leave the school and battle beasts.

The school will let them battle Level five, the lowest level of beasts. It was like an assessment to see how they have leveled up since they joined the school.

Derek was contemplating on what to take along and what not to take. Mostly, you only needed a weapon for people that made use of one

But Derek didn't have any and he was still getting used to his chain whip. He was not at all good with any weapon. But he was going to take it either way

He had heard about how there could be bullying during the expedition since there were lesser teachers there to keep an eye on the students

He had to protect himself because if the others found out that he didn't have an ability there will be a problem.

Right now, he had only told Chuck and he intended to keep it that way until he had a way to protect himself

Derek was beginning to see why he was supposed to learn how to fight, all the while his father tried to teach him, he had been uninterested

But he already hated the real world, the separation based on hierarchy, the bullying, the helplessness, he hated every single thing about it

He had to get stronger to change the system, only the strong had a say and he was weak. There was nothing a nobody like him was going to say that was going to change things.

The first-year students were lined up in the field, their homeroom teachers Elton and Jenny were assigned to lead the expedition along with Zayn the weapons master

There were thirty students in each class, so in total there were sixty students. Each teacher would have to watch twenty students each

With a swift method of elimination ten students from Class A and ten students from Class B were assigned to Zayn

After a quick review of the trackers to make sure all sixty students were present, they soon stood in front of a portal.

Most of the students were beaming with smiles and chattering in small voices, they were about to make the most of this expedition

"Move out" Elton called out and then the students began to enter the portal in rows of twos.
