Coincidence

"I guess I'm okay" Derek shrugged even though he had no idea what had just happened. Arya still good there gaping at Derek like an alien that had just arrived from outer space.

"You can stop staring now"

Arya snapped out of her trance, she now looked at Derek differently from before.

She thought he was hiding something but this was far beyond her expectation.

"You don't have to look at me like that, I'm just as confused as you are. I really do not know what happened just now."

"That doesn't even make sense" she countered

"I know, but it's the truth. But please can you keep this a secret?"

"I don't really care about all these, but you ask me to keep this a secret and you claim not to know what happened"

"It's the truth, whether you believe t or not. If you're not satisfied, you can come help me figure out what really happened" Derek offered.

"I'll pass" Arya assumed she had already seen enough, as long as whatever he was hiding did not interfere in her life or had no direct effect on her personal life.

Though deep down she wanted to know the mystery behind what she had just witnessed.

Derek scooped his book off the ground, by the time he stood back up, Arya was already leaving the area.

He raised his hand to call out to her, but after a second thought, he let it go. She had come to help him to the clinic and apparently, he didn't need the help anymore.

He looked at the book on his hand, part of the book was soiled from the dirt and wet on the floor. He just hoped he wasn't supposed return it. He wiped the book against his now dirty pants and made his way to his dorm room.

Chuck was already around. He had his ears covered with a headset and was playing a game from the school pad which he possessed.

The sound from the game was so loud that Derek could hear it through the headset from the moment he entered the room, Chuck didn't notice Derek's presence until a few moments later.

"What the..." Chuck shouted in concern when he saw Derek's clothes. They were ripped, with blood stains all over.

"Did a wild beast attack you?" Chuck asked, putting his headset and pad away and moving over to inspect Derek closely.

"What" Chuck was as confused as ever. He could clearly see the clothes torn in different places and the blood but Derek didn't have a single scratch on him.

Suddenly it hit him. The expression on his face changed from shock to pure dread.

"Did you beat someone to death" Chuck was terrified.

"No, I did not beat anyone to death" Derek answered.

Chuck could feel his breathing even out once more. But come to think about it, Derek was very weak and a Rank F.

How could he even beat anyone, the person would have to be weaker and Chuck didn't think there was anyone like that.

He face palmed himself, he clearly wasn't thinking rationally.

Derek threw the book on his bed and made for the bathroom before Chuck would drown him in more questions.

He took off his uniform and threw them into the trash. Luckily for him, the school provided them with five pairs of shirt and shorts.

After washing the blood and dirt off his body, Derek put on his night clothing and flopped on the bed.

Chuck had gone back to his game so he now had the silence of the room all to himself except the sound that managed to escape the headset on Chuck's ears.

Derek opened the book, it was soiled at the edges but the words on them were still visible.

'This is stupid' he thought to himself. This was only fiction. But where else could he get the required answers.

Derek planned to read through the whole book but he was suddenly tired and sleepy, he started to flip through the book.

The book was mostly about werewolves and their abilities. Derek could relate to most of the information in the book.

Enhanced speed, clearer sight, sense of smell. It all checked out, but Werewolves were a myth and this was fiction.

He was too heavy eyed to let something of that nature rile him up.

"What do you think Bayland is going look like?" Chuck asked.

"Bayland? What's that?" Derek asked. They were both getting ready for class. Derek had fallen asleep night before with the book in his hands.

"Bayland? The school hosting the competition"

"Oh. That's what it's called?"

It was Chuck's turn now to look at Derek strangely. For someone with such quick reflexes, his brain wasn't quite quick.

"I heard Elton talk about it but I didn't get the full details"

"Bayland is going to host the four regions in a competition of different games among each other."

"Four regions?"

"Yes, the schools in the four regions, there is one school in each region. Ours is in the east, Bayland in the south. There are two others in the north and west"

"Oh, and when is the competition?"

"In two weeks"

"Two weeks?" Derek's voice was filled with dread.

"Yes, two weeks. Any problem with that?" Chuck asked.

Derek couldn't believe it. That meant that they would be in the south region in two weeks and the full moon was also in two weeks.

There couldn't be any worse timing than this. A number of weird thoughts were running through Derek's mind.

What if the impending disaster as to happen where all the schools were gathered. If it was the same as the book said, that meant doom for a lot of students.

There were a lot of what ifs running through his mind. He tried his best to push the thoughts out of his mind but the voice felt so real and the words repeated in his head.

But why did the tournament have to fall under the same time as the full moon.

This was surely not a coincidence.

Was it?
